A lighthearted joke or anecdote can make your letter feel more engaging while also showcasing your personality. Parents appreciate teachers who can maintain a sense of humor amidst the daily challenges of their profession.

7. Comprehensibility:

The letter should be easy to read and understand by utilizing short paragraphs and bullet points when needed. This ensures that busy parents can quickly grasp the essential information.

8. Encouraging Open Communication:

Invite parents to reach out to you with any questions or concerns they might have throughout the school year. Providing email addresses and phone numbers not only encourages open communication but also reassures parents that you are approachable and receptive to their input.

9. Addressing Parental Involvement:

Describe how parents can play an active role in their child’s education, such as through volunteering at school events or participating in parent-teacher meetings. Emphasizing the importance of collaboration and teamwork is crucial for a successful educational experience.

1o. Closing Remarks:

End your letter on a positive note, reiterating your excitement and commitment to working together for a successful school year.

Welcome Speech in English: Best Samples, Examples & Tips

microphone for speech

Why are Welcome Speeches Necessary?

Most of the gatherings and ceremonies are held with a purpose. They are either planned events or spontaneous gatherings. In both cases, it is important to know how to organize such events. We must prepare ourselves to conduct the event properly.

Let us imagine that you are hosting a gathering. You have prepared everything, including food, drinks, decorations, etc., and even set up the stage. However, you forgot one thing – a welcome speech. What happens next? Do you start talking immediately without waiting for everyone to arrive? Of course not!

The same goes for a meeting. How many times did you attend meetings where people didn’t introduce themselves? Or worse, they talked about themselves too much during the meeting. In addition, some speakers talk directly to the audience without introducing themselves. This makes it difficult for the attendees to comprehend the event’s process and connect with its objectives.

So why is a welcome speech in English needed? To begin with, it is necessary to give a brief overview of the topic. Secondly, it helps to provide information about the organization and its history. Thirdly, it allows us to highlight our achievements. And finally, it creates a good impression on guests. Otherwise, they might ask questions like “Where is this event going?”.

Significance of welcome speech

The significance of the welcome speech won’t be apparent without understanding what makes up the history of an event. An event can be defined as a sequence of activities carried out over a period of time. These activities are usually organized into stages, each with a specific purpose. For example, an event may start with opening remarks, followed by a keynote address, and finally concluded with closing remarks. Each stage of an event has a different set of responsibilities.

In the case of a welcoming ceremony, the welcome speech is considered to be one of the most important parts of the whole gathering. In fact, it is the most crucial aspect of the entire event. This is because the welcome speech serves several purposes.

First, it introduces the guests to the host. Second, it provides information regarding the upcoming program. Third, it creates a positive impression among the attendees. Fourth, it helps in creating a sense of unity among the participants. Fifth, it helps in establishing good relations between the hosts and the guests. And finally, it ensures that the guest feels comfortable during the occasion.

Objectives of a Welcome Speech in English

The objective of a welcome speech in English is to introduce yourself and the rest of the attendees at the event. This is done through a short introduction about who you are, what you do, why you’re attending, etc. The following are the objectives of a welcome speech:

  • Introduce yourself
  • Provide Information regarding the event
  • Create a positive impression among attendees
  • Establish good relations between hosts and guests
  • Ensure guests feel comfortable during the event
  • Help build unity among participants
  • Explain the purpose of the meeting/event
  • Set up the agenda for the meeting/event
  • Make introductions
  • Give background info about the organization
  • Highlight achievements (if any)

Welcome Speech Samples in the Education Field

There is a number of school gatherings that require welcome speeches, be it an official school gathering or an informal event. In this segment, we’ve sorted samples according to the typical events organized in schools. Take note of each paragraph and determine its purpose. You’ll be able to create a workable framework or basis for your current and future speech requirements.

Welcome Address in English For Students

It’s natural for attendees of any event to expect an introductory speech, which sets the tone for the occasion. A host can easily command attention with an effective welcome. Even the longest speeches have the capacity to hold an audience’s interest when delivered in a catchy and impressive manner.

A short opening speech for a commencement ceremony

To everyone present, good morning. A very warm welcome to our respected faculty, our remarkable parents, and our dear students. Special recognition is due for our Chief Guest (name of chief guest). It’s a true honor to have such a successful alumnus (or state the chief guest’s job title). We express our biggest gratitude for accepting our invitation to deliver today’s keynote speech.

I’m standing here as a lucky witness to our dear students’ academic journey. Our school is very proud of everything you have accomplished and your small but not minor contributions to society. You’ve brought prestige to our name and deserve the title of one of our school’s most successful and dedicated batch of students.

With your teachers’ guidance and parents’ support, you’ve reached remarkable heights. I’d like to take this time to extend my gratitude to our faculty and our parents, for understanding, encouraging, and nurturing our students.

Graduates, you are about to start another chapter in your life. An exciting yet scary period. From now on, you will face more challenges, but I am confident that you’re adequately equipped to face any tribulation that comes your way. Remember that with conviction and self-belief, no mountain is too high to climb. The laurels you’ve brought back to our school are only the beginning. I am genuinely excited to see the astonishing feats that your futures hold.

A long opening speech for a commencement ceremony

Good morning everyone! I would like to extend a very warm welcome to our esteemed faculty, astounding parents, and our dear students. I’m honored to open our commencement ceremony and stand here where many of our accomplished alumni who I look up to once stood.

I extend a particularly warm welcome to our Chief Guest (name of chief guest), who as one of our outstanding alumni, has really set the standard for exemplary accomplishments.

(enumerate key achievements of chief guest)

Her/his professional and philanthropic endeavors attest to their upbringing and the values she/he lives by. We want to thank you for responding positively to our invitation to be the keynote speaker on today’s auspicious occasion.

As another academic year reaches its end, I’m sure that our dear students are anxious and also filled with hope and excitement. This is their final school event in our renowned school/college/university (name of school). But hopefully, it won’t be their last awarding ceremony.

We are extremely fortunate to have such a talented and passionate group of graduates who have earned laurels in honor of our school, adding to its distinction and great reputation. The amazing encouragement and unconditional support of our parents throughout the school year have been extraordinary. They have stood by their children in every school event. Our teachers and staff are truly thankful for the trust you’ve given us. Your children’s journey wouldn’t have been a huge success without your guidance and nurture.

It’s been a remarkable experience to witness the passion and commitment our students have exhibited in all their undertakings. I am filled with certitude that you will achieve whatever goal you’ve set your mind on. Adulthood is going to be jammed with more trials you’ve never imagined before. I am kidding. Maybe. Joking aside, you will win as long as you work hard and believe in yourself.

Remember that you are valuable and take every challenge you face as an opportunity to prove your worth and get better. Also, surround yourselves with people who are good for your well-being and treat them the way you’d like to be treated.

Maintain your sense of humor because not much else will get you through when the going gets rough. Life can be very special and you can truly make a mark, which doesn’t always need to have global proportions. Be accountable for your mistakes and learn from them. Keep nurturing your passions and remain as driven, bright, and astonishing as you are today. You are all wonderful and I can’t wait to see your future accomplishments, because they will be great.

Thank you and do us proud!

Welcome Speech for Teachers Day

Good morning! We welcome everyone today who is here to celebrate this annual event for their beloved teachers. We don’t always get to thank our teachers, but on this day, we pay tribute to our second parents.

They have provided guidance and given their light to educate and lead us to a journey of wonder, discovery, and knowledge. For their efforts, they deserve the greatest of honors and our utmost respect.

Our steadfast yet affectionate teachers should be our role models. They inspire us daily and motivate us to reach our greatest potential. They impart wisdom so that we don’t only excel academically, but as good people and responsible members of our society.

Welcome Speech for Children’s Day

Good morning everybody!

Today we extend our appreciation and the warmest embrace to our beloved students to celebrate Children’s Day!

It’s been a blessing to be a part of nurturing children’s sense of wonder and imagination. These are qualities we often lose as we grow up, and it’s awesome to witness them happen every day.

Children’s innocence and love are incomparable and difficult to resist. Their smile is the closest thing to heaven that we can glimpse in the world.

School is your children’s second home, and we teachers are their second parents. We thank you for the opportunity to take care of and guide your little angels.

Join us to celebrate our students and make this day as eventful and fun as it can be!

It’s of utmost pleasure to welcome everyone, especially all my freshers to today’s festivities. I extend my deepest gratitude to all my teachers and everyone who helped make this event a reality. Look at this place, it’s amazing!

University or school life isn’t just about getting a higher education – brace yourself for the adventure of a lifetime! This is the period to create good memories and meet people who can be a permanent part of your academic and later professional lives. May you develop the relationships and acquire the necessary skills to succeed in life.

But for now, let’s leave our worries and cares out in the hall. Let’s celebrate your wise decision to matriculate in our institution. Our college has prepared special events and an entertainment program highlighting some of our talented students.

The next few hours will be memorable and exciting! Thank you for listening and let’s get on with it!

Have a good time!

Welcome Speech Samples for Business

Much like in academic settings, there are more formal events that happen in professional contexts. Some may need a welcome address to introduce special guests or welcome the attendees of a conference. Some are informal events that welcome those who are invited to special occasions at the office and the people they’re honoring. Note down the key phrases and objectives of the samples below and use the same structure in your own welcome or introduction speech in English.

Sample of Welcome Speech for a Goodbye Get-together

Good evening everyone!

Welcome to my farewell party. I know, I know. You all said you’re sorry to see me go, but that you all would need food and entertainment first to deal with your sadness. So here we are. I shall deliver.

As the Semisonic song goes “Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.” And so it is with great gratitude that the VP in Japan decided to retire early, so the end of his role can mark the beginning of mine. To Toni Takitani, thanks for deciding you’ve had enough!

Kidding aside, I’d like to thank my friends who made this very corporate event a huge success. Look at this, my goodness!

Most importantly, I want to impart my profound gratitude to my boss (name of the boss). Without you, this party won’t have a band. I couldn’t ask for a better mentor. Or I could, but none of them would have changed my life as positively as you have. It saddens me to leave you the most, but it comforts me that you were my biggest source of encouragement to go. Or it may have been your plan all along. Genius!

So to everyone who came, thank you. I’ll have time to thank you properly later, but for now, let’s eat!

Welcome Speech Sample for a Business Conference

Good morning to everyone who came out to join us here today. My name is Julius Kaizer and I’ll be hosting today’s events.

Before anything else, I’d like to take this moment to thank Merville & Posque Inc., their CEO Mr. Hyori Asano and his team for putting this event together in record time. It won’t be possible without your tireless dedication and contributions. I also want to thank everyone who came, our remarkable associates from Osaka, Chiang Rai, and Quezon, our wonderful clients who have stuck with us through thick and thin, and our amazing consultants in various fields of energy conservation. Your interest and patronage are very much appreciated.

A great welcome to all our extraordinary employees and staff members, some of whom have worked and grown along our company’s 23-year history. A big welcome, too, to our interns who have recently joined and brightened our corporate offices.

Today marks the 15th annual MPBC and it’s an honor to be a host in this glorious congress. I myself will be staying for the conference’s entirety to learn what I can about sustainable energy systems and their various implications and impact on the future of our planet.

The activities today will include an overview of all the forums, seminars, and exhibits around the MPBC complex. Second, we will have the inauguration of the new bio-dome on the grounds where we will also honor this year’s retirees. The afternoon’s seminars will kick off after lunch, and I encourage you to attend the discussions and learn about our future plans and projects. Finally, I’d like to encourage everyone to help yourselves to the snack stations in the hallway. Refreshments and sandwiches are on us for the duration of the conference.

I won’t keep you long and let’s begin the day. I wish all of you a valuable and wonderful time! Thank you.

I hope you’ll learn a lot in the next few hours and I promise to try to make our activities as engaging and hands-on as possible. Good luck and thanks again for participating in our workshop.

Welcome Speech Samples for Family Functions

Huge family events often have speeches: weddings, birthdays, farewell parties, funerals, anniversaries, and so on. Some of these events normally have hosts and esteemed guests. Here are some tips and samples to inspire you.

Tips on Welcoming the Chief Guest?

If you’re searching for tips on how to make a welcome speech for guest, here are some things you can do:

  • When drafting your speech, do the research.
  • Highlight the key qualities that are worth mentioning in an opening welcome speech for event.
  • Take note of the welcome address speech sample in this article and create a framework from them.
  • Look up welcome speech quotes and choose the best one to use somewhere in your speech.
  • Greet the chief guest at the event personally and introduce yourself if you don’t know each other.
  • Extend your hard for a handshake and smile to express that they are honored and welcome to the event.
  • Smile and suggest they are being welcomed.
  • Address them formally with the usual Miss or Mr.
  • Escort the chief guest before you assume host duties.

Welcoming the Chief Guest with a Short Speech

It’s a great honor to welcome our Chief guest and tonight’s keynote speaker. I was worried at first about how to introduce (title and name of Chief guest) because any introduction would pale in comparison to the reality and immensity of her/his accomplishments.

(Enumerate the main accomplishments of the chief guest).

She/he is the ultimate inspiration for young professionals everywhere who want to succeed in the field of international trade. Here to inspire us with her career journey and all the experiences she accumulated along the day, join me in giving a round of applause to (title and name of chief guest).

Welcoming the Chief Guest (Longer Version of the Speech)

Introducing our next attendee is a great pleasure of mine. When she/he accepted our invitation to be tonight’s Chief guest and keynote speaker, I almost jumped for joy. Then I realized I would naturally receive the task of introducing her/him. At first, this gave me great anxiety. How would I be able to pull it off and deliver an introduction that would give her background justice? Then I thought, no introduction would ever compare, so it was foolish to aim for success when failure is guaranteed. So I decided to just do it. Our chief guest has accomplished the following, to name a few:

As I looked at her/his professional and personal successes, I realized here is a woman/man who was faced many times with the certainty of failure but had given her circumstances a grad twist by attaining success against all odds. Then I thought, perhaps I should aim for success in this speech, after all.

She/he is an inspiration to many, not only for all the fields of expertise she has earned and the extreme success that went with the process, but she/he has also set the benchmark for philanthropy and good deeds. She/he has done this quietly, too, and she/he might strangle me for revealing it to the public. I didn’t even know half of the wonderful things she/he has done for our community before my research.

Without further ado, and here to inspire us with her wisdom and grand skill, join me in welcoming our Chief guest (title and name of chief guest).

Welcome Speech for Parents

Hi everyone!

As host and brother of the groom, I’d like to take this time to introduce the parents of the bride. Without them, my brother wouldn’t be the lucky and happy man he is today. More than that, I have witnessed how they accepted my brother and treated him as a son long before the engagement. I often tag along on family trips and have spent hours of wonderful conversations with them. Apart from my own parents, they are two of the most affectionate and hospitable people I’ve ever met. If I could meet a woman whose parents are just like them, I’d consider myself half as lucky as my brother.

Let’s give a round of applause for (names of the bride’s parents). Thank you for embracing my brother into the fold.

Welcome Speech Samples for National Holidays

Below is a sample of a welcome speech typically delivered during Annual Day. Substitute the appropriate details to match your information and use the framework in other speeches reserved for national holidays.

Welcome Speech for Annual Day

I am overjoyed to have this chance to welcome all of you to our elite institution’s 25th Annual Day. Today’s children are the hope of the next generation. All these graduates we see today, receiving awards for their achievements will go on to lead successful lives. Let them live up to the expectations set before them.

I am very happy to be a member of such an elite school where we learned from such great professors who teach us beyond the boundaries of the ordinary classroom. They’re also the minds and hands behind such a big event every year. I’d like to use this chance to organize such a wonderful event this year. It’s also a great pleasure of mine to introduce our Chief Guest.

Welcome speeches are necessary at events. They usually set the tone or expectations of the people who attended or participated in the occasion. There are many ways in going about delivering a welcome address speech. Review the samples in this article and do your due diligence to craft an outline, framework, or skeleton from the contents that you can use in welcome speeches of your own.

Frequently Asked Questions

A good welcome speech has the following qualities: * It is sincere. * It can hold the attention of the audience. * The ideas don’t ramble. * Welcome address quotes are used. One for a short welcome speech, and 2 for a longer one. Never 3, unless the speaker is trying to be funny. * The contents are relevant to the event. * It has an impressive anecdote. * The length doesn’t exceed 5 minutes.

The last segment of this article contains tips on welcoming chief guests, esteemed guests, or guests of honor. The tips contained here can be divided into things to consider while drafting the welcome speech, and things to do at the event itself when meeting the chief guest.

A simple thank you would suffice. Make sure you reiterate your gratitude. Some welcome speeches can end with a line that welcomes the guest of honor.

Depending on the context, a welcome speech doesn’t always need to be impressive. In some situations, a straightforward introduction is all you need. However, in some circumstances like commencement ceremonies, farewell parties, dinners, and some others, the audience is prepared to listen to long speeches. In this case, the speech needs to catch the attention of the attendees and maintain their interest. An impressive welcome speech often has an emotional element. Not just parroting big words to describe a person’s achievements or flatter them. Try to use humor if you’re funny by nature or if you can deliver the punchline well. Use popular quotes in your speech. Tell anecdotes relevant to the attendees. Or reveal an epiphany. These are how you should draft a welcome speech set to impress.

Make sure that it is relevant to the content of your welcome speech or the point you’re making. You can use phrases such as the following: * According to… * As the old saying goes… * There’s a quote that has always stuck with me… * Events like this always remind me of one of my favorite quotes… Try to find quotes that are unique and not cliche. You can find some in the lyrics of contemporary music, or lines and dialogues from books and movies, and so on.

Welcome Speech

The School year at [insert name of school] is about to commence and I would like to take the opportunity to welcome you all.

Education can be likened to a great big canvas and this year we would like our students to throw as much paint as they can on the canvas of their education.   I appeal to the students, the parents and the teachers to value and uphold the importance of intrinsic motivation.

This year I have no doubt that our students will throw themselves into their education, they will make the most of the canvas of opportunity that they are offered and they will paint the goals that they aspire to. I have no doubt that if they remain motivated in the classroom, then they will achieve their goals.  Their education is sound, creative and innovative and [insert name of school] , together with the parents and the students themselves, will  help  to make this a reality.

Help! Four letters that can mean so much. Four letters that can be seen as a dynamic, planned action - or as a plea!

This year, the Parents Association will continue to tirelessly take action to help raise funds for [insert name of school]. The Board of Governors will continue to take action to help strategically plan towards ensuring an educationally sound and innovative future for our School.

The teachers at [insert name of school] will take action and help the students to achieve academic, sporting, cultural and life-long learning. May  I take this opportunity to thank the teachers for their continued professionalism, excellence and dedication. It is your teacher motivation and motivation in the classroom that will help to create a year that is bright with embraced opportunities.

However, even more importantly, the students themselves will have to take action to further their education. Our young ladies and gentlemen too are beginning to realize that they cannot merely sit back and expect the greater School community to do everything for them - they are realizing the importance of self-motivation and are prepared to help themselves.

It is an appeal that we make to our young charges today. Help yourselves ! Make the most of the fantastic educational opportunities that you have. Throw as much paint as you can on to the canvas of your education this year. If you can do that, then one day, you will be in a position to respond to the pleas of others who may need your help!

Help! Four letters that mean so much. You must help yourselves so that ultimately you can help others. Each young lady and gentleman here today, in their own way, will need to help. You will need to help your family. You will need to help the environment. You will need to make sense of the world when sense and reason go missing. You will need to help solve problems through innovation and invention. And, you will need to help turn indifference into motivated, helpful action.

This is our goal as the year at [insert name of school] commences! Let's continue to work together to help each other to be our best for the world!

You will wow them with your wonderful  welcome speech  - way to go!

How To Give an Awesome Back-to-School Speech

welcome speech from teacher to parents

Communicate with parents about your parent group and the importance of involvement! Use our video, sample script, and tips to deliver a speech that will make a lasting impression.

welcome speech from teacher to parents

Speaking in public is a part of a parent group leader’s job that you can’t avoid (no matter how much you wish you could). With a little practice, some deep breathing, and a plan, you’ll be able to confidently share your group’s excitement for the school year ahead.

These tips will help you crush your back-to-school or open house speech. If you’re suffering from a touch of writer’s block, use our sample speech script and customize it with your own plans, highlights, and goals.

Tips for a Great Speech

Plan your message. Talk about how your group supports the school and avoid giving the impression that you’re only about fundraising.

Know your audience. Are familes mostly new to the school? Was everyone remote last year? Tailor your message to your community’s experiences.

Introduce yourself and your board. Besides your name and title, tell parents why you are involved (but avoid telling your life story).

Start with an icebreaker. Make it an easy question that parents can answer with a show of hands, such as “Who’s new to the school?”

Make eye contact and smile. You want to be approachable and welcoming, not standoffish.

Use note cards or slides. Don’t read from them, just use them to stay on track.

Speak at a normal pace. Practice your talk and concentrate on not rushing through the information.

Keep it short. Cover the highlights, let people know where they can find more information, and ask for volunteers.

Reassure parents. Some parents might be worried that if they volunteer, you’ll ask for too much of their time. Encourage parents to volunteer, but don’t beg.

Don’t worry if you mess up. Everyone accidentally skips a talking point, but you’re the only one who has to know.

Laugh at yourself. If you do make an obvious flub and the audience laughs, know they’re laughing with you rather than laughing at you.

Have props on hand. Create an “About Our PTO” flyer, share website and social media URLs, or pass around a volunteer sign-up sheet.

Save time for a Q&A. Repeat the question for the entire audience and then answer for everyone’s benefit.

Challenge accepted! Concrete steps for a great start to the school year

Welcome to the ABC Elementary Open House Night! I’m Mary Brown, and I’m president of the ABC Elementary PTO.

Along with the rest of our PTO board, I’d like to thank you for being here tonight. Parents are so important to a school’s success, and the PTO is a key way that parents can support our school.

Now, by “support,” I’m not just talking about fundraising. Yes, we raise money for library materials, field trips, and much more, and you’ll be hearing more from us about that as the school year gets under way. But we also organize great family events like the fall festival and reading night. And we support school staff members with our grant program and staff appreciation efforts.

Here are just a few of the highlights from last school year, made possible in part by PTO volunteers:

  • the annual 3rd grade field trip to the Museum of Science
  • snacks provided for more than 270 students during testing week
  • two book fairs, during which hundreds of books went home with students and onto the shelves of our school library
  • a family reading night with the mayor and police chief serving as celebrity readers
  • new audio equipment installed for use in school assemblies and student performances
  • new classroom rugs for all preK through 1st grade teachers
  • a reception for graduating 5th graders and their families

If you’re looking for a way to get involved at school, we can help. We have moms, dads, grandparents, and other family and community members who help out. Our volunteers are in the classroom but also at home. Any amount of time you can give is great, whether it’s two hours a year or two hours a week. Whatever works best for you, we can make it work!

Before you leave, please pick up this handout [hold up the handout or flyer] at our back-to-school table in the hallway—it has information on how you can get involved in the PTO and sign up for our email list. This way, we can keep you informed about events and volunteer opportunities. And don’t forget to “Like” us on Facebook, too.

Thanks again for being here tonight. I look forward to getting to know you this school year!

Reduce Your Anxiety

Does your stomach flip-flop or your heart race at the thought of giving a speech? People who present for a living still get nervous before giving a talk, but they’ve learned ways to reduce their anxiety—and you can, too.

Breathe. There are several relaxing breath techniques you can try, like Dr. Andrew Weil's  4-7-8 Breath pattern , that help slow heart rates and calm those jitters.

Think positively. Replace negative thoughts about your ability (“I’m a bad speaker”) with positive, supportive thinking (“I’m getting better every time I do this”).

Practice in front of a mirror or a small group of friends who will share helpful feedback. Knowing your material will help you be more conversational and less nervous.

Recruit a backup person. If you’re anxious about not knowing an answer to a question, ask another board member to be on hand to help.

Look for training. Groups like Toastmasters International exist to help people polish their speaking skills with in-person and online classes.

Find confidence. Remind yourself that you know more about your group, your topic, and your goals than anyone else in the room.

Welcome Back: A letter to parents from a teacher

Dear Parents

Welcome to the new school year! We are so excited to have your child in our school, and I am even more excited to have your child in my class. I get a chance to lead your child through a wonderful and fascinating experience over the next few months. I hope to share with your child my deep love and passion for this area with hopes that your child will learn to share in that passion.

I wanted to tell you a bit about class and school so you can best know how to help your child succeed. That success will be based on much more than the grade. My students will work really hard on everything we do. There will be bumps along the way. There will be some incredible victories and some efforts which do not go as well. Emotions will run high sometimes; there will be distractions; and there will even be some very low points. They may love and hate class all in the same sentence. And all of this is part of the learning experience. In fact, there is some research which suggests that emotions are critical to deep learning.

OK, get ready…I am about to suggest some things which may make you (and your child) a bit uncomfortable:

in order for your entire family to have the best experiences related to this class, your child must take an active part in his/her own education.

What does that mean?

Students won’t be able to stand on the sidelines and passively make their way through class. Your child will need to be on top of every project, assignment, activity, and effort that we do. There will always be something your child can be doing for this class, so if she tells you that she has nothing to do in here, she may be missing something. At those times, we do not want you to take over . We don’t want you to call the teacher to find out what the assignment is/was. We don’t want you to go on the webpage to write down all the assignments. We don’t want you to take away soccer or video games to get their attention. (In fact, there is research which suggests that games have tremendous value in our lives). We want you to support your child as she does what is necessary to figure out what is going on, what’s due, what the expectations are, and what’s on the horizon. You will not be able to solve this problem for your child. You will not be able to plan the next week for your child. But, you can certainly help them lead themselves through that, so they come to a good plan “on their own”. And of course we can help with that as well. So, stay involved but in a supportive role. If you do not, your kids are not prepared in college to take care of themselves. If you do not, your kids are not developing the skills they need to solve problems, learn to communicate, and figure out how they can best make progress. Give them some room to explore their own judgment, but knowing that they may fail.

Ask questions...not necessarily more...but better questions

Grades……ahh grades…hmmmmmm. Necessary evil, but potentially valuable if used appropriately…but they are not as accurate or thorough as you might think. Be careful dangling grade-related carrots–it might backfire for all the wrong reasons.

Grades are a dangerous slope to go down if that is all you focus on. While they are at least one way to measure performance of some aspects of a class, they are far from accurate for the total picture. As teachers, we always strive to have students fall in love with (and develop an intense curiosity about ) our subject area…whether it’s language, art, math, economics, or Computer Science. Some classes are hard for some students; other classes come easier. There are so many factors that go into how a student connects with a class: personality of the teacher, delivery of content, amount of and type of homework, style of evaluation, variation of evaluations, time of day of class, class as part of the entire schedule(i.e. a hard & time demanding class by itself might be something students can bite their teeth into, but with 2 or 3 other similar classes, students may not connect as much), number of and type of other students in the class, the life of the teacher at that time(are they going through any major issues in their own life that might detract their passion and attention) ,age of student(a certain maturity might be needed to connect with some material or delivery methods or methodologies), division principal administration turnover or policies, boyfriend and girlfriend problems, social issues, etc. Most likely the priorities you have for them are somewhat different than theirs. So, my point is that there are so many factors that go into how a class is perceived by a student. So, you as a parent simply demanding that they get an A is probably not your best way forward. What parent doesn’t want to have a student who is a life-long learner who studies because she loves it and dives into a class with all her body and mind? So, don’t interact with your student about that class in ways which go against that. He wants to tell you about why he loves that math class…and it is not because he got a 96 on the last quiz. For a student to be asked simply what grade he/she has in a class is like a tennis player going 7-6,6-7,7-6,6-7,22-20 in the finals of a tennis match and all you ask is “Did you win”. Ask better questions. And also realize that your child is not going to hit a home run on every test or project in every class. It may be that the 82 he got on the last quiz was 10 points more than he expected. She was so proud of the 89 on the group project (especially since she did all the work as part of a slacker group), so you asking why she didn’t get an A is a slap in the face. Some grades are not about measuring knowledge, so the definition of what an A is changes in each class and also depending on the type of assignment. (See my BLOG post on the meaning of GRADES )

welcome speech from teacher to parents

...great discussions can take place in surprising places....

And if there are other questions to be asked, or conversations to be had that do involve the teacher, encourage your child to initiate and have those discussions. Don’t rob your child the experience of thinking about, planning and following through on that critical part of active learning. Don’t do that FOR THEM. You might be surprised to find that your teacher has been looking forward to that interaction to happen. I am on your side; I want your child to succeed, but in ways that are in addition to the ways you might solely be focusing on. I see your child every day. I see the good days and the bad days. I see the successes and the failures. And as a professional educator, I also see different aspects of the whole child that all interact together to give us what we see. I see the light bulb turn on, and I learn the facial expressions and body mannerisms that your child uses to communicate when in a class full of peers. And those expressions, mannerism, and even way-of-talking are probably different than what you experience at home. It may be that while this minor quiz grade was not up to par, perhaps something else we’ve been working on was more successful. And it may be that even your child was not aware of that because he was only focusing on the grade as well, because that is what you were focusing on.

The expectation you have set for your child may not be the the same as the expectations they have set for themselves. That does not mean they have a lower standard, it may mean they have a different standard. Your expectations may reflect your own experience, not their experience. It is crucial that your child be given the support to develop their own expectations and motivations. And that is hard and it takes time. And I think you’ll find that if you put your faith in your child, give them your support, and spend the time developing a relationship like I’ve discussed here, that your child will far exceed your expectations—and even better than that—they will exceed the expectations they set for themselves.

Let me end with a story that brings all this together. A student of mine I’ll call “Sachiko” really wanted to be in my senior level AP class(Oh God, I cannot believe I am using an AP class as an example to prove my point. I hate AP. I am sure I’ve written a BLOG post about that) She probably did not really qualify to be in there if I based it on previous grades and performance alone, but she really wanted to challenge herself and was so genuinely interested to being part of class that it made complete sense for me to let her into the class. All semester she worked hard, turned in all projects, and was an active part of class. She consistently submitted work at a mid B grade level. The final exam in that class was a really hard exam that would push them far out of their comfort zone, but if they relied on what they knew and could do, they should be able to figure out the challenges on the exam. (Ok, for those of you who know that I have very serious opinions of EXAMS , this was before I saw the light)

Our school policy is that we are not allowed to share exam grades with students during exam week for fear that a great or poor performance on one exam will have dramatic impact on other exam performances (whether good or bad). But, I was so excited for “Sachiko”. I graded her exam and she got a B+. Wow! Nice! Awesome! I could not wait to see her face when she found that out. She thought she had done really poorly. I ran into her that afternoon in the parking lot and yelled across for her to come to my car. She ran over, with a very concerned look on her face. “Sachiko, I am so proud of you! You got a B+! Congratulations!” What happened next to this day I will never forget. She burst into tears and said, “My mother is going to kill me ‘cause I didn’t get an A.”

That experience went from incredible success to incredible failure…but I ask….whose failure was it?

I am truly looking forward to getting you know your child this semester. I look forward to the challenge of figuring out what makes him tick, and also what it will take for your child to deeply connect with my class and my subject area.

Your child’s teacher

There is a different way to look at education. As a parent, teacher, student, administrator, or policy maker, keep your eyes and ears open, but look differently and listen better.

Connections around the world

Letter to Students From Teacher (Welcome, Farewell Examples)

A generic letter that works for welcoming new elementary students into the classroom, saying goodbye to a class graduating to high school, or a message to broadcast at any time to let your students know you are rooting for them with these words of encouragement that inspire your children and students to succeed:

Dear Students, My wish for you is that you see the light in this world, in yourself, and in others. I see the light in you. Compliment others, and be proud of your own accomplishments. I am proud of you. Believe in yourself, for you are stronger than you know. I believe in you. Try hard, but know your limits. Ask if you need help, and trust others will help you. I will help you. Fill your heart with laughter and smile often. I love to see your smile. You are a unique, special, and amazing person. There will never be another you. I appreciate all of you. Dream, believe, wonder, inspire, love, nurture, and always listen. That is what I will do for you. Love, Your Teacher

An Open Letter to My Students at the End of The Year

My students, I know these last few weeks haven’t been easy. There are so many expectations and much excitement over the end of the school year. I know I’m a little more easily frustrated this time of year and I can seem more difficult to please. I know you are feeling a bit more wiggly as you become filled with anticipation over the fast-approaching summer, but I want you to know something. I want you to know that as we embrace the blur of awards ceremonies and report cards that this time of year brings, I’m feeling a bit bittersweet.  I look at you and realize you aren’t the same kids that I welcomed into my classroom last year. You’re all a couple inches taller. You have a different haircut. Your style has changed a little as you’ve grown into yourself a tad bit more.  I think of how you’ve learned. You’re reading at a higher grade level and you can speak with a confidence you didn’t possess in August. You’re not that same kid I met; you’re different, and that simultaneously breaks my heart and comforts me. You see, I’m looking forward to this summer as much as any of you. I’ve dreamed about my alone time and I’ve wished time away. I’m proud of the job I’ve done when I realize the kids you’ve become, but I can’t help but wonder if I did enough. Could I have done more? Did I prepare you for the road ahead? Did I give it my all? And mostly, I did. I had cloudy moments where my vision was blurred by stress from too many papers to grade and too many conferences to conduct, but I always cared. Always. And I hope you always felt that.  I hope you always knew that I cared; more than you learned how to write a thesis statement and more than you know how to write a coherent essay. Of course, I hope that I prepared you for what’s ahead and made your transition to the next grade easier, but I could live with not being the best essay-grader or the coolest lesson-giver. I hope, more than anything, that I’m the teacher that prepared your heart. I hope I’m the teacher who helped you handle rejection with grace. I want to be the teacher who was firm but kind. I hope I was the role model you needed. Today, it’s hard to say goodbye. It’s an adjustment to go from welcoming your face at my classroom door each morning to wondering how you’re doing years later. It’s difficult to go from being your safe place to someone you see occasionally in a hallway.  I know I am *just* your teacher, but we’ve spent five days a week together for the last ten months and change is never easy. I hope you’ll remember me. I hope my discipline made you stronger. I hope my kindness made you feel safe. I hope that my classroom was a place that you learned many things and made many friends; I hope it was a place you genuinely like to be. While I’m a little sad to welcome a whole new group next year instead of continue to know you more, I’ll think of you succeeding where you are. I’ll think of how you’ve grown and how you’ll continue to do so. And I’ll not only think of how much you’ve learned but also how much you’ve taught me as we’ve grown. – boredteachers.com

The end of the school year is a bittersweet time for both students and teachers. Everyone is ready to move on to a new phase: Farewell, 8am classes! Hello, beaches and bbqs, daydreams and social lives!

The end of the school year offers a reprieve from endless researching and marking and micromanaging and parent involvement (or lack thereof).

Goodbye to Students from Teacher (Preschool, Elementary)

Welcome letter to students from teacher (preschool, elementary).

Writing a student welcome letter is a great way to greet and introduce yourself to your new students and their parents. Its purpose is multifaceted: to welcome new and returning students, set expectations and standards for the school year, and offer parents a glimpse into your classroom. This is likely the first contact between the teacher and parents, so anticipate their questions, provide a welcoming intro answering their questions, and provide contact info or a process for contacting you throughout the year. Proactively set a positive tone for the school year.

A letter from the teacher welcoming the students, should include the following:

Sample welcome letter for [grades one to six] students.

Below we have provided two speeches- Long and Short Welcome Speech on Teachers Day by students. The Long speech comprises of 500-600 words, and the Short speech consists of 200-300 words, respectively. You can make use of these speeches and grace the occasion.

Long Welcome Speech on Teachers Day by Students

A warm welcome to the Honorable Principal, Vice-Principal, Fellow students, and my Dear Loving Teachers. Greetings to all.

We all have gathered today to celebrate the joyful Teachers day and to thank and praise them for their dedication and hard work. Today, the 5th of September also marks the birthday of a great professor, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. It is the Day we celebrate Teacher’s Day with fun and frolic.

On this occasion, I would like like to thank all my teachers wholeheartedly and mt class teacher for giving me this opportunity to speak before all of you. Teacher’s Day is celebrated worldwide, where students revere and wish their beloved teachers.

Today’s event includes various activities like Thanksgiving speeches, Prayer, Songs, Dance, etc. in a pattern where all students have prepared a particular small special for our teachers.

The reason for Teachers Day to exist is because Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan accepted that his birthday to be distinguished and celebrated as Teacher’s Day. Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was a righteous man and an exemplary example for a teacher. Our teachers have also been the same without any demand but just showering lots of love upon us.

Since our inception in school, we have always looked up at our teachers, who treat us like their own and love us from the bottom of their hearts. They feed us valuable lessons and push us with motivation to survive through any obstacles in this world. They are our guiding spirits.

Teachers pass on knowledge with the hope that all their students will achieve good careers and success in life. We must be grateful and indebted to all our teachers for even the smallest things in our life. Teachers, you have always been our guardians, and our entertainers, too, for teaching the most boring subject in a fun and simple, understandable manner.

I still reminiscence about the Day that did not understand any of my Hindi poems. I was in grade nine, and while my entire class understood and kept reciting the poem, I was the only one struggling with the meaning. My Teacher understood it without me even having to tell her.

The lunch bell rang, and after the entire class left, she made me sit down and thoroughly explain and understand the complete poem. They are the ones who understand our needs in our lives without even asking. This is how great a teacher is. They sacrifice for our future endeavors.

Teachers demand nothing but just happiness and success. They teach us the hope that we will become good citizens. Thus, as students, it is our responsibility to study hard and make our teachers proud and parents proud.

Hard work is not necessarily only in our studies, but we should also carry forward the moral values that we have imbibed through our teachers to future generations. The most important things are to revere and value our incredible teachers.

In the end, I would like to thank all my teachers for the efforts, sacrifice, and hard work they have put on us so that we grow in the right path. You are guiding spirits who never let us trip over and make us realize that failure is a stepping stone to success and that we should never give up at any point in our lives.

From the bottom of our hearts, we would like to appreciate all your hard work and efforts to make-believe in ourselves. You have pitched us values that make us realize that we are walking in the directed path towards our future.

SLP 101: Welcome Letters,Attendance, Billing

09/03/2013 by Jenna 29 Comments

welcome speech from teacher to parents

It’s Tuesday and the last of you are likely heading back to work today! Don’t worry, some of us have been working for an entire month now! I’m continuing the SLP 101 series this week. We started with Interviewing and Salaries.   My last post started getting you settled in getting started in the schools. In that post I told you how I get started.

Find your caseload Gather the student files for your caseload Create a caseload list: I make 3 lists: alphabetical, by IEP date, by re-evaluation date. Do file reviews: see included sheet below Access to IEP Files Set up meetings for any immediate needs (this might include transfers into the district – they often need to be done immediately before you can begin services).

Let’s keep moving on that list! Here is what we have left:

  • Create a Welcome Letter and gather any other information to send home and make folders.
  • Develop an attendance system
  • Develop a medicaid billing system
  • Check on FM systems
  • Check on 504 students
  • Create Data Sheets
  • Create Schedule
  • Develop lesson plans for the first week.

welcome speech from teacher to parents

You can grab the Speech and Language Attendance Calendar for free on my TpT Store . It includes the template name at the bottom if you want to customize it different that I did.  504 students/FM systems : Every district is different, so check with the other SLPs to see if you are responsible for any 504 students or students with FM systems. Sometimes the SLP is the person to get the FM system set up, a critical things to take care of before the first day of school for students!  Data Sheets: A while back I shared my data sheets with you!

I’d love to know where you got your zig-zag background and border for your organizational stuff, and what program you use to make such cute things! I am constantly looking here for inspiration and TPT things, and I love that background… I would love to use it on all my binders!

Thanks, Obsessed with Chevrons

09/03/2013 at 7:51 pm

I bought that background. Just search TPT or Etsy for ‘chevron backgrounds’. 🙂

09/03/2013 at 4:01 pm

I do my attendance the same exact way and it has worked great for a few years now!

On another note…I can’t even wrap my head around the fact that you are not allowed to know who to bill Medicaid for, so you have to bill every kid! That is crazy!

Jenn Crazy Speech World

09/03/2013 at 7:50 pm

Billing for the entire caseload is PAINFUL. Not an enjoyable part of my day!

09/03/2013 at 8:15 pm

Jenna, Here’s a handy tip: When I send home the welcome letter I attach a sheet a paper to be returned to me asking for parents to fill in several lines: 1. Parent names 2. Best email 3. Best person to contact with a questions or comments regarding speech therapy 4. Best phone number. I then type a reference sheet with this info for my caseload. It comes in very handy!!!

09/03/2013 at 11:04 pm

Love it Kay! Good idea!

09/03/2013 at 10:05 pm

Jenna, I can’t believe you have to bill for every child. That’s crazy! I’d probably find a way around that issue. Can’t you talk to your supervisor? Do you use this same service we use in Illinois? I’ll look up your kids for you. Sshhhh don’t tell anyone!! http://www.go-sgi.com/GoClaimLogin.aspx

It’s horrible! It’s a state law though. Every SLP I know in Ohio bills for every student. We might be grouchier than the rest of you! It’s mostly annoying when they try to spin in and say ‘this way you don’t have to monitor it as kids come on/off Medicaid because you just bill for everyone”. UH HELLO!!!!

09/06/2013 at 10:27 pm

You’re not alone…we have to bill for every student in NC too. So frustrating!

This post is just what I needed today! I have to document attendance and membership hours for my preschool, kindergarten, and private school students, as well as document 3rd party billing. I was struggling to develop a system to track everything and I think the way you track attendance for billing may be just what I need! Great idea!! **edited for typo**

09/04/2013 at 3:32 am

I have to bill for each student as well. At the beginning of the year when I do my master schedule I plot each students minutes in a spreadsheet M-F assuming each student attends. Then I paste this into the month’s billing. Throughout the month I just write down who was absent and what date or if I had a meeting and then delete from my spreadsheet. Of course new students have to be added and students that exit need to be removed, but it has worked out pretty well for me.

09/06/2013 at 2:54 am

We also have to bill for every student. My tracking system is similar to your second calendar system, but I have a grid set-up with rows of empty boxes with the days of the month written along the top and month names on the left – I put one slash mark for a full session, and then slash the other way when I’ve billed for it (making an X). If the session doesn’t happen, I put in a one letter code for the reason so I know whether I need to make it up. I have one for each student and on the bottom of the page I have a place to check off when their quarterly reports are done, when their annual IEP is due, info on their 3-year re-eval due date, etc.

09/06/2013 at 6:15 pm

Jenna, where do you keep the students’ attendance and data sheets? Do you take them out of their working file each time you see them?

09/06/2013 at 8:12 pm

I love the idea of adding the QR code! That is just fabulous! How did you do it though? I am SO copying you.

I am a brand-spanking new SLP, and I LOVE YOUR SLP 101 SERIES! I cannot express enough how helpful this has been for me. The area I’m working for grants temporary waivers for working students who are still in graduate school. Starting at my school district, I felt lost, I could barely keep my head above water. Your SLP 101 series has helped me keep on track and get organized. I am “inheriting” quite a bit of materials from the SLP I am replacing, (YAHOOOO for RETIREMENT!) mostly homework packets to send home, workbooks, and various therapy textbooks. I have come to discover that she had bought all of the games, toys, and the whole of super duper herself, and took everything with her. 🙁 When I say everything, I mean EVERYTHING. The only things that remain in my speech room are file cabinets with student files and homework packets, a cabinet filled with the workbooks and textbooks, a kidney table and chairs, and desk. Bulletin boards, bookcases, file crates, and an extra banquet table for more surface space, all belonged to the previous SLP. She even paid for binders and folders for students out of pocket. I work for a VERY SMALL country school district, with a very limited budget that I would prefer to spend on updating the assessment materials. What would you suggest be my first investments? I call games, toys, books, furniture, office supplies my investments, because I have my whole career ahead of me! 🙂

Jenna, I absolutely love your blog and have been stalking it for a few years, and today I had to giggle a bit when I read your 101 series because I do some of the same things that you do with my spreadsheets. I’m always using spreadsheets to sort my information. Sometimes I think I am so analytical that I cannot get myself organized properly. Even though I am a veteran SLP, I am always looking for validation that my ideas are valuable or “good.” I just want to thank you for sharing all your wonderful ideas, routines, procedures, etc.

Jenna –

You are awesome! I just accepted a school position for 2018. I am coming from adult OP with occasional pediatric OP experience over the past two years. I am thrilled to start at the school, yet incredibly nervous about all the organization/deadlines and scheduling! Thank you for all your posts. I am feeling less anxious by the minute as I read through them.

THANK YOU! Hope you are doing great and enjoying your summer!

Do you have a supply list for your students? Do you require them to bring things in at the beginning of every year at the elementary level? Or do you just have the communication folder?

08/20/2017 at 8:21 am

No supply list.

How do you get that barcode on the letter for easy scanning?! That’s awesome.

P.S. I just discovered your blog today and I’m in speech heaven! Love it!

Welcome Speech on Teachers Day by Students – Speech 1

Good morning to all our dear teachers, and a heartfelt welcome to you as we come together to mark this special day. We’ve gathered here to recognize and appreciate the important role our teachers play in shaping our minds and characters for a better future.

On the occasion of teacher’s day, I – Manu Saini being the head girl is present before you all to deliver a welcome speech for our beloved teachers. We all welcome our teachers to an entertaining day where we as students would take an opportunity to present before you various plays and dances which will not allow you to leave your seats.

Teachers’ day is one of the most important days in the life of students. This day is celebrated on 5 th September on the birth date of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan who himself was a teacher of great repute and also held the position of India’s second President.

Students are considered to be the future pillars, then teachers you are the ones who construct those pillars in a positive way. You shape our lives in a beautiful manner through your hard work and dedication. We are happy to celebrate this day to show you how grateful we are for whatever you have done for us your entire life.

I would love to share my experience of an amazing teacher which made me realize that how important teachers are in our lives. I was in kindergarten when I wrote my first essay and my teacher gave me a star. It was not only a star for me but a motivation to do well in my life and here today I stand before all of you as the head girl of my school. My teacher was the one who gave me that confidence. This is what a teacher’s role is in our lives. Teachers have magic wands which helps us in making our lives easier and fruitful. It is rightly said that “teachers are candles who keep on burning and igniting our minds which removes the darkness of ignorance from our lives”. They mould us, shape us and carve us in becoming good human beings with their virtue of knowledge.

They pass this knowledge with the hope that we as students will achieve success in our life and make good careers. We are indebted to our teachers for every little thing in our life. You have always been our guiding angels and our entertainers too by teaching us in a fun manner through which we learn and also enjoy our syllabus instead of getting bored.

Teachers demand nothing from us but teach us with the hope that one day we will become successful in our lives. Thus, we as students have the responsibility to work hard in our studies and make our teachers and students proud. Working hard in studies is not the only duty, but we also need to carry forward the moral values that our teachers have taught us to the future generation. The most important thing is to value and respect our amazing teachers.

Therefore, I request all my dear friends to follow the advice of your teachers and become their ideal students so that you can bring a beautiful smile on their faces.

Welcome Speech on Teachers Day by Students – Speech 2

Respected Principal, Vice Principal, Teachers and My Dear Colleagues!

We all are here to celebrate the joyful teacher’s day and to praise them for their hard work and dedication. Today is the 5 th of September, the day when we celebrate teacher’s day with fun and frolic. I would like to thank my class teacher to give me this wonderful opportunity to speak before you all on this auspicious occasion. This day is celebrated not only in India but all over the world where students give respect to their beloved teachers and prepare for various activities like Dance, Thanksgiving speeches, Prayers etc., in a similar pattern we all students present here have also prepared something special for our teachers.

It was Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan who accepted that his birthday to be celebrated as Teacher’s day. He was a very righteous person and that is the reason he dedicated his birthday to the entire teachers family. Our teachers have also been the same with lots of love in their hearts which they shower on us without any demand. They treat us like their own children and love us from bottom of their hearts and soul.

As kids we have always looked up to them for everything in life. They have been our role models and for this we are really very grateful to them. They provide us the motivation to survive in this world and have always been our guiding spirits. They are the ones who without even asking understand what we want in our lives.

I still remember the day when I was in class 9 and I didn’t understand one of my Hindi poems. The entire class understood it and kept on reciting it as told by my Hindi teacher, but she was the one who without even speaking came to know that I didn’t understand the meaning of the poem. The bell rang and after the entire class left she made me sit for a while and made me understand the complete poem despite it being the lunch time. This is how great teachers are, they sacrifice everything for our bright lives and future endeavors.

We all understand the fact that on ‘Parent Teacher Meetings’ they never complain about our mischiefs we do in our classes but they are always more concerned about our studies. They do not scold us in front of our parents and also ensure that we are not scolded by our parents too.

Now I would like to call upon my class teacher and my Vice Principal to light the lamps on this positive occasion, followed by a dance programme which awaits you all.

Welcome Speech on Teachers Day by Students – Speech 3

Good Morning to the Vice Principal, Loving Teachers and My Dear Friends – Warm Greetings to Everyone!

Teachers are an integral part of our lives and they need to be rewarded for their efforts and hard work. So as the alumni of this school I am here to present before you a welcome speech for our beloved teachers.

Teachers are the building blocks of our lives. They act secondary to our parents. On this beautiful occasion and on behalf of all my dear friends I would like to take this opportunity to thank my teachers for shaping us as good human beings and making us to be worthy enough so that we can face the world with courage.

Teachers’ day is celebrated in commemoration of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was not only a great teacher but also served as the President of our country from the period 1962-1967. He firmly believed in the importance of education and recognized the value of teachers as facilitators of knowledge. We, as students in certain circumstances are difficult to manage but your attention on every student personally helps us to learn from our mistakes. I take this opportunity to mention on this teacher’s day what you all mean to us as teachers. We all are grateful to you for whatever you do for us.

This is according to us the best day in our lives where we all can thank you from our souls. We thank each teacher for being with us always in our thick and thin times. One day we all will definitely make our teachers proud and we say this from bottom of our hearts.

Teachers have always acted as guides who play an important role in changing a student into a responsible individual. They serve us selflessly so that we can attain our dreams and objectives. Their contribution is not only limited to schools, but also to the entire country as they also create and develop responsible and obedient citizens. Thus, after parents our teachers should receive the respect and gratitude. Teachers’ day is celebrated as a special event in different schools and colleges all over the world. We students want to make this day special for our teachers by offering you flowers and greeting cards from our side as a small token of respect and gratitude.

We all know that you won’t take it from us but please do accept them as just a small token of our love and respect for you all. This day provides all of us with a wonderful opportunity to be grateful to our beloved teachers and appreciation of their hard work. Hence, we all will make it a memorable day for you all teachers.

Welcome Speech on Teachers Day by Students – Speech 4

Teacher creates human beings and instill in them values, care, love and respect. A teacher is the one who puts into the mind of the child the meaning of his/her life on earth.

Respected Principal, the motivator and the guiding force of this great institution who supports in making every programme a worth.

You teachers are our inspiration and light house who shows us the right path and always guide us to follow the road less travelled. A very good morning to you and wishing you all a very Happy Teachers day.

Dear friends we all have gathered here to show respect and love to our beloved teachers through this celebration. Dear teachers, as we celebrate this special day we want that you should know that though we are naughty and sometimes disobedient but you have always dealt with us calmly and patiently. Every smile of yours makes us feel that we are in motherly care and you encourage us in the same way our parents do for us.

We love you teachers for accepting us the way we are, we always feel and experience gentle heart every time when you come to us. We do accept that you all do have certain personal issues like every individual does but you forget your personal problems and give us the smile which makes our day and gives us the inspiration to face the problems of life.

Dear Teachers on behalf of all of us we take immense pleasure to welcome you all to this function. May this function bring joy to your faces so that we as students become satisfied that our hard work has brought a smile on our beloved teacher’s faces and we were able to help you enjoy this auspicious day.

You as teachers develop our overall character and personality which makes us confident individuals and provides us the strength to deal with all sorts of problems in our lives. Teachers are like second parents who have a good influence in our lives and whenever we need them they are always present there to help us to get out of a problem. All of us have some day imitated our teachers as we believe them to be our role models since they provide us with everything we need to shape our personalities.

Welcome Speech on Teachers Day by Students – Speech 5

Good Morning everyone! A special Good Morning and lots of love to all the teachers present. I am ________ from class________. Your host for today and here on the dais to welcome you all on this grand occasion of Teachers Day.

Hope you all are in high spirits to celebrate Teachers Day today. I know many of you have your own plans on how to celebrate the day with your favourite teacher/s. But before we do that, let us welcome our esteemed guest for the occasion Mr/Mrs. __________. S/he is a remarkable teacher and an excellent academic achiever. Thank you mam/sir for being with us today!

I welcome our Principal, teachers and other school staff and request them to shun all their inhibitions for today and just enjoy the events that their dear students have planned for them.

Last but not the least I would like to welcome all the students of this institution as well as those from outside, who have joined us for today.

Well, before I speak further on the day’s events, I would like you all to remember the great teacher, a noble sole and an excellent statesman, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, in whose memory the Teachers Day is commemorated.

As you all know that he served as the first Vice President and second President of India, but above all, he was a distinguished scholar and a devoted teacher. These are some of his qualities for which he was nearly revered by his students.

Speaking further on today’s events, we have a lot of events lined up for today’s function, courtesy to our students and support staff. Almost all of the events have been managed by the students alone, to surprise the teachers.

Firstly, our Chief Guest Mr. /Mrs ——– will inaugurate the events along with Principal Sir by lighting an oil lamp, as the tradition is. The inaugural ceremony will be followed by few words of inspiration by the Chief Guest and Principal Sir.

The first performance “Dancing Angels” will be presented by std 1 students, which they dedicate to their teachers. These cute little souls have done quite a good deal of hard work and practice, for their teachers.

After the kid’s performance, we have solo song performance by one of my favourite friends. I will keep his/her name a secret for now. But, I would like to disclose the information that the song is dedicated to the teachers.

Apart from the stage performances we have also an antakshari session of half an hour, between the students and teachers. The main motive of it is to demolish the psychological differences between teachers and students and to make them to converse and interact without any hesitation.

Then we have a felicitation ceremony, in which our excellent teachers will be honoured with awards by the respected chief guest.

The students too, will felicitate their favourite teachers on this same stage. The name of the teachers and those students, I will not disclose, to keep the surprise element and the joy of the moment.

After the performances are over, you can surf through the stalls that the students have put up. There are stalls selling handicrafts, books and edible items at reasonable rates. The students are also offering heavy discount to the teachers.

I request the non teaching staff and the students to ensure that no inconvenience is caused to the teachers and the guests. Parents also need not to worry about their kids, as their wards are being taken care of, by their teachers and will be handed over to you after the performances.

It is a day for the teachers to relax and see what the students have planned to thank, honour, entertain and felicitate them. Teachers, we the students love you all and today we are going to show you that. At the end of the day we all will return happy and content, more or less, as a reflection of each other.

I hope that the celebrations of today will remain forever in our memories and always remind us of this wonderful phase of life when we progressed together.

Once again I welcome you all to this almost festive occasion of Teachers Day to witness the emotional bond between teachers and students. Let us all be a part of this distinguished occasion, making it remarkable and exclusive. Once again, I welcome the chief guest for taking out time from his/her busy schedule, and bless the occasion.

Once again a very special welcome to the teachers, and a request to them to just sit back and relax and enjoy the events that their own dear students have organized. This is your day and get ready to be pampered with love, gifts, awards and praises.

A very warm Welcome to you all and Thank You!!

Welcome Speech for a Farewell Party

“I welcome you all on this occasion of the farewell party, for which we have assembled here today.

“Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.” Semisonic

First, I would like to thank everyone who gave me this opportunity to welcome all my seniors and teachers on this memorable occasion.

School life is undoubtedly the best phase of life for everyone. Our parents, teachers, and friends all made this phase of life so memorable for us. We learned so many things from our inspiring teachers, made mistakes, made memories with friends, and whatnot. It was a long journey in itself.

Today marks the end of this school life, a life of sweet and bitter moments to cherish all our lives. We do feel a touch of sadness, but it is the nature of life to move forward. So, today, we will celebrate this moment with our beloved teachers and friends to bid a good farewell to all who have to leave now, with a smiling face.”

Welcome Speech for College Function

Good Morning to all!

“Honourable Chief Guest Mr. XYZ, Principal Sir Dr. ABC, Staff Members, and all the students present here. I welcome you all to the annual function of our esteemed college.

My name is Lakshita Kumar. I am a B.Sc. student and the secretary of cultural programs organized under our college’s authority.

I feel extremely proud to announce that our elite college has completed 25 years and we all have gathered today to celebrate the Silver Jubilee of the same. Behind huge success over the years are the dedicated teachers, motivated students, and helpful staff who give their best to make the college achieve great heights of success.

Also, It is a great honour for me to pronounce that today we are joined by a lady who hardly needs an introduction. She is well known for her work in educating poor children. Besides, he is a published and extensively read contemporary world author. (the title of his book) is one of her treasures that has gained a huge international acknowledgment.

Moreover, she is extremely loved and respected by her readers, including the country’s youth population, whom she has influenced the most with her writing. That said, let us call upon none other than Miss/ Mrs. (name of the chief guest).”

Welcome Speech for Teachers Day

Respected Principal, Sir, Teachers, and dear students!

speech-teacher's-day

“We welcome you all today to celebrate this auspicious occasion of Teacher’s Day. We celebrate Teacher’s day every year on 5 September to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.

“Those who educate children well are more to be honoured than parents, for these only gave life, those the art of living well.”  Aristotle

This quotation cannot be more true! Teachers are parents to children when needed. They light us up and lead us through the pathway of life. They seek nothing but respect in return for their persistent efforts to give their best.

Teachers are our ideals. They inspire us each day and make us strive towards success. They equip us with the power of knowledge and propel us with endless wisdom to become better future citizens.

On that note, I would like to invite our Principal mam on the stage and deliver her thoughts on the day”.

Welcome Speech for Children’s Day

Good Morning Everyone!

“We welcome all the students as we celebrate Children’s Day today.

“There are no seven wonders of the world in the eyes of a child. There are seven million.” Walt Streightiff

It is true the imagination of a child is incomparable. Children are a creation of God, and their smile is irresistible not to make us smile alone. Their innocence is overwhelming.

We celebrate Children’s Day every year on 14th November in memory of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, a great admirer of children. We celebrate this day on his birth anniversary.

School is a second home for children, and teachers are equivalent to the parents when students need them the most. This day is celebrated with many events, which cannot be possible without the contribution of our lovely teachers.

Mr. Walz to VP Walz? Former students react to seeing their teacher on presidential ticket

welcome speech from teacher to parents

To Minnesotans, Tim Walz is their governor of six years. To Vice President Kamala Harris , he is her newly official 2024 running mate.

But to Nate Hood, he was Coach and Mr. Walz.

"I'm much more excited about the race now that he's involved," Hood, 40, said. "The energy that he's bringing right now to the campaign reminds me of the energy that he would bring to football practice."

Formerly Hood’s eleventh grade geography teacher, Walz is now #2 on the Democratic presidential ticket . Harris announced the decision Tuesday.

Walz was one of a handful of candidates said to be in the running for the VP spot. Weeks ago, the governor was relatively unknown outside the Midwest. Today, his name recognition and popularity have rocketed among a crowd of freshly energized Democratic voters .

Live updates: Minnesota governor Tim Walz named Kamala Harris' running mate

Hood said the Walz he knows has always been adored.

“Tim Walz is a very down to earth human being. When you see him and when you talk to him, he's very relatable,” said Hood, a city planner in St. Paul, Minnesota. “I think that's a huge asset for the Harris team.”

Walz taught social studies and coached a championship team

Walz, born and raised in Nebraska, began his teaching career in South Dakota at a Native American reservation, then spent a year teaching in China, before returning home to the Cornhusker State.

He and his wife – and fellow teacher – Gwen moved again to her home state of Minnesota in 1996.

Walz taught social studies and geography at Mankato West High School in southern Minnesota, where he was also a football coach and helped lead the team to their first state championship.

“When he wanted to amp up players before a game, he did a great job of it,” Hood, a 2002 graduate of Mankato West and defensive line player at the time, said. “Just like the fiery speeches that you see him give today that might go viral, that's what he was doing. Except he was yelling at a bunch of 16- and 17-year-olds.”

In his new role, Walz will be expected to help amp up the entire Democratic base and any Midwestern moderates still deciding between Harris and former President Donald Trump in 2024. And he began that work even before Harris called his name, credited with coining the insult “weird,” now popularly used by Democrats against Trump and MAGA conservatives.

More: Why Kamala Harris chose Tim Walz over Josh Shapiro as her running mate

"These are weird people on the other side," Walz told MSNBC in July. "They wanna take books away, they wanna be in your exam room, that's what it comes down to and don't, you know, get sugar-coating this, these are weird ideas. Listen to them speak, listen to how they talk about things."

A teacher "universally beloved"

Other students at Mankato West remember Walz bringing that same energy and passion to his classroom.

“I was a ‘C-ish student in high school,” Noah Hobbs wrote on X ahead of the Harris campaign’s official announcement. “Mr. Walz took the time to make sure that I was successful. Not only in his class but others. He made learning exciting.”

The now-governor had a reputation for being the fun and favorite teacher, even by those who didn’t have him for history class.

“Everybody liked Mr. Walz,” said Emily Scott, who did not have Walz for a teacher but remembers him leading their school trip to China when she was 17.

More: 'Boring' vs 'weird': Trump campaign tries to define Walz after his Vance criticism stuck

Scott said Walz, who was also a lunchroom supervisor, acted as a bridge between the student cliques.

“There were jocks that did football. There were history nerds like me that wanted to go to China,” Scott said. “Debate and speech nerds, band nerds. And Mr. Walz stood in the middle of all of that and was pretty much universally beloved.”

When a student at Mankato West wanted to start the school’s first gay-straight alliance club in 1999, Walz agreed to be the group’s faculty adviser.

"It really needed to be the football coach, who was the soldier and was straight and was married," Walz said of his role in a 2018 Star Tribune article .

Educator to politician, he's still Mr. Walz

Walz made the shift from educator to politician in 2006. He ran for a seat in the U.S. House, flipping what had been a reliably Republican district in southern Minnesota.

Six terms later, Walz set his sights on governor. He is currently in the middle of his second term.

Peter Williams, a 2002 alumnus like Hood and Scott, has watched his former geography teacher go from Mankato to Congress to the governor’s mansion, and now to representing the Democratic presidential ticket out on the campaign trail.

He described Walz as a local celebrity back home in Mankato.

"He was already a pretty big figure in town that was always so nice to everyone,” said Williams, a 41-year-old attorney in Minneapolis. “It doesn't matter whether he's running for (vice) president or whatever, he's still the same guy. So, yeah, I think of him as Mr. Walz.”

Independence Day Speech for Students

Good morning to our esteemed guests, respected teachers, and dear friends,

Today, we gather to celebrate India's Independence Day. I am truly honored to share my thoughts on this special occasion. I am very grateful to my teacher for giving me this opportunity to speak on our country's Independence Day.

On this day, India gained freedom from British rule through peaceful and nonviolent movements. The British ruled over us for 200 years, coming to India for trade but instead exploiting our nation and its people. Our ancestors fought hard for many years before India achieved independence on August 15, 1947.

This day is a reminder of the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters who fought for our country's freedom. It is a day to honor those who gave their lives so India could become an independent nation. We must pledge to stay devoted and committed to our country today.

In closing, I pay my respects to those brave souls with a quote from Sarojini Naidu:

“A country’s greatness lies in its undying ideal of love and sacrifice that inspire the mothers of the race.”

Jai Hind, Jai Bharat.

Short and simple Independence Day Speech

Good morning to respected Sir/Madam and everyone present here,

Today, we come together to honour the bravery of our freedom fighters on Independence Day. This day is not just a date on the calendar; it symbolizes India’s courage, resilience, and unbreakable spirit.

Independence Day is celebrated on August 15 each year, marking the day India gained freedom from British rule through nonviolent protests and civil disobedience.

The struggle for independence began during World War I, led by Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.

From 1857 to 1947, our history is filled with revolutions and the sacrifices of great leaders and freedom fighters.

The Indian Independence Bill was introduced in the British House of Commons on July 4, 1947, and was passed within two weeks, ending over 200 years of British rule on August 15, 1947.

This Bill led to the creation of India and Pakistan as separate nations.

August 15 reminds us of the immense sacrifices made by our freedom fighters, including Mahatma Gandhi, Bhagat Singh, Chandra Sekhar Azad, and many others, known and unknown, who fought to free India from British colonial rule.

Our freedom fighters dreamed of an independent India, and their dreams became a reality. Remember, never stop dreaming, as dreams are what keep us alive.

On this Independence Day, let us promise to protect our country by upholding unity, helping others, and continuing our education. I will conclude my speech with these lines:

"Freedom in mind, faith in words. Pride in our hearts, memories in our souls. Let’s salute the nation on Independence Day!"

Bharat Mata ki Jai. Vande Mataram. Jai Hind.

Independence Day Speech for Kids

Good morning and Happy Independence Day to my respected teachers and dear friends!

Today, we are celebrating our 78th Independence Day, and we should be very proud to be part of a free nation where we have the freedom to speak our minds and live our lives as we choose.

India was ruled by the British for nearly 200 years. Thanks to the brave efforts of our freedom fighters, we gained independence on August 15, 1947. On this special day, our national flag was raised at the Red Fort in Delhi by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

Since then, we have celebrated Independence Day every year in schools, colleges, and government offices.

So, on this Independence Day, let’s promise ourselves to always protect our country by fostering friendship, helping others, and continuing our education.

Once again, I wish you all a Happy Independence Day. Let’s work together to build a wonderful nation!

Independence Day Speech in Hindi |
