How to Insert an Emoji in Google Slides
Emojis and special characters represent a digital language beyond common barriers to understanding different languages. An emoji or special character can convey a message regardless of the native language of your audience since they are universally well-understood. Emojis and special characters can be used in presentations to create slides with infographics, mood boards, and even diagrams. Just like PowerPoint templates , you can edit your Google Slides templates using emojis that are available natively for Google Slides.
How to Add Emojis in Google Slides
To insert emojis in Google Slides, select a placeholder and go to Insert -> Special Characters . This menu also allows you to search for and add emojis to slides. Note: If you simply click on an empty space on your slide, you will not be able to select the Special Characters option. It requires a placeholder, like a selected text box, to become available in the Insert menu.
Once the dialog box with special characters appears, select Emoji from the dropdown menu text to Categories . This menu is located in the middle of three menus in the Insert Special Characters dialog box.
This will show the available emojis that you can include in your slides. Simply click any emoji to add it to your slide.
Segregate Emojis by Category
If you want to segregate emojis and special characters, select a category from the dropdown menu on the right side of the dialog box. This will enable you to view emojis and special characters by categories such as People and Emotions , Animals , Plants, Food , Objects, Sports, Celebrations and Activities , Transport, Maps , Signage , Enclosed, Marks , Symbols , etc.
Search Emojis by Keywords
Another method to find emojis is to use the search bar quickly. You can type a keyword to look for emojis and special characters to insert them into slides.
Draw to Find an Emoji
To find an emoji, you can also draw it in the box available in the Insert Special Characters dialog box. This can help you quickly find an emoji or special character by scribbling it on the empty space instead of using a keyword or sifting through available categories.
The image below shows an example of an emoji inserted in Google Slides. You can creatively use emojis to design your slides to create visually appealing slides that can help grab your audience’s attention and convey a message using universally understood emojis, regardless of their native language.
You can use the placeholder where the emoji is placed to drag and drop it to a convenient location on the slide. To manage the size of the emoji, highlight it to select it and use the Increase or Decrease Font Size options to increase or reduce its size.

How to Insert an Emoji in Google Slides

If you are using Google Slides for presentations, you might want to incorporate emojis to enhance your message. In this article, we will explore the importance of emojis in presentations and guide you through the process of inserting emojis in Google Slides.
Understanding the Importance of Emojis in Presentations
Emojis have become ingrained in our online culture. They are no longer just reserved for casual chats but have found their way into business emails, social media posts, and even presentations. Emojis can bring a human touch to your message, making it more relatable and engaging for your audience. They can also help convey complex emotions or ideas with just a single icon, making your presentation more visually appealing and memorable.
Furthermore, emojis have the power to transcend language barriers, making them a universal form of communication. This universality can be especially beneficial in global presentations or when dealing with diverse audiences. Emojis can help bridge cultural differences and ensure that your message is understood and appreciated by all.
The Role of Emojis in Enhancing Communication
Effective communication is essential in any presentation. Emojis can act as visual aids that support your verbal message. They help create an emotional connection with your audience, enabling them to better understand and relate to your content. By using emojis strategically, you can make your presentation more inclusive, accessible, and entertaining.
In addition to enhancing communication, emojis can also inject a sense of fun and creativity into your presentation. They can add a playful element that captures your audience's attention and keeps them engaged throughout your talk. Emojis can evoke positive emotions and create a more enjoyable experience for your listeners, helping them remember your key points long after the presentation is over.
Benefits of Using Emojis in Google Slides
When using Google Slides, emojis can add a touch of creativity and personality to your slides. They can help break the monotony of text-heavy slides and make your message more engaging. Emojis work particularly well in presentations targeted towards younger audiences or for topics that require a more light-hearted approach. Additionally, emojis can act as visual cues, guiding your audience's attention to key points or reinforcing important concepts.
Moreover, incorporating emojis in Google Slides can showcase your tech-savviness and awareness of current trends. It demonstrates that you are attuned to modern forms of communication and are willing to adapt your presentation style to resonate with contemporary audiences. Emojis can set a dynamic and forward-thinking tone for your presentation, signaling to your audience that you are innovative and approachable.
Getting Started with Google Slides
Before we delve into the process of inserting emojis in Google Slides, let's first familiarize ourselves with the basic features and interface of this powerful presentation tool.
Basic Features of Google Slides
Google Slides is an online presentation software that allows you to create, edit, and collaborate on slideshows in real-time. It offers a wide range of features, including slide layouts, fonts, colors, and animations. You can also add images, videos, and shapes to make your presentations visually appealing.
One of the key advantages of using Google Slides is its seamless integration with other Google Workspace apps, such as Google Docs and Google Sheets. This integration allows for easy sharing and collaboration across different platforms, making it a versatile tool for team projects or remote work.
Navigating the Google Slides Interface
The Google Slides interface is user-friendly and intuitive. The top menu bar consists of various options, such as File, Edit, View, Insert, Format, and more. The left sidebar provides access to different slides in your presentation, while the right sidebar allows you to customize slide settings, apply themes, or add speaker notes. Familiarizing yourself with these features will help you navigate and utilize the software effectively.
Additionally, Google Slides offers a range of collaboration tools that enable real-time editing and commenting. Users can work on the same presentation simultaneously, making it ideal for group projects or virtual meetings. The revision history feature allows you to track changes made to the presentation over time, providing transparency and accountability in the editing process.
Step-by-Step Guide to Inserting Emojis
Now that you are familiar with Google Slides, let's walk through the process of inserting emojis into your presentation.
Accessing the Emoji Keyboard
To insert emojis, you need to access the emoji keyboard. In Google Slides, click on the place where you want to insert the emoji. Then, go to the top menu bar and click on "Insert." From the dropdown menu, select "Special characters." A panel will appear on the right side of the screen. Scroll down and click on the "Emoji" category to access a wide range of emojis.
Emojis have become an integral part of modern communication, adding a touch of fun and expressiveness to our digital interactions. From smiley faces to animals, food, and symbols, emojis offer a visual way to enhance your message and engage your audience. With a diverse selection available, you can choose emojis that resonate with your content and help convey your ideas effectively.
Choosing the Right Emoji
Choosing the correct emoji for your slide is crucial. Emojis should complement your message and align with the tone and context of your presentation. Consider the emotions or concepts you want to convey and select an emoji that best represents them. Remember to keep it relevant, professional, and appropriate for your audience.
Each emoji carries its own unique meaning and conveys a range of emotions, from happiness and excitement to sadness or confusion. Understanding the nuances of different emojis can help you select the most suitable ones for your slides. Take time to explore the various options available and experiment with different combinations to create visually appealing and engaging presentations.
Positioning and Resizing Emojis
Once you have selected the emoji, click on it and drag it to the desired position on your slide. You can resize the emoji by clicking and dragging the corners. Experiment with different placements and sizes to find the right balance between text and visuals.
Tips for Using Emojis Effectively in Google Slides
While emojis can enhance your presentation, it's important to use them effectively. Here are some tips to keep in mind:
Balancing Text and Emojis
Make sure the emojis complement your text rather than overpower it. Emphasize key points or add visual interest, but avoid cluttering your slides with too many icons. Strike a balance between text and visuals to maintain readability and clarity.
Additionally, consider the color and size of the emojis in relation to your text. A harmonious blend of text and emojis can create a visually appealing slide that captures your audience's attention. Experiment with different placements to find the most effective way to integrate emojis seamlessly into your content.
Choosing Emojis that Complement Your Message
Select emojis that reinforce your message without causing confusion or misinterpretation. Consider the cultural context and potential variations in emoji interpretations. Aim for universal emojis that most people can easily understand and relate to.
Furthermore, think about the emotional tone you want to convey with your presentation. Emojis can convey a wide range of emotions, so choose ones that align with the overall message you're trying to deliver. Whether it's a friendly smiley face to engage your audience or a thumbs up to emphasize approval, selecting the right emojis can enhance the impact of your slides.
Avoiding Emoji Overload
While emojis can bring an element of fun and creativity, don't overdo it. Using too many emojis can distract your audience and dilute the impact of your message. Use them sparingly and strategically to maintain professionalism and avoid overwhelming your audience.
Consider the context of each slide and determine where emojis would be most effective in supporting your content. Remember, less is often more when it comes to using emojis in presentations. By strategically incorporating emojis, you can create a visually engaging and memorable slideshow that effectively conveys your message.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
Despite the ease of adding emojis to Google Slides, you may encounter a few common issues. Here's how to troubleshoot them:
Resolving Emoji Display Problems
If emojis appear differently or not at all on certain devices or platforms, it could be due to compatibility issues. To ensure consistent display, use widely supported emojis and test your presentation on different devices and platforms.
What to Do When Emojis Don't Insert Correctly
If emojis don't insert correctly or appear as blank spaces, it could be due to font compatibility issues. Make sure you have fonts that support emojis installed on your device. Alternatively, try copying and pasting emojis from other sources or using different emoji keyboards or plugins.
Adding emojis to your Google Slides presentations can elevate your communication and make your message more engaging. By understanding the importance of emojis, navigating Google Slides, and following the step-by-step guide, you can easily insert emojis into your presentations. Remember to use emojis effectively, considering the balance between text and visuals, and avoiding overload. Troubleshoot any issues that may arise to ensure a seamless presentation experience. With emojis as your allies, you can captivate and connect with your audience in a whole new way.

Google Slides is a go-to solution for creating presentations. While you can make a presentation from scratch or explore templates to get a head start, the latest Gemini AI integration takes the experience to the next level. You can create compelling slides, generate relevant visuals, and summarize a long presentation with a single click.
Whether you are a student looking to impress your class and professor, an educator aiming to go over key takeaways from received presentations, or a professional seeking to deliver an impactful presentation to potential customers or investors, Gemini is your secret weapon to get the job done in style. Let's check it in action.
Since Google Slides is a web solution, the trick below works on Windows desktops, MacBooks, and affordable Chromebooks .
Accessing Gemini in Google Slides: Requirements
While Google offers a free Gemini AI on the web and mobile, accessing the same in Google Workspace apps requires a paid Google One AI Premium plan . It's priced at $20 per month and offers a 30-day free trial for new subscribers.
Aside from unlocking Gemini in Google Workspace apps, the Google One AI Premium plan offers access to the next-gen Gemini AI model and 2TB of Google Drive space. After completing the sign-up process, Gemini AI appears in your Google Slides account. Let's check it in action.
Google Gemini tips and tricks: Put Google's most capable AI model to good use
Not sure what's up with Gemini? Here are the goods
1 Create a slide using Gemini
The ability to create a unique slide based on a text prompt is an effective way to explore and use Gemini in Google's presentation software. You can create a new presentation or open an existing one and select the Gemini icon in the upper-right corner to access the prompt text box. Now, type a text prompt and press Enter to generate a slide.
I entered Create a slide about buying an electric vehicle , and here is what Gemini generated. Google's AI model did a good job by adding a relevant heading, sharing the advantages of EVs, and generating a necessary image. Quite neat, right? Gemini is also smart enough to use the same text style as my existing presentation.
If you are satisfied with the results, select Insert . Or else, click Retry to give Gemini another shot. When I clicked Retry , it came up with the following:
Here are other prompts you can try with Gemini in Google Slides:
- Create a slide about the best activities in Paris Disneyland.
- Create a slide to thank my team members.
- Create a slide about a birthday party checklist.
Don't trust and use Gemini answers in your presentation. Give it a personal touch based on your requirements and preferences.
2 Generate original images
Coming up with unique images for your Google Slides presentation can be challenging. Instead of browsing the web for your images, ask Gemini to generate one.
I was stuck with a bland birthday checklist slide for one of my presentations. I ran this prompt to create an image: Generate an image of a birthday party with ballons and celebration items . Look at the results:
Gemini generates around four images. Select the image you want to use and click Insert . Gemini is good at generating images of objects and items. It doesn't create new images with people.
Be creative and descriptive with your text prompts for generating images. For example, when I ran Create an image of birthday party , Gemini didn't create and show suggestions. However, when I used the prompt above, Gemini did the job in style.
3 Brainstorm slide ideas
Aside from creating slides and images, you can use Gemini to brainstorm ideas. I was working on a wedding presentation and asked Gemini to brainstorm a list of ideas to manage a successful wedding . You can check the screenshot below for the outcome.
Gemini quickly created several headings with a detailed bullet list that I can use in my slides:
- Planning and Organization
- Guest Experience
- Ceremony and Reception
- Vendor Management
- Contingency Planning

4 Summarize selected slides
Gemini AI can summarize selected slides in Google Slides and enhance efficiency. You can highlight specific slides and request summaries from Gemini, receiving brief and precise overviews. You'll save time and effort when reviewing extensive content.
You can select relevant slides from the left sidebar and ask Gemini to summarize them. In my experience, Gemini did a good job extracting key points from the selected slides.
5 Generate key takeaways from a presentation
This is another time-saving Gemini feature in Google Slides. Instead of summarizing selected slides, ask Gemini to generate key takeaways from the presentation. Here are some of the prompts you can use:
- What are the key takeaways from the first section of this presentation?
- What are the key dates mentioned in this presentation?
- What are the key takeaways mentioned in this presentation?
- According to the presentation, what are the potential benefits of buying an electric vehicle?
- Show me the benefits of using a Personal Knowledge Management system according to the presentation.
- Get me the final guest list for Mr. David's ring ceremony.
The possibilities are endless. You must be specific and use the right keywords to get the required information quickly. You no longer need to switch between slides.
Supercharge your slides
Whether you want to design a presentation from scratch, add flair to your existing slides, or find the best way to convey your message, Gemini helps you with a few clicks or commands. What are you waiting for? Sign up for the Google One AI Premium free trial and try it in your workflow.
Aside from Google Slides, your active subscription unlocks the AI chatbot in other Workspace apps like Gmail and Google Drive . Refer to our detailed guide on integrating Gemini with Google's productivity applications.
