  1. Pros and cons of getting a PhD in biology? : r/biology

It is possible to get through a Ph.D. and basically know little more than when you started. Or, you can take the opportunity to focus and learn at a rate far greater than any other previous point in your life (except possibly the first 5 years). You have the chance to be on the frontier of knowledge.

It's great that you're already looking into things though, but since it's so early I'd just recommend continuing the PhD program search. 4. I wasted six years of my life getting a PhD degree. What should I do

In some countries DSc is just what a PhD in biology/physics is called, while in other countries DSc is just honorary, while other countries don't use PhD at all and have only DSc, which are seen as the equivalent of PhD, in countries that have PhD. - Andrei. Commented Dec 10, 2019 at 17:51.

  5. Applying for PhD with a 3.2 GPA

I just read an incredibly disheartening post on reddit about Grad School admissions in the Biological sciences. The post basically makes it sound like I have no chance of getting into a good PhD program. I graduated from UC Berkeley with a Degree in Biochemistry in 2012. While in school I worked as an undergraduate researcher for 3.5 years.

  6. Finally, I Wrote a Post about Grad School

Often in bio Ph.D. programs this takes the form of a unified Molecular Biology department with divisions like genetics, biophysics, computational, biochemistry, etc. It makes sense, if you think about it. An immunology program might only have 2 or 3 slots, but an umbrella biology program would have 10-15 or 20-30 slots to fill.

  7. Be brutally honest; is a BS in Biology worthless? : biology

Both fields require graduate school, but its not a necessity if you're looking into doing research at biotech or pharmaceutical companies (average salaries are ~110k+ mid career in biotech hubs with only a BS, but can shoot up to ~170k+ with a PhD). Most people who say biology is useless typically do not fall into either category.
