Since 2005 LIBA has been supervising theses leading to Ph.D. Degree in Business Administration. The PhD Degree programme is affiliated to the University of Madras , Chennai. The Ph.D. programme is offered in disciplines such as marketing, finance, economics, systems, human resource management, decision sciences, operations management and supply chain management and other areas related to management and allied areas of research. The Institute offers Full Time as well as Part Time Ph.D. Programmes.

After applying through the University of Madras website candidates have to submit the details to LIBA .

The regulation relating to admission/registration, the conduct of the programmes, formation of Doctoral. Committee, examinations, and the award of the degree are framed by the University of Madras and LIBA will follow the same.

Candidates who have completed the following pattern of Study 10+2+3+2 (or) 11+1+3+2 are eligible for admission to P h . D . Programme. The Candidate should have obtained a master’s degree with 55% marks in the qualifying examination (PG Degree). For SC/ST candidates and for candidates who have completed the PG degree before 1991, the minimum can be only 50% for admission to the Ph.D. Programme.

As per the guidelines of the University of Madras.

The duration of the program will be a minimum of 3 years and a maximum of 5 years. Exemption of one year from the minimum duration is permissible in the case of candidates with an M.Phil. Degree.

JULY -2023 SESSION

The Continuation of Registration Fee has been revised from the year 2022 .The Candidate who have paid the continuation Fees ₹.1,000 /- for the year -2022 have to pay the balance amount along with the continuation fee for the current year.

(i.e.) ₹.2,000 /- [Full – Time] per year

₹.3,000 /- [Part – Time] per year

2.The Continuation fee be collected annually based on the session for which the candidate is admitted. i.e. for January session admission, continuation fee is to be collected in next January session / for July session admission, it is to be collected in next July session.

3. All Ph.D candidates admitted should register for Continuation of Registration every year uptosubmission of the Thesis.

4. All the candidates who have failed to register for Continuation of Registration for previous year can register now by paying the previous year fees and current year fees.

[c] Attendance Certificate(FULL TIME) / No Objection Certificate from Employer (PART TIME)

7.Fee exemption for SC / ST candidates.(within Tamilnaduonly) Enclose attested copy of Community Certificate.

Course Information

Madras University offers the M.Phil and Ph.D. course degree under both Full Times as well as Part-Time mode. The duration of both the programs is of 2 years. However, the mode of admission is different for both the study courses.

The minimum qualification for M. PHIL study program is a Master's degree from any recognized university. For the General category students who qualified for the master, course degree must have secured a minimum of 50% marks. For SC/ST/PWD students who qualified for the master degree must have to secure a minimum of 60% of marks

TANCET (Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Exam) / UGC /CSIR NET score is taken into the consideration for the selection procedure.

Candidates can visit the official website of the university and can pay the application fees of the amount INR 300/- online.

Madras University Ph.D. course minimum Eligibility Criteria:-

Candidates, who want to pursue a Ph.D. course in the full-time mode, have to complete all the course work within three years i.e. after joining the course and before submission of the thesis. Students who wish to apply under part-time mode have to complete the course work in a minimum of four years. Candidates who have an interdisciplinary M.Phil degree or M.Litt (in relevant discipline) will be given a relaxation of one year in order to complete the study program.

Eligibility for Full-time Ph.D study program:

The following mentioned aspirants are eligible to register themselves for the full-time Ph.D. study program:

* Master’s course Degree in Arts, Sciences, Fine Arts, Languages, Commerce, Education, Management Science, Law, Engineering, Technology, Architecture and Medicine including the Degree of Doctor of Medicine (M.D. or M.R.C.P), or Master of Surgery (M.S. or F.R.C.S./M.R.C.S.), Indian Medicine, Veterinary Science, M.Pharm. and Agriculture from any recognized university of india.

* M.B.B.S. Degree with two years of Senior House Surgeons or Special training or any equivalent recognized by the Medical Council of India or any competent authority.

* Bachelor’s Degree in Veterinary Science, Ayurveda, Siddha, Homeopathy, Unani Medicines, etc., with two years Senior House Surgeons or any equivalent special training in related disciplines of two years duration.

* ACA, FCA, AICWAI, ACSI qualifications of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India, and Institute of Company Secretaries of India provided the students have secured:

* One of the above qualifications after the lapse of at least 2 years after obtaining a UG course degree from any recognized university.

* A Minimum of the 55% marks scored in the aggregate in the qualifying degree examination.

* Research fellows or Research Assistants or Technical Assistants or Project Fellows or Project Assistants or Training Officers in extension departments approved by the University, appointed in the research projects funded by recognized agencies or Government are also eligible to register for the Ph.D. course on a full-time basis in the same department provided they satisfy the eligibility criteria laid above.

Madras University Ph.D. Application Procedure

The application form along with the prospectus for the Ph.D. study courses is available for download on the official website of the university. The student is required to download the application form and submit the duly filled-in form at the corresponding department of the university/institute, where they wish to undergo their research before the last date. The aspirant sold also submit a demand draft (dd) of amount INR 500 from any nationalized bank, drawn in favor of “The Registrar, University of Madras, Chepauk, Chennai 600005”. SC/ST students are exempted from paying the application fee.

The students also need to submit certain documents along with the application form to the concerned department. The list of documents required is mentioned below:

1. Birth Certificate or S.S.L.C. Certificate

2. Community Certificate

4. 10th standard, HSC/UG/PG/M.Phil. Mark Statements and Convocation Certificates

6. Approval of the qualification or appointment of the teachers by the University of Madras

8. Minutes of the Departmental Selection Committee recommending the student to do Ph.D. study program.

10. A Service Certificate and No Objection Certificate in original from the Head of the Institution where the student is employed indicating the date of appointment. (for Part-Time candidates)

12. A copy of the appointment order issued by appointing authority. (for Part-Time students)

14. A certificate from the Director of Technical Education or District Educational Officer stating that the polytechnics or Higher Secondary or High School where the teacher is employed has been recognized by the government. (for Part-Time aspirants)
