  3. Rock Dog movie review & film summary (2017)

But this movie, despite being about a dog who wants to play rock music, has no winky pop-culture references besides that. The comic actors doing voice work, who also include Luke Wilson, Lewis Black, Matt Dillon, J.K. Simmons, Kenan Thompson, and Eddie Izzard, all do their jobs with relish and dispatch, but there's nothing clever-clever about it.

  4. Rock Dog (2016)

Rock Dog: Directed by Ash Brannon. With Luke Wilson, Eddie Izzard, J.K. Simmons, Lewis Black. When a radio falls from the sky into the hands of a wide-eyed Tibetan Mastiff, he leaves home to fulfill his dream of becoming a musician, setting into motion a series of completely unexpected events.

  7. Rock Dog

For the Tibetan Mastiffs living on Snow Mountain, a dog's life has a simple riff: Guard a peaceful village of wool-making sheep from the thuggish wolf Linnux (Lewis Black) and his rabid pack. To avoid distractions, Mastiff leader Khampa (J.K. Simmons) forbids all music from the mountain. But when Khampa's son Bodi (Luke Wilson) discovers a radio dropped by a passing airplane, it takes just a ...

  8. Rock Dog Movie Review

Colorful, funny, and with a positive message for kids, Rock Dog's an animated adventure that has enough slapstick to entertain the kids and pop culture jokes and humor to entertain their parents. Rock Dog benefits from a strong voice cast led by Luke Wilson who brings the likeable, naïve, and always positive Bodi to life on the screen. J.K ...

  9. Rock Dog

Rock Dog is a movie that is at times mildly charming (if predictable and formulaic) but more often just kind of … odd. It feels like the unlikely mash-up of Spinal Tap, School of Rock, The Osbournes, a Wile E. Coyote cartoon and Kung Fu Panda … with just a dash of Buddhist thought creeping in at the margins.

  13. Movie Review: 'Rock Dog'

"Rock Dog" undoubtedly succeeds in creating a solid children's movie. However, it falls flat in incorporating more sophisticated themes and engaging mature audiences as well. Pixar's and Disney's continued success in appealing to a wider variety of age groups and not dumbing down concepts for young audiences inadvertently set a high ...

  15. Rock Dog 2: Rock Around the Park Movie Review

Our review: Parents say ( 2 ): Kids say ( 1 ): Without any of the celebrity voices of the prequel and a familiar storyline of the prodigal son venturing out, making mistakes, and returning home a better person, this sequel falls a little short. The settings of Rock Dog 2: Rock Around the Park are once again memorable, especially the Snow ...

  16. Rock Dog (2016)

Neutral —I enjoyed the movie and felt safe to bring my young children (age 5 and 9), based on the reviews here. I just want to point out some elements of the movie worth mentioning. 19. Rock Dog (2016)

Rock Dog is a low-down, no-damn-good movie. But terribly fascinating anyway, if more in theory than actuality. The film exists as a hoped-for evolutionary link between the second- and third-largest film markets in the world;* it has been 100% financed by Chinese production companies but 100% created by U.S. artists at a U.S. studio. The source material is a Chinese-language graphic novel.

  20. Rock Dog

Nothing about Rock Dog feels like it even contains the whisper of a spark of excitement, as the film's disjointed plot and stock characters feel like a flat, lifeless knock off of better animated film

Some aspects of the movie were occasionally cheesy and unrealistic but overall the movie was engaging with witty dialogue and positive moral points.
