Masters degrees in Education explore advanced topics in pedagogy (the theory and practice of education) as well as individual teacher training for schools, higher education and specialist roles.
Many courses are designed for students wishing to become qualified teachers, but some also provide continuing professional development (CPD) for existing practitioners.
Postgraduate Education degrees include teacher training qualifications (such as the PGCE), as well as academic programmes such as the M.Ed (Masters in Education). Shorter courses are also available in topics such as TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Foreign Languages) and TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language).
Vocational training courses will be delivered through a mixture of taught units and professional placements. Academic Masters in Education will include more scope for research and theoretical work.
Unsurprisingly, the majority of postgraduate courses in Education are designed to lead to a career in teaching. This isn't all there is to a PGCE or an M.Ed though. Education is a diverse profession, with opportunities to focus on different age groups and subject areas or on teaching children with disabilities or other special needs.
You won't necessarily be restricted to working within a school, either. Professional teacher training is gaining ground in higher education as university lecturers focus on the way they teach (as well as what they teach). Employment is also available with private tutoring companies or international language training businesses. Other organisations with education roles include museums, galleries and even local councils.
In addition to teaching qualifications, a Masters in Education can also provide a pathway to leadership and management roles within educational institutions. This could include roles such as school principal or superintendent. With a focus on educational policy, strategy and decision-making, a Masters in Education can equip graduates with the skills to lead and shape the future of education.
For those who are interested in research, a Masters in Education can also provide a solid foundation for further academic study at PhD level. With the option to pursue a thesis-based degree, students can undertake in-depth research into a topic of their choice, making a valuable contribution to the field of education.

I would rate the M.Ed course curriculum as highly relevant and comprehensive , with a score of 9 out of 10, as effectively adresses current educational needs and challenges, aligns with academic standards and covers a broad range of topics. Although it could be improved by incorporating more contemporary issues and specialisation.

I love to read English that is the reason I chose this course.i have prepared for this from my own notes and the YouTube channel is also useful for us. The course should not more lengthy so that we can cover and understand it easily in the selected time period..The frequency and timing of exams in my perspective are easy to moderate.
The curriculum is not that much modified. It is based on old education policy which is very wrong to teach education students old policy knowledge. There is lack of smart claases and the ICT is just taught in books only . No medium of technology is updated. Faculty is good but they didn't take classes because of documentation and paper work load.
The fee structure is very minimal in comparison with other central universities. State scholarships are open for students. No financial assistance is given to students and there is very very less amount of campus placement in professional courses.
The capus is quite big but there are some restriction in the college. There is annual fest held every year. There are libraries where you find the books and sports are also conducted by college. there are few groups in M.Edu but overall all groups are run by students.
The fees structure is not much high. The fees for M.Edu is about 45k for a year. There are scholarships also provided by govt. Which can be get by the help of college. My aim is not get campus placement.
In the year 2021, I completed My B.ED from the same University and My Aim was already decided to become an assistant professor of Education I have to do a Master of Education that's why I did. Term Exam is definitely on time as Calendar of Every Year Program wise is issued by University and it is followed by the college accordingly. If You study Properly and attend class regularly you can pass the term exam easily because here exams are malpractice free don't dare to cheat in the exams because rules are strict here.
The University is absolutely attractive and the hostel facility, literary club gym, and Extracurricular activities programs were subsequently conducted in the university headquarters. It is enjoyable. Libraries are there, have Big Hall for study with an AC facility and many more expensive ones and the book you have for your courses are available in the library. Extracurricular Activities are Conducted by the Union Leader. Required facilities for the course are available in the classroom like a smart board projector and more. MANUU STUDENT UNION is on Facebook.

The classes are very interactive. Both Lecture method and ICT tools are used to conduct leactures. There are 4 minors and 4 semester exams along with Dissertation. The exams are of good level checking the understanding and application of the students.
The annual fest of DAVV is one in which all the departments participate. The books in the library are accessible as much as uh can read. The classroom amenities are perfect. Not that many sports facilities. We give all our time to the dissertation.
I want to go into principalship that's why I opted for this course. The student ratio is 1:20. The faculty qualification is Ph.D. and more than 10 years of experience. The exam is timely bases and mid sem are also there.

The faculty was amazing and helpful and the ratio was 1:45, although they divides students among 2 or 4 groups according to the requirement. Faculty was qualified from reputed colleges and some were Doctorate in their field. It is an annual mode course where you only have exams once a year as there is a lot of fieldwork and fun visits and trips planned.
Life at the campus was amazing as B.El.Ed students stay From 8:30 AM TO 5:00 PM, and annual fees, sports day and Mata Sundari Day use to celebrate. The library was fully Air Conditioned and had access to all material required. For more materials and books B.El.Ed scholar can reach to DOE library.

College events.
It's a world level college having branches in and outside India. It is in the developed as well as in the rural areas so that everyone, whatever the circumstances are, should be educated. It is based on the theory that everyone should be educated so people who cannot study in regular colleges for whatever reason and are willing to study further can complete their studies with the support of IGNOU. Though it Is an open university, it has an equal reputation in the market as of regular reputed universities and can beat their standards.
A vast number of courses are provided here at affordable costs. The faculty is very supportive and understanding. Regular classes are held here. Subject guides are there to help the students how to study their courses. Different study materials i.e. books are provided to the students that is the biggest benefit of the students studying in IGNOU. The subjects are regularly discussed in the classes in such a way that students actively take parts in studies.
Faculty members in our college were qualified and helpful. One can take the benefit of it. They also help in preparing our assignment of the concerned course. After M.Com, students can prepare for the NET exam and becomes the assistant professor. Even they can study further and complete a Ph.D.
The facilities and infrastructure available in our college are great. The courses available are allotted with different classrooms. The college does not provide hostel facilities as students learning here are not regular, but students just want to complete their courses.
Extracurriculars activities are done in this University in very different forms, students have to take very different and active participation in these events, organized in a very proper way as well as the programmes are nice
This college gives me that kind of vibes which I like the most beautiful campus, cool and calm, environment is good, heard about campus long time back from friends and it's also dream to study in this University.

With over 15 years of hands-on experience teaching secondary science and a decade in senior leadership roles, my expertise has revolved around the improvement of teaching and learning.
I have worked for Tes for the past 7 years, I started as a pathway tutor on the SKE and iPGCE courses and I am currently the Deputy Program Director for the master's in education with pedagogy and have led on the international and domestic (UK) postgraduate certificate in education (iPGCE and PGCE). My passion lies in empowering teachers from around the world to develop evidence-based practice. I am particularly committed to motivating and enabling teachers to hone their teaching and expertise in areas that they are passionate about.

Students will need to import credits from previous qualifications (level 7 UK, level 9 IRL) using Accreditation of Certificated Learning (ACL). You can apply for your 60 Master level credits to be transferred through our ACL form submitted during application.
You will need to demonstrate:
that the learning is relevant to the programme on which you wish to study.
It is up to the programme leader or programme manager to decide whether your prior learning is sufficiently relevant to your programme.
Certificated learning must be recent, up-to-date and remembered. Generally, learning gained in the last five years is acceptable.
You should be prepared to demonstrate the steps you have taken to keep your knowledge up-to-date (e.g. through reading, professional development activities or courses), this is demonstrated through the ACL form that you complete during the application process
There is no charge for importing credits through the ACL route.
We recognise that for some students a postgraduate qualification is not possible, is dated or does not demonstrate the required level 7 credits for transfer using Accreditation of Certificated Learning (see Transferring my level 7 credits).
If this is applicable to you then you may be able to gain entry to the course through Accreditation of Experiential Learning (AEL).
You can apply to import credits based on an assessed portfolio of experience that you have acquired through work experience in a relevant field for a significant amount of time.
It is up to the head of program or programme manager to decide whether your experience and prior work experience is sufficiently to enable you to complete the AEL route
There is a charge at £500, this includes support to submit your portfolio, assessment and importing credits through the AEL route
For more information on the AEL process, please contact an advisor at [email protected] .
Anyone with an academic qualification from a country where English is the first language does not require IELTS. This means that any graduate of PGCE or iPGCE from Tes Institute would not need this: the qualification is evidence of your ability to study at postgraduate level in English.
We are working in collaboration with the University of East London (UEL) to offer this qualification. The award will come from UEL.
Will the award say the MA was studied online?
No. This is the mode of study and is irrelevant to the award that you gain. This will be a fully accredited MA like any MA from a UK university.
Will there be a graduation?
You have the option to graduate as part of UEL’s ceremony. You can opt-in through the student hub when you’re enrolled.
Absolutely! Our whole aim at Tes Institute is to create accessible training programmes. By offering everything online, you can fit study around the demands of your job and personal life. We’ll vary the times of lectures, offering them at different times, and we will always share recordings so you can be flexible in how you attend. Are there reading weeks and holidays?
Yes, most of your time on this course will be self-directed. We provide the lectures and seminars, but you can decide how to structure any session work, reading and research you wish to undertake.
We have holidays for summer, winter (Christmas) and spring break (Easter) so there is plenty of available time to work as you wish to. We would always encourage you to ensure you have breaks in the holidays too as this is incredibly important for your health and wellbeing.
Is there any flexibility if I find that I’m struggling?
Yes, we offer extenuations and extensions in the same way we do on our PGCE/iPGCE. Flexibility is so important to us as a provider: we understand the demands teachers face, that the school year can have pressure points and that you also have other commitments. Please keep your pathway tutor informed so they can support you and we know when you need help.
Can I study the MA in a year?
We’re currently offering it over 18 months due to the workload involved, which would be intensive in a year. We may offer the chance to study the MA in a year in the future, for those who feel able to achieve it. We would suggest keeping our details and enquiring next year.
Is the MA for early years, SEND, primary or secondary?
We have kept the curriculum broad so you can apply it to the phase/specialism you are working in and we will accept applications from people working in any nursery/kindergarten, school or sixth form college. The MA isn’t appropriate for higher education teachers (working in universities). The specific phase/specialism will not be stated on the final certificate.
Can I specialise in leadership?
We won’t be covering leadership strategy specifically, although we may draw on it for some of our lectures. There is certainly an opportunity to look at whole school issues for your Applied Project and leadership issues within the module assignments if this is an aspect of understanding you’d like to develop during your MA.
There is an option to pay in instalments. One instalment must be paid just before the course starts.
Currently, instalments are termly but other frequencies and ways of paying will be confirmed.
Will I have to pay VAT?
This depends on who is invoiced. Any invoice going to a school will be exempt from VAT, but learners are not. If you are invoiced directly, 20% VAT will be added to the fee.
Can I fund this with a student loan in the UK?
No, only funding for full MAs is currently allowed through Student Loans and this is a top-up programme. Given that most teachers hold a third of an MA already, from PGCE and iPGCE, it’s something we’ll be looking into further. There are professional loans available from other sources.
Is there any other funding available from anywhere?
It’s always worth approaching your school to see if they can help towards your fees.
Will there be any face-to-face training?
No, everything will be online. We’ll run lectures and use either Teams or Zoom to hold seminar groups to give you the opportunity to meet your peers and the team.
Will there be sessions on Tes Learn?
Yes, we’ll offer lots of optional content on Tes Learn that you can draw upon for your reading and research. You won’t be expected to submit learning diaries though.
How will I work with my pathway tutor?
Your pathway tutor will hold regular online meetings with you throughout the course, to keep in touch and support you with your assignment work and Applied Project. They won’t write feedback on learning diaries, like they did on PGCE/iPGCE.
Do I need to have a mentor and/or be observed?
Not for the MA, but it’s good practice to inform your school that you’re undertaking the qualification. We ask that all applicants indicate that they’ve done this.
You must inform your school that you are undertaking an MA as you will be asked to conduct action research, so there is an ethical obligation to them as they need to be aware of the work that you’re doing. Should they withhold consent for any reason, please contact us to discuss your options on [email protected] . You do not require written permission as there is no teaching practice element in this course.
The MA is a discrete academic qualification, it will not qualify you to be a teacher in the UK. It does demonstrate the depth of your knowledge of education and your professional commitment to understanding teaching and learning at postgraduate level.
To teach in the UK, you need QTS – qualified teacher status. This can potentially be obtained overseas via our Assessment Only route. We offer a 20% discount to iPGCE graduates who are eligible and wish to take this route. For more information on QTS, please contact Andrew Locke on [email protected] .
Yes, it’s worth 180 credits at Level 7 in total (60 from your PGCE/iPGCE and 120 studied as part of the MA course).
Yes. UEL has an established research community and has close ties to various publications. The School of Education at UEL also has a blog which will accept articles, as do we. We really hope to grow our contribution to our academic field and will be actively seeking out opportunities for our learners to do this, should you wish to.
Part time study is 10-15 hours on average, but this can be less depending on the tasks for the particular week. It shouldn’t be more than this and we would always recommend contacting us if the workload becomes too pressured.
Ideally yes, or in a similar institution with responsibility for teaching large groups or classes. If you’re on a break from work, such as maternity leave or an agreed career break, and wish to make a start, that’s fine. If you leave your current job for any reason and don’t move to another school, we would encourage you to let us know so we can discuss approaches to your final project work.
The MA content is very practical, although there may be room to apply it to other contexts.
Please contact us for a discussion of your situation and the possibility of undertaking the course on [email protected] .
This will be a complete MA award carrying the 180 credits – equivalent to any accredited MA from the UK.
We are subject to the same rules and regulations. In order to offer the MA, we worked through a long process to demonstrate to a panel of independent academic experts how we meet QAA quality benchmarks for postgraduate study and education studies. We had to share the module specifications and course materials with the panel so they could validate it and agree that we can offer this programme.
All work is moderated by UEL and then external examiners to ensure that it meets UK standards for MA education studies. This is why the university is able to make the award to learners.
By studying education at this level, you’ll develop your expertise in your field and be able to disseminate this to others too. It should make you a better practitioner, a more sophisticated educator and more knowledgeable about the area of research that you picked. It may also be a catalyst for progressing to PhD level study.
Ultimately, the more you know about the aspects of teaching you decide to explore, the greater chance you have of being asked to lead on this area in the future.
Not at this stage. It is an accredited MA but it will not meet the requirements of HKCAAVQ in order to make pay progression in Hong Kong. It will have the same value as any UK qualification.
Yes. You must make every effort to attend a lecture or watch the recording if the times offered don’t work for you. The lectures are all tailored to the assignment objectives, so they are essential to ensure you are fully equipped to complete these.
We have a global intake, so we’ll offer lectures twice at different times. We’ll also supply a recording. This means that you can try to attend either the live session in person, or watch the recording afterwards. We’ll run evening time sessions for residents in the UK.
Study groups are seminars for discussion linked to the content of the lectures that have been delivered. They will run at different times every 2-3 weeks, so you can register for whichever session works best for you. They will be guided by a member of the MA team and will be an opportunity to meet other members of the course and share ideas and research plans.

Are you ready to discover your college program?
Considering a college degree? First, you’ll have to understand the types of degrees and college degree levels.
Different degrees prepare you for different career paths. For example, you can’t become a psychologist with just a bachelor’s degree — you’d need a master’s or doctorate in psychology. And you usually can’t become an engineer without at least a bachelor’s degree.
Typically, as your university degree level rises, your earning potential increases, and the unemployment rate decreases. That’s one more reason it’s important to understand the different types of degrees.
There are many types of degrees you can earn in college. College degree levels can be broken down into two categories: undergraduate degrees and graduate degrees.
Here are the college degrees in order, from lowest ranking to highest:
While a doctorate is the highest education level, some fields may stop at a master’s. The phrase “terminal degree” refers to the highest degree in a field.
A professional degree is a type of graduate degree — often a doctorate — that prepares you for a professional career in fields like law and medicine.
Learn about start dates, transferring credits, availability of financial aid, and more by contacting the universities below.
Most associate degrees prepare you to enter the workforce immediately upon graduation. These programs can be found at community and technical colleges and typically last 1-2 years.
An associate degree can also serve as the foundation for a bachelor’s program. You may even be able to transfer some of the credits you earned for your associate degree toward a four-year degree.
Some associate degrees require you to complete an internship or practicum in addition to taking classes. This is particularly common among healthcare and tech degrees.
To apply for an associate degree program , you’ll need a high school diploma or equivalent, like a GED certificate. Some schools may require you to submit standardized test scores, such as the ACT or the SAT, as well.
What can you do with an associate degree.
An associate degree prepares you for vocational, allied health, and support roles. For example, you can become a medical assistant , paralegal , or vet tech with an associate degree.
The highest-paying careers with an associate degree pay over $80,000 per year. See the table below for salary information on other popular associate degree jobs.
Job | Median Annual Salary (2023) | Job Growth Rate (2022-2032) |

Colleges can offer three kinds of associate degrees:
Arts, humanities, and creative fields typically offer an AA, whereas social sciences and natural sciences fields often award an AS. Many applied and vocational programs offer an AAS degree.
The type of degree matters if you’re planning to transfer into a bachelor’s program. Colleges normally offer fewer transfer credits for an AAS degree.
A bachelor’s degree prepares you for many career paths. You’ll generally spend four years earning a bachelor’s degree at a college or university. You’ll take general education classes and courses in your major . You can also choose a minor.
Some colleges offer accelerated bachelor’s programs , which take less time — often 2-3 years. Degree-completion programs can also speed up the timeline by awarding you credit for previous college coursework.
You can earn your bachelor’s degree online as well. An online degree from an accredited college meets the same standards as that of an in-person degree.
You’ll need a high school diploma for admission and may also need to submit SAT or ACT scores.
What can you do with a bachelor’s degree.
In diverse industries like business, tech, and education, a bachelor’s degree can prepare you for many entry-level careers. Some of the highest-paying jobs with a bachelor’s degree include roles in finance, management, and tech.
Graduates with a four-year degree can also benefit from high demand in many lucrative fields, like software development and engineering. The table below introduces some popular jobs with a bachelor’s degree.

The two most popular degrees are a BA and a BS. These degrees cover all arts and sciences majors and some education and engineering degrees.
A master’s degree can help you gain specialized skills and qualify for higher-paying roles. As a graduate student, you’ll work closely with experts in your field to explore advanced topics.
While a master’s degree typically takes two years, some universities offer accelerated one-year master’s programs. You can also enroll in a bachelor’s-to-master’s program to earn both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in less time.
Most master’s programs require a minimum of 30 credits. Admission and graduation requirements vary depending on the program. For example, many arts and sciences master’s programs require GRE scores , while business programs typically require GMAT scores .
What can you do with a master’s degree.
With a master’s degree, you can qualify for management-level careers and specialized roles in industries like healthcare, research, and social services. The highest-paying master’s degrees include MBAs and nurse practitioner degrees.

Here are some of the most common types of master’s degrees you can earn:
An MA and an MS are among the most popular master’s degrees. Humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences fields typically award an MA or an MS. Other popular options include an MBA and an M.Ed.
A doctorate represents the highest degree you can get in academia. There are a few types of doctoral degrees you can get.
Professional doctorates train you for a professional career. For example, law school and med school are two common professional paths. A Ph.D., on the other hand — by far one of the most common types of doctorates — emphasizes theory and research.
In a doctoral program, you’ll take graduate-level seminars and courses, take comprehensive exams, conduct original research, and defend a dissertation in front of a faculty committee.
Most applied doctorates take 3-5 years, while a Ph.D. typically requires 4-6 years of coursework. In certain fields, you can earn your doctorate online.
Some doctoral programs require a master’s degree for admission, whereas others admit applicants with just a bachelor’s degree. You may need to submit standardized test scores depending on the program.
What can you do with a doctorate.
If you want to become a physician , professor , or lawyer, you’ll need a doctorate. In many fields, a doctorate translates into higher salaries. Lawyers, pharmacists , and physicists all report median salaries of over $125,000 per year, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).
The following table shows the earning potential and demand for popular doctoral degree jobs.

A doctorate is the highest education level, but there are still several types of doctoral degrees. Here are some of the most common you can get:
A Ph.D. is the most popular doctorate. You can earn a Ph.D. in many arts and sciences fields. Other doctorates take their names from the career path associated with the degree.
What are the four types of college degrees.
The four types of college degrees are associate degrees, bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees, and doctoral degrees. Colleges classify associate and bachelor’s degrees as undergraduate degrees and master’s and doctoral degrees as graduate degrees.
Within those categories, you can earn many types of degrees. For instance, at the bachelor’s level, you could earn a bachelor of arts (BA), a bachelor of science (BS), or a bachelor of fine arts (BFA) degree.
A four-year college degree is called a bachelor’s degree. Another term for this degree type is a baccalaureate degree.
Many careers require a bachelor’s degree for entry-level roles. For example, most careers in business require you to hold a bachelor’s degree. Many roles in tech, education, the public sector, and engineering also require you to have a four-year degree.
Some career paths require a specific major. In many states, you’ll need a bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) to become a registered nurse . In other fields, your specific major matters less than the quality of your skills.
The highest degree is a doctorate, also called a doctoral degree. In terms of university degree levels, both master’s and bachelor’s degrees rank below doctorates.
You can earn a doctorate in a wide array of fields, including the social sciences, business, the humanities, education, engineering, and healthcare.
In some fields, however, a master’s degree represents the terminal, or highest, degree. For instance, a master of fine arts (MFA) is the terminal degree for creative writing.
Most would agree that the hardest college degree is a doctorate. As the highest education level, a doctorate requires significant expertise in the field.
Many Ph.D. programs take six years or more and require you to write a book-length dissertation based on original research.
Because a doctorate represents the top of the university degree levels, it’s a relatively uncommon degree. Only around 2% of U.S. adults held a doctorate in 2022, according to the U.S. Census Bureau .
The fastest degree you can get is either a one-year associate degree or a one-year master’s degree. While other types of degrees typically take a minimum of two years, you can earn a master’s degree in one year with an accelerated or fast-track program.
You can sometimes add a master’s degree to your bachelor’s through a 4+1 program, also known as a bachelor’s-to-master’s program. In this case, some of your coursework counts toward both your undergraduate and graduate degrees, meaning you’ll spend an additional year in college to leave with a master’s degree.
