23 Award Speech: And the Winner is…

An award trophy

People in leadership have the privilege of recognizing the achievement of others by giving them awards.  This is an important moment, and you want to help make it special. In this chapter, I will teach you the five-step process on how to give an award, I will share with you practical things to think about in terms of setup and execution, and finally, I will share with you ways to elevate this speech to a professional level.

Ceremonial Speaking Wheel

speech on award ceremony

All ceremonial speeches should include the trio –narration, magnification, and identification.

Identification

You are not talking to an audience; you are sharing with an audience. You are celebrating with them and collectively celebrating shared values and shared appreciation for their accomplishments. Saying “we” are here to honor the recipient and reminding the audience of shared values helps the audience to be a part of the process.

The use of story helps the audience to be drawn in and want to listen. The narration can be about the organization, how the award was formed, or about the person receiving the award. It is better to tell a story of a complex problem they solved instead of saying “they are a good problem solver.”

Magnification

Take a trait of the individual and magnify it. I’m not talking about superfluous embellishment; I’m talking about honest elaboration. If they discovered an accounting mistake, talk about the difficulty of noticing such a mistake, and talk about the financial impact on the group because the correction was made. In short, find heroism in events where others might not notice. Magnification means finding the extraordinary which is often hidden:  loyalty, work ethic, going the extra mile, and standing up under adversity. Let us truly see the person’s accomplishments with a bright spotlight, not just a little candlelight.

Now you know of the key elements that should be in your speech, let’s talk about the specific five-step structure of an award speech.

Five-Step Award Process

Greet the audience.

Welcome the audience to the event. Thank them for attending and address any special guests or sponsors.

Describe the Award

Open your speech with a greeting and then describe the award. Tell about the organization that is giving the award and why this award was created. Who founded this award? What’s the story behind the award? What makes this award unique?  Describe the criteria for selecting a winner. Who decides? What are the criteria?

Tell Why They Deserved the Award

Describe the attributes of the person who will be receiving the award.  If possible, tell a story about the person. The more details, the better. People who come to awards ceremonies like to be inspired and they like to feel included. The more you can make everyone feel like they are part of something special, the better your speech will be. This is the most important part of the award. Make the recipient feel special by telling stories of their achievements and calling out specific highlights of their achievements.

If there are multiple recipients for the same award, for example, awards for everyone who completed upper-level training, you can highlight the task they had to do to receive the recognition. You can tell a story about one part of the training that will be familiar to those who completed it.

Present the Award

Announce the person’s name who will be receiving the award.  Consider writing yourself a note on how to pronounce the name.  Find out in advance their preferred name and if you should use an honorific. As they approach to claim the award, be sure that they know where they are supposed to stand. If you didn’t tell them before the presentation, you should indicate in some way where they should go and what they should do. Do they stand beside you or somewhere else? Will there be a handshake? Do they hold the award? Do they grab the award and go or do they stay while you talk about them? This is their moment, and you don’t want to make them feel awkward because they don’t know what they are supposed to do.

Present the award to them with a handshake and a smile. Be sure to pause so the photographers can take a picture.

Wish Them Well

While they are still upfront, give a statement that wishes them well. This is done most effectively when it is connected to the theme of the award. If it is a sales award, make reference to sales, if it is a teaching award, make reference to teaching, if it is an academic award, make reference to how they will use their academics.

Practical Mechanics

You have your speech written and you are setting up the room where you will give the award. It is time to think of some very practical things like the location of the award, the location of the handshake, and the location of the photographer.

Location of the Award

Where are you going to set the award?  If there are multiple awards, you will likely need to set up a table and have someone help pass out the awards.  Before the event, you should have someone pretend to get an award to help you figure out any potential issues.

Location of the Handshake

Where are you going to do the handshake? When they come up and receive the award, are you going to shake their hand and give them the award or will another distinguished leader give the award and the handshake? If you are standing behind the podium, it is hard to shake hands and get a good photo, so it will be important that you step in front of the podium or off to the side for the handshake.

Location of the Photographer

Where are you going to have the photographer stand? In high-profile awards, there may be a professional photographer who requires a special setup. Always be mindful of where they will be located and make sure they don’t block the view from the other guests. In addition, most people will have family, friends, colleagues in the audience who will want a picture. Make sure you have an aisle clear, so photo takers have a clear view. Write yourself a note to pause and let the pictures be taken.

Handshake Matters

  • Shake with the right hand.
  • Hand the award with the left hand.
  • The award or certificate goes on top.
  • Pause, smile, and face the camera.

Handshake tips.  When people get nervous, their hands may get sweaty. Keep a tissue in your pocket to wipe your hand on just in case. When you go in to shake someone’s hand open your hand wide and go in for the web of skin between the thumb and pointer finger. A typical handshake is two to three pumps, but an award handshake is typically two pumps and a long pause while pictures are being taken.

Taking it to the Next Level

To elevate the quality of your speech, add advanced language devices sometimes called colorful language. Let’s talk about the three main types that can make you sound like a speech professional–Theme, alliteration, and parallel construction.

More on using colorful language in a speech.

Alliteration: Repeat the same sound three times

  • Jake is polished, practical, and professional
  • LaShay’s got grit and goes after things that impact

Parallel Construction: Repeat the same phrase at least three times.

  • Passionate about students…
  • Passionate about learning…
  • Passionate about teaching…

Theme: Pick a theme that fits the person and the award

  • Accounting is his life.
  • He can multiply his impact.
  • The bottom line is…
  • When you look at his character, it all adds up.

Remember, your award speech is not about you– it is about the recipient and people who care about them. It is about creating a celebratory atmosphere where the audience and the recipient can feel good.  Doing the work it takes to write the speech well will make a big difference. The joy you will feel from making someone else feel special will be its own reward.

Key Takeaways

Remember this!

  • The more details about why the person deserves this award the better.
  • Include identification, narration, and magnification.
  • Practice your handshake and how to hand the award to the recipient.
  • Tell them what the award is, tell them why they deserve the award, give them the award, wish them well.

How to Give an Award Presentation Speech (Example Included!)

Professional delivering award speech

Profile Picture

Congratulations! Chances are that if you're reading this article, you have been named an award recipient for an accomplishment or are involved with bestowing an award to others. Either way, in the work context, you should aim for a professional yet enjoyable speech.

People often focus on whatever the person getting the award is going to say about it. Less mentioned is the speech given beforehand by the award presenter. However, this is also a very important and prestigious job.

After all, the presenter is tasked with setting the mood of the event, giving context to the honor being awarded and introducing them in an engaging way. Writing and delivering a killer presentation speech takes time, thought, and preparation. It's no small feat!

Feeling nervous about it? Here's how to write and deliver a speech presenting an award—or receiving one.

How to write an award presentation speech

When writing your speech, try to strike a balance between covering the necessary information—like the details of the award and the accomplishments of the person being honored—and keeping your audience interested.

Break down the components of the speech in an outline at first to make sure you hit everything you want to say.

1. Begin with a captivating opener

This is an opportunity to put some personal flair into your speech. Know your audience. Start with a joke or a funny anecdote, if it's appropriate. If not, you might start with a personal memory or connection to the person being awarded. The opening of a presentation award speech is your moment to set the tone and grab the audience's attention.

2. Give some background

Give some context to the award you're presenting. How much or how little is up to you, your organization and the setting, but it's important to ground the speech in why the event is happening. Did someone specific fund this award? When and for what reason? What does it represent? What kind of qualities does it recognize in the person who receives it?

If you have a personal connection to the award or the person receiving it, you may mention it here. Are you a past winner of this same award? Is the person receiving it one of your employees or close friends? You can use this as an opportunity to transition into introducing the person and their work.

4. Talk about the awardee's work

Next, introduce the work or qualifications of the person being awarded. Talk about the work that stood out to the organization or committee presenting this honor to them. How does their work relate or contribute to the wider cause?

You could mention other awards they have won in the past or a memory or anecdote about the person being honored if you have a personal connection with them. You may also have a bio of theirs to read, if they specified how they wanted to be introduced.

Either way, put a good portion of your time and thought into this part of your speech. Your job is to present this award to this specific person, so put intention and energy into representing them and their accomplishments well. Though they may have a long and prestigious resume , try to keep it relatively short. Hit the highlights and the most relevant information to the occasion.

5. Keep it on the short side

You have a good bit of information to cover in order to give a heartfelt, personalized speech, but try your best to keep it fairly brief. You don't want to overshadow the person getting the award by taking too much time away from their acceptance speech or lose your audience halfway through.

Practice your speech, and time yourself when you do. This will ensure you're keeping things concise and including everything you wanted to say. Decide whether you're going to memorize your speech or if you're going to have notecards or a written copy. Practice however you're going to deliver it to make sure you've got it down.

Presenting an award: Speech template

Now let's put all these tips into practice. To start, here's a template of an award presentation speech that is pretty standard and can be used in many different types of recognizations.

[Good morning/evening/night] folks,

It is with great pleasure that I join you here today to present the [title of award] on behalf of [your company]. This is the [number] year this award has been presented, and it remains one of the highest honors in this field, recognizing the person in our community whose work has had a truly outstanding [type of outcome or impact the award winner's work caused].

As a committee member, I can tell you that the nominees this year were some of the most [qualities of the nominees] people I've had the pleasure of knowing. However, one person stood out for their remarkable career in this field.

They have made an inestimable contribution to our community over their [time the award winner works for the company] of work in our [your work field], working to [their goals, passion/goals or what they work for]. They have gone on to become an example in [what this person does in their field + achievements].

I have had the absolute honor of working closely with this person throughout their career, and I cannot be happier to see them honored here tonight. Without further ado, the [title of award] goes to [name of the winner]. Please join me in welcoming them to the stage.

Presenting an award: Speech example

Want to see the template come to life? This example of an award presentation speech shows you how to fill in the blanks and serves as a guide for writing your own.

Good evening folks,

It is with great pleasure that I join you here today to present the Outstanding Achievement Award for Social Service on behalf of The Zyx Company. This is the 25th year this award has been presented, and it remains one of the highest honors in this field, recognizing the person in our community whose work has had a truly outstanding impact in the lives of many.

As a committee member, I can tell you that the nominees this year were some of the most incredible, hardworking and compassionate people I've had the pleasure of knowing. However, one person stood out for their remarkable career in this field.

They have made an inestimable contribution to our community over their 20 years of work in our public school systems, working to improve the lives of our students and future leaders. They have gone on to become an example in social work and innovation in combating homelessness and worked tirelessly to obtain greater resources for people in marginalized communities.

I have had the absolute honor of working closely with this person throughout their career, and I cannot be happier to see them honored here tonight. Without further ado, the Outstanding Achievement Award for Social Service goes to Jill Smith. Please join me in welcoming them to the stage.

How do you give a speech after receiving an award?

What about if you're on the other side of the award presentation? Writing an award acceptance speech is also an art. Similarly, you want to plan ahead and make sure you hit certain points within your speech.

Receiving an award is an incredible honor and can be exciting or overwhelming, so you want to do the preparation beforehand in order to say what you want to say.

"Thank the Academy" and others

You want to be sure to thank the people involved in giving you this award. This list includes the organization or committee presenting it to you and the presenter, as well as anyone who you feel helped to get you where you are today. We've all seen heartfelt, lengthy thank you lists delivered over Academy Awards and Emmys.

This is a common factor in awards speeches for a reason. No one achieves their success without help from people who believe in them. Identify who you want to shout out during your speech, and if you need to, make a physical list so you don't leave anyone out.

Share a bit about your work

Share a bit of your work and why you're proud of it. Are there any lessons your road to this award has taught you? What aspect of what you do are you most excited to share with the world, and why do you think it's important?

Make a statement

If you feel compelled to do so, use the platform you have during your acceptance speech to make a statement about a larger social or political issue pertaining to your work. Is there a cause you're particularly passionate about? What do you want to say and promote through this moment?

Watch the time

There might be time constraints on your speech as well. Either way, try not to make it too lengthy. Have a plan, rehearse and be ready to say what you planned to say.

Final thoughts

Whether you're presenting an award or receiving one, preparation is essential in order to deliver a thoughtful speech. Make sure you do your research, know what you want to say and practice ahead of time so that, when the day comes, you're ready to go.

Awards ceremonies can be exciting and moving events, and often it's the speeches that make or break them. Take on this responsibility with excitement, and put time and thought into your presentation.

If you’ve recently won an award — congratulations! There’s a good chance that a lot of hard work and blood, sweat, and tears went into the recognition you’re about to receive. Now, your biggest task is nailing the perfect award acceptance speed. After all, it’s important to show gratitude for the honor while also ensuring that your words will touch hearts and minds and hopefully inspire others to follow in your footsteps. But have no fear — we’re here to help.

From heartfelt gratitude to powerful storytelling, these examples showcase the key elements that make an acceptance speech unforgettable. No matter whether you’re leading a company, launching startups, writing books, teaching students, coaching teams, or giving advice as a consultant—there’s plenty for you to learn when it comes to crafting the perfect acceptance speech.

How to Give A Pitch-Perfect Award Acceptance Speech

Your award is a huge accomplishment that deserves to be celebrated. But before you start popping the champagne, there’s one more thing you need to do: prepare your acceptance speech.

While you could just say thanks and be done with it, doing so is a disservice to those who helped you get where you are. After all, an acceptance speech is so much more than just a simple thank you. It’s an opportunity to not just express your genuine gratitude, but also to acknowledge why the award is important and share the glory with those who helped you along the way.

Express Genuine Gratitude and Emotion

First and foremost, an acceptance speech is a chance to express your heartfelt appreciation for the honor you’ve received. This isn’t the time to be modest or downplay your achievements. Let your emotions shine through and show how much the award means to you.

Take a cue from Sandra Bullock’s acceptance speech at the 2010 Oscars. She was visibly moved as she thanked her mother, Helga B., along with all “the moms that take care of the babies and the children no matter where they come from.”

Acknowledge Why It Is Important

Beyond expressing gratitude, your acceptance speech should also acknowledge why the award is significant. What does it represent? Explain how the award is a reflection of your personal principles or highlights where you would like make changes professionally.

For example, when Malala Yousafzai accepted the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014, she used her acceptance speech to highlight the importance of education and the ongoing fight for women’s rights. “This award is not just for me,” she said. “It is for those forgotten children who want education. It is for those frightened children who want peace. It is for those voiceless children who want change.”

Share the Glory

Finally, a great acceptance speech shares the spotlight with those who helped make your success possible. This could be your family, your team, your mentors, or even your fans.

When Taylor Swift won Album of the Year at the 2016 Grammys, she made sure to thank her collaborators and supporters. “I want to thank the fans for the last ten years and the recording academy for giving us this unbelievable honor,” she said. “I want to thank all of my collaborators that you see on this stage.”

So as you’re crafting your own award acceptance speech, remember to express genuine gratitude, acknowledge the significance of the honor, and share the glory with those who helped you along the way. With these elements in place, you’ll deliver a speech that not only thanks the right people but inspires and uplifts your audience as well.

Writing Your Acceptance Speech

You’ve just been honored with a prestigious award and now it’s time to give your acceptance speech. It’s crunch time to create a moment that sticks and sparks motivation in everyone. But where do you even begin?

Crafting an excellent award acceptance speech takes some planning and preparation. You want to strike the right tone, share a meaningful message, and of course, express your heartfelt gratitude. Let’s walk through crafting an acceptance speech that’ll definitely make a mark.

Brainstorm Ideas

Before you start jotting down your speech, take some time to reflect on what this award means to you. Why is it significant? What does it represent in terms of your journey, your values, or your aspirations? Brainstorm some key themes or stories you might want to touch on.

In addition, ask yourself: “What challenges did you overcome? Who helped you along the way? What lessons did you learn? What impact do you hope to make with this recognition?” Your answers to these questions will form the bulk of your acceptance speech.

Write Your Speech

With your brainstorming done, it’s time to start putting pen to paper. Begin with a strong opening line that will grab your audience’s attention. You might share a surprising fact, a thought-provoking question, or even a touch of humor.

As you write the body of your speech, keep in mind the time constraint you’re working with. Most acceptance speeches are fairly short, so you’ll need to be selective about what you include. Focus on a few key points or anecdotes that support your central theme.

Be Specific in Your Speech

When it comes to expressing your gratitude, it’s important to be specific. Don’t just rattle off a generic list of thank-yous. Take the time to acknowledge the individuals or organizations that have played a significant role in your success.

For example, in her Golden Globes acceptance speech , Oprah Winfrey specifically thanked the Hollywood Foreign Press Association as well as several other key individuals by name.

The Power of Storytelling in Your Acceptance Speech

One of the most effective ways to make your acceptance speech memorable is by incorporating storytelling. Share a personal anecdote or experience that relates to your journey or the significance of the award.

Again, consider Oprah Winfrey’s Golden Globes acceptance speech. In it, she opens with a story from her childhood, when she sat on the floor watching Sidney Poitier become the first African American to ever win a Golden Globe. As she states in her speech, “I have tried many, many times to explain what a moment like that means to a little girl…and it is not lost on me that at this moment, there are some little girls watching as I become the first black woman to be given this same award.” With the power of storytelling, Winfrey highlights the men and women who have sought truth and justice no matter the personal cost.

As you craft your award acceptance speech, remember to brainstorm ideas, be specific in your gratitude, and harness the power of storytelling. Remember, just like the acceptance speech examples we’ve looked at, your words have the power to touch hearts and spark change in those listening.

Preparing to Deliver Your Speech

You’ve written a fantastic award acceptance speech, filled with heartfelt gratitude and inspiring stories. Now, it’s showtime. However, public speaking can be nerve-wracking, even for the most seasoned professionals. That’s why the key to a successful speech delivery is preparation. You want to be confident, polished, and engaging when you step up to the podium. Here are some tips to help you get ready for your big moment.

Rehearsing Your Speech

One of the best ways to calm your nerves and boost your confidence is by practicing your speech beforehand. Read it out loud several times, paying attention to your pacing, tone, body language , and emphasis. Consider practicing in front of a mirror or recording yourself so you can see and hear how you come across. In addition, grabbing a buddy or work pal to listen in can provide you feedback for improvement. Remember, the more familiar you are with your speech, the more natural and effortless it will feel when you deliver it for real.

Making Your Speech Memorable

When it comes to making your speech memorable, it’s all about connecting with your audience. Use eye contact, facial expressions, and gestures to engage them and convey your emotions.

You might also consider incorporating a memorable phrase or tagline that encapsulates your message. For example, in his famous “I Have a Dream” speech, Martin Luther King, Jr. repeated the phrase “I have a dream” eight times, driving home his vision for a more just and equal society.

Respecting the Audience and the Clock

When delivering your acceptance speech, it’s important to be mindful of your audience and the time allotted. Express your gratitude sincerely, but avoid gushing or going overboard with your thank-yous. Similarly, respect the time limit you’ve been given. A short award acceptance speech is often more impactful than a long, rambling one. Aim to deliver your message concisely and powerfully, leaving your audience wanting more.

As you prepare to deliver your award acceptance speech, remember to rehearse thoroughly, focus on making it memorable, and respect your audience and the clock. With this game plan ready, stepping up to speak will feel a lot less daunting.

Avoiding Common Pitfalls in an Acceptance Speech

As you’ve seen from the examples above, a great award acceptance speech has the power to move and inspire an audience. But what goes into crafting and delivering a truly impactful speech? Here are a few final tips to keep in mind as you prepare for your big moment.

General Guidelines

While it’s important to express your gratitude and share your story, there are a few common pitfalls to avoid in your acceptance speech:

  • Don’t ramble or go off-topic. Stay focused on your central message.
  • Avoid clichés or generic platitudes. Be specific and authentic in your language.
  • Don’t forget to thank the important people, but keep your list of thank-yous concise.
  • Avoid inside jokes or references that may not resonate with your entire audience.

By steering clear of these pitfalls, you’ll ensure that your speech is clear, meaningful, and memorable.

Avoid Going Overboard with Emotions in Your Speech

When that award is finally in your hands, feeling a rush of emotions isn’t just common; it’s expected. This is particularly true if the honor marks a major highlight in either your work or personal journey. However, it’s important to strike a balance between showing genuine emotion and maintaining your composure.

While a few tears or a quavering voice can be powerful, going overboard with your emotions may distract from your message or make your audience uncomfortable. Aim to express your feelings in a way that is authentic but still allows you to deliver your speech effectively.

Remember, your award acceptance speech is an opportunity to share your gratitude, your story, and your vision with the world. By avoiding common pitfalls and finding the right emotional balance, you’ll be able to deliver a speech that truly resonates with your audience and leaves a lasting impact.

Potential Challenges To Avoid When Implementing A Rewards and Recognition Program

1. lack of clarity and consistency in criteria.

The success of a rewards and recognition program depends on clearly defined and consistent criteria for determining who is eligible for recognition and what types of rewards are available. Failing to establish and communicate these criteria can lead to confusion and dissatisfaction among employees . It is essential to ensure that the criteria are fair, transparent, and aligned with organizational goals.

2. Inadequate communication and feedback

Effective communication is crucial when implementing a rewards and recognition program. Employees need to understand the purpose of the program, how it works, and what is expected of them to be eligible for recognition. Regular feedback is also vital to ensure that employees understand why they are being recognized and to reinforce positive behaviors. Without proper communication and feedback, employees may feel undervalued or uncertain about the program's objectives.

3. Limited variety and personalization of rewards

Offering a limited range of rewards or failing to personalize them to individual preferences can diminish the impact of a rewards and recognition program. Different employees may value different types of rewards, whether it's financial incentives, professional development opportunities, or public recognition. It is important to consider individual preferences and offer a variety of rewards that align with employees' needs and aspirations.

4. Lack of alignment with organizational values

A rewards and recognition program should align with the core values and goals of an organization. If the program does not reflect the organization's values or reinforce behaviors that contribute to its success, it may be perceived as inauthentic or disconnected from the broader objectives. It is essential to design a program that supports the desired culture and drives employee engagement and performance in a way that aligns with the organization's mission and values.

5. Failure to recognize team efforts

While recognizing individual achievements is important, it is equally crucial to acknowledge and reward team accomplishments. Neglecting to recognize the contributions of teams can create a sense of competition and undermine collaboration, which are essential for overall organizational success. Incorporate team-based rewards and recognition initiatives to foster a sense of camaraderie and motivate collective efforts.

6. Inconsistent and infrequent recognition

Recognition should be timely and consistent to be effective. Delayed or infrequent recognition can diminish its impact and may lead to a decrease in employee motivation. Establish a regular cadence for recognition and ensure that it is provided promptly when deserved. Consistency in recognizing achievements will help reinforce positive behaviors and maintain employee engagement.

7. Lack of management support and involvement

The success of a rewards and recognition program relies heavily on the support and involvement of management. If leaders do not actively participate or demonstrate enthusiasm for the program, employees may perceive it as insignificant or insincere. It is crucial to engage managers at all levels and empower them to recognize and reward employees' achievements. Managers should serve as role models and champions of the program to foster a culture of appreciation and recognition.

Implementing a rewards and recognition program can be a powerful tool for motivating employees, increasing engagement, and driving organizational success. By addressing and avoiding these potential challenges and pitfalls, organizations can create a program that effectively recognizes and rewards employees for their contributions and accomplishments.

Best Practices for Implementing A Rewards and Recognition Program

Implementing a rewards and recognition program is a crucial step in fostering employee engagement, motivation, and loyalty within an organization. It requires careful planning and execution to ensure its effectiveness. We will explore the best practices for implementing a successful rewards and recognition program.

1. Clearly Define Program Objectives

Before implementing a rewards and recognition program, it is essential to define clear objectives. This involves identifying the behaviors, achievements, or contributions that will be rewarded, as well as the desired outcomes of the program. By clearly defining program objectives, organizations can align the program with their overall business goals and ensure its relevance and effectiveness.

2. Align Rewards with Employee Preferences

To ensure the success of a rewards and recognition program, it is important to align the rewards with the preferences and aspirations of employees. Conducting surveys or focus groups can help gather employee feedback and identify the types of rewards that would motivate and resonate with them the most. This could include monetary incentives, non-monetary rewards, or a combination of both.

3. Make the Recognition Timely and Specific

Recognition should be timely and specific to have a lasting impact on employee motivation and morale. It is important to recognize and reward employees promptly after they have achieved the desired behaviors or accomplishments. Recognition should be specific, highlighting the specific actions or contributions that led to the recognition. This helps reinforce desired behaviors and demonstrates the value placed on those actions.

4. Foster a Culture of Peer-to-Peer Recognition

In addition to formal recognition from managers or supervisors, organizations should encourage peer-to-peer recognition. This creates a positive and inclusive work environment where employees feel valued and appreciated by their colleagues. Implementing a platform or system for employees to easily recognize and appreciate each other's efforts can enhance teamwork, collaboration, and overall employee satisfaction.

5. Communicate and Promote the Program

Effective communication and promotion of the rewards and recognition program are essential for its success. Organizations should clearly communicate the program's objectives, eligibility criteria, and rewards to all employees. This can be done through email announcements, intranet postings, or even in-person meetings. Regular reminders and updates about the program can help maintain awareness and encourage participation.

6. Ensure Fairness and Transparency

A successful rewards and recognition program should be perceived as fair and transparent by employees. The criteria for eligibility and selection of recipients should be clearly communicated and consistently applied. To build trust and credibility, it is important to ensure that the program is free from favoritism or bias. Regular evaluations of the program's effectiveness and fairness can help identify any areas for improvement.

7. Measure and Track Results

To evaluate the effectiveness of a rewards and recognition program, it is important to measure and track its results. This can be done through employee surveys, performance metrics, or feedback sessions. By analyzing the data, organizations can identify any gaps or areas for improvement and make necessary adjustments to enhance the program's impact.

By following these best practices, organizations can implement a rewards and recognition program that effectively motivates and engages employees. This, in turn, leads to increased productivity, employee satisfaction, and overall organizational success. Implementing a well-designed program that aligns with the organization's goals and employee preferences is crucial for achieving these desired outcomes.

Mastering presenter speech for award ceremonies, ace your presenter speech for award ceremonies.

Have you ever been to an award ceremony and felt that the presenter’s speech was a bit lackluster? If so, you know how important it is for the presenter to deliver a captivating speech that engages the audience and honors the awardee. An award presentation speech should be well-crafted, informative, and inspiring, leaving the audience with a sense of awe. In this blog post, we will cover all the key elements of an effective award presentation speech, including how to craft a captivating opener, provide background on the award and its significance, highlight the awardee’s accomplishments, and maintain brevity and engagement throughout. We’ll also share some tips on how to write an impressive presentation speech by knowing your audience, gathering relevant information about the awardee, and practicing your delivery. Finally, we’ll share examples of award presentation speeches gone right (and wrong) so that you can learn from others’ experiences.

Understanding the Purpose of an Award Presentation Speech

Honoring the recipient’s achievements is pivotal in an award presentation speech, capturing the audience’s attention from the onset. The speech should emphasize the honor and purpose of the award while expressing gratitude to the recipient, audience, and organizers. Additionally, it should inspire both the audience and the recipient, making it a momentous occasion. Incorporating these elements will make the award speech a memorable highlight of the ceremony.

The Role of a Presenter in an Award Ceremony

The presenter’s speech at an award ceremony plays a pivotal role in setting the tone for the event, demanding a high level of public speaking finesse. It serves as an introduction to the award recipient, encapsulating their name, achievements, and the purpose of the award. The speech also acts as a means of honoring the award recipient, encompassing elements of a speech giving an award to someone, an acceptance speech, and an award acceptance speech , all combined into one. Additionally, it presents an opportunity to underline the award’s purpose, the kinds of achievements it celebrates, and the individual’s significant contributions. The presentation speech template should be designed to captivate the audience, culminating in a high note, similar to giving an award to someone speech, introduction speech for award recipient, and award presentation speech, ending with a bang.

The Importance of a Well-Crafted Presentation Speech

Crafting an award presentation speech demands the emcee’s skill to sustain audience engagement within the time limit, ensuring a captivating speech until the end. The speech sets the stage for the award recipient’s heartfelt acceptance speech, requiring the emcee’s finesse in captivating the audience’s attention. Utilizing a presentation speech pdf, YouTube, or an anecdote can enhance the speech’s impact, expressing gratitude, honor, and the award’s purpose.

Key Elements of an Effective Award Presentation Speech

Crafting an effective award presentation speech involves seamlessly integrating key elements to engage the audience. The speech should include an award presentation, acceptance speech, and introduction of the award recipient in a concise yet impactful manner. It is essential to honor the recipient’s achievements and the purpose of the award while maintaining the audience’s attention. Incorporating gratitude and a thoughtful ending further enriches the overall presentation. Utilizing a well-crafted presentation speech template with NLP terms such as award speech, certificate, and trophies can enhance its effectiveness.

Crafting a Captivating Opener

Crafting the opening of an award presentation speech sets the stage for honoring the recipient’s achievements and the award’s purpose. The emcee’s introduction must capture the audience’s attention and engage them to honor the recipient. It should establish the purpose of the award and the achievements of the recipient. Crafting this opener is crucial for laying the groundwork for the award presentation and acceptance speech, ensuring lasting impact.

Providing Background on the Award and its Significance

Crafting an award presentation speech’s background involves expressing gratitude and outlining the purpose of the award, the recipient’s achievements, and the award’s scope. The emcee’s speech’s background should offer insight into the award’s purpose, the recipient’s achievements, and the award’s scope. It should also honor the recipient and express gratitude. This sets the stage for a memorable presentation that encapsulates the significance of the award and the accomplishments of the recipient.

Highlighting the Awardee’s Accomplishments

Focusing on the recipient’s achievements, name, award purpose, and scope is crucial in the award presentation speech. The emcee’s task is to honor the award recipient by delivering a speech that highlights the individual’s accomplishments. This involves addressing the audience and emphasizing the significance of the award, ensuring engagement and recognition. A well-crafted presentation speech effectively conveys the awardee’s achievements, sparking audience interest and involvement.

Maintaining Brevity and Engagement

In crafting an award presentation speech, it’s essential to maintain brevity while ensuring audience engagement. Focus on expressing gratitude, outlining the award’s purpose, and highlighting the recipient’s achievements. Emphasize the significance of the award and the individual’s contributions. Practicing the speech is crucial for a polished delivery, allowing you to connect with the audience effectively. This ensures that your award speech remains concise yet impactful, leaving a lasting impression.

Steps to Writing an Impressive Award Presentation Speech

Crafting an award speech involves understanding the audience, gathering pertinent details about the recipient, and rehearsing for effective delivery. Knowing the audience helps tailor the speech, while collecting information about the awardee ensures a personalized and meaningful presentation. Practice is key to refining the speech and exuding confidence during delivery. Incorporating these steps will result in a memorable and impactful award presentation speech. Emphasizing the significance of the award and the accomplishments of the recipient will resonate with the audience.

Knowing Your Audience

Understanding the interests and preferences of your audience is crucial for delivering an impactful award speech. Tailoring your content to resonate with the audience enhances engagement and connection. Consider their expectations, knowledge about the awardee, and the tone they would appreciate. Adapting the speech to appeal to the specific audience further elevates the impact of the presenter’s message. Acknowledging the audience’s presence through personalized references and relevant anecdotes fosters a deeper connection.

Gathering Relevant Information about the Awardee

Personalizing the award speech involves gathering pertinent information about the awardee’s achievements, contributions, and impact. Tailoring the speech to the recipient’s professional journey and accolades adds a special touch. Emphasizing the recipient’s unique accomplishments and extra mile efforts creates a memorable experience. Highlighting their first-time achievements and significant contributions to the field captures the audience’s attention. This personalized approach ensures that the award speech resonates with the recipient and the audience.

Practicing the Speech for Better Delivery

Practice makes perfect when delivering an award speech. Rehearsing ensures confidence and fluency, maintaining an engaging pace and incorporating pauses for emphasis. It’s crucial to adjust the speech to the time limit, keeping it impactful. Seeking feedback refines the delivery for a polished presentation, ensuring the speech resonates with the audience. Practicing the speech is the key to delivering an award-winning presentation.

Examples of Award Presentation Speeches

Crafting an introduction that honors the award recipient’s achievements is key to engaging the audience. Express gratitude and enthusiasm in delivering the award presentation speech, structuring the acceptance speech to honor the significance of the award. Engage the audience by sharing a personalized anecdote, and conclude with an uplifting ending to inspire both the recipient and the audience.

What Can Go Wrong in a Presentation Speech and How to Avoid It?

Common pitfalls to avoid in a presentation speech include overshadowing the recipient’s achievements, rushing through the speech, using generic content, employing excessive jargon, and neglecting to plan for technical issues. By being mindful of these challenges, you can deliver a polished and impactful presentation speech.

In conclusion, delivering an award-winning presenter speech requires understanding the purpose of the speech and the role of the presenter in an award ceremony. It is important to craft a well-written speech that includes a captivating opener, provides background on the award and its significance, highlights the awardee’s accomplishments, and maintains brevity and engagement. To write an impressive speech, it is essential to know your audience, gather relevant information about the awardee, and practice the speech for better delivery. By following these steps and avoiding common mistakes, you can deliver a memorable and impactful award presentation speech. Remember, your words have the power to inspire, celebrate achievements, and leave a lasting impression on the audience.

Event Planning

When it comes to event planning, a lot goes into ensuring it runs smoothly. From selecting the date and location to crafting the script, every detail needs to be carefully considered.

First, let’s start with the basics: selecting the date and location. This can often be the most difficult part of event planning, as you need to make sure everyone is available on that particular day. You also need to consider any other events that might be happening in the same area and try to avoid scheduling conflicts. Once these details are sorted out, it’s time to move on to the script.

Writing a script for an award ceremony can be quite tricky as you want it to reflect both your organization’s values and also make sure all attendees enjoy themselves. It’s important to create a balance between recognizing those who have achieved success and providing entertainment for guests. Consider adding some features such as music, drama, or comedy acts, depending on what suits your organization best.

Now that you’ve got all of the details in place, it’s time to finalize your script and get ready for your award ceremony! Make sure you go over it several times before the big day so you can iron out any issues or typos that may arise. With a well-planned script ready, your event should run smoothly, and everyone will have an enjoyable experience!

Venue Set Up

Once the script is finalized, it’s time to prepare the venue for the award ceremony. This involves setting up seating arrangements, decorations, and any other necessary items. It’s important to make sure everyone has a comfortable place to sit and that the decorations look inviting and in keeping with your organization’s brand. Additionally, you’ll want to ensure enough refreshments are available throughout the event.

To ensure everything goes smoothly on the day of the event, assign someone responsible for overseeing all of the venue setup tasks. This person should double-check that everything is in place before guests arrive and be available throughout the event in case any issues arise. It’s also a good idea to plan for any potential problems by having extra supplies at hand, just in case.

Once all of these preparations are complete, you’re ready for your award ceremony! With a well-thought-out script and a properly prepared venue, your guests will feel welcomed and entertained during their time at your event. Make sure to thank everyone involved in making it possible; after all, an award ceremony only works if everyone involved does their part!

Program Content

Now that the venue has been set up, it’s time to focus on what will be included in the program content of the award ceremony. The script should include an introduction of your organization and a brief overview of why you are hosting the event. It’s also important to recognize any special guests or honorees who will be present.

Next, you’ll want to provide details about any awards that are being handed out. This could include a description of the criteria for each award, as well as biographical information about each recipient. If you’re awarding multiple prizes, make sure you have enough time allotted for each award presentation so that all recipients get their due recognition.

Finally, it’s important to close out your event with a few words of thanks and appreciation for everyone involved. Make sure everyone knows how much your organization values their contributions and hard work by highlighting specific achievements or moments during the ceremony. When guests leave feeling appreciated and inspired, they’ll remember your event long after it ends and will be eager to come back next year!

Inviting Guests And Speakers

At this stage, it’s time to extend invitations to those who need to be present at the award ceremony. Invitees should include any special guests or honorees, as well as any speakers who will give presentations or remarks. You’ll want to make sure these individuals are aware of the event specifics, such as the date, time, and location.

It’s also important to consider inviting members of the media to cover the event. This may help increase visibility for your organization and help spread the word about your mission and goals. Be sure to provide them with all relevant information in a timely manner so that they have enough time to plan their coverage accordingly.

Finally, you’ll want to reach out to those in your organization who will be responsible for setting up the venue and coordinating other logistics for the event. Having a plan in place ahead of time is key for ensuring that everything goes smoothly on the day of the ceremony. Make sure everyone involved knows what they should be doing and when they should do it!

Emcee Instructions

Once you’ve invited all the necessary guests and speakers, you’ll need to assign someone to serve as an emcee for the ceremony. It’s important to provide thorough instructions for the person who will be in charge of introducing presenters, keeping track of time, and leading the audience through the event.

Begin by giving them a detailed rundown of the event’s agenda. This should include information such as the order in which speakers will appear and any remarks they plan to make. You’ll also want to provide specific cues on when they should introduce each speaker, such as clapping or playing a particular song.

The emcee should also be given notes on how to interact with the audience throughout the ceremony. Make sure they know how to encourage active participation from attendees and keep everyone engaged in what is happening on stage. Additionally, they should understand their role in conveying your organization’s message during their interactions with those in attendance.

It’s essential that your emcee is well-prepared before taking center stage. Be sure to review these instructions with them prior to the award ceremony so that everything goes off without a hitch!

Awards Presentation

Now that all the introductions have been made and the emcee is well-prepared, it’s time to move on to the awards presentation. This part of the ceremony is a great opportunity to recognize individuals or groups who have made significant contributions to your organization.

Start by having the emcee explain why each award recipient is being honored and what they have done to deserve recognition. Be sure to include any remarks from members of your organization about why their work has been so impactful. This will help create a more meaningful moment for everyone involved.

As you present each award, give a short speech that celebrates the accomplishments of the recipient and acknowledges their efforts. Allow them time to say a few words before moving on to the next person or group. If possible, include photos or videos that illustrate their achievements during this part of the ceremony as well.

Encourage audience applause and thank everyone for taking part in this special event. Make sure that you take a few moments at the end of the ceremony to thank all of your guests, speakers, and award recipients once again for helping make this occasion memorable!

Music And Lighting

Music and lighting play an important role in any award ceremony. The right music can set the tone and add to the overall atmosphere of the event. Lighting, on the other hand, helps create a focal point in each room and can be used to draw attention to different elements during your ceremony.

When selecting music for your event, consider what kind of mood you want to create. Do you want something upbeat or calming? Something traditional or modern? Make sure to pick songs that fit with the theme of your ceremony and reflect the accomplishments you are celebrating.

Lighting is also key to creating a memorable experience for your guests. Consider adding spotlights or up-lighting around the stage area for award presentations, or using color-changing lights for added effect. These techniques will help make your ceremony feel more professional and engaging for everyone in attendance.

No matter what type of music or lighting you select, remember that it should enhance – not overpower – the moment. When done correctly, both can be used to emphasize special moments throughout your event and create an atmosphere that celebrates success!

Timing Considerations

When planning an award ceremony, timing is a key factor to consider. It’s important to ensure that each element of your event flows smoothly and that you don’t run out of time before everyone has been recognized. Here are some tips when it comes to timing:

First, plan the order of events carefully. Schedule time for each award presentation, speeches, and any other activities. This will help you stay on track throughout the event. Consider assigning someone to keep an eye on the clock so they can alert you if you’re running behind schedule.

Second, allow ample time for questions or remarks from recipients after their awards have been presented. You want them to be able to share their thoughts with the audience without feeling rushed or pressured. Finally, be sure to leave extra time at the end of your program in case it runs longer than expected or something unexpected happens.

In summary, paying attention to timing before and during your event will help keep everything running smoothly and ensure everyone is properly recognized for their achievements.

Pre-Recorded Video Clips Or Photos

Another important element to include in your award ceremony is pre-recorded video clips or photos of each recipient. This can be a great way to add a personal touch and make the event more memorable.

When using this idea, it’s important to plan ahead and allow enough time for the videos or photos to be created before the event. Additionally, you’ll need to figure out how the videos will be displayed during the ceremony. Will they be projected on a screen? Or will you have someone manually show them one by one?

Either way, make sure that you give yourself plenty of time to test out any technical aspects of your plan prior to the event. This will help ensure that everything runs smoothly when it comes time for the awards presentation.

Additionally, if there are any long-distance recipients who won’t be able to attend in person, having their video clip or photo shown during the ceremony can help make them feel included and appreciated despite their absence.

After Party Ideas

To cap off the award ceremony in style, why not consider planning an after-party? This can be a great way to give the recipients and their guests a chance to celebrate their accomplishments and have fun.

When organizing an after party, you’ll want to think about what kind of atmosphere you’d like to create. Do you want it to be more formal or laid-back? Would it make sense to include food and drinks? Or would you prefer for everyone to just mingle and chat?

The decorations are also something to consider. You could go with something simple like balloons and streamers, or add some extra pizzazz with custom banners or light displays. These details will help create a festive atmosphere that will make the event truly memorable for your guests.

Once you’ve worked out all of these details, all that’s left is for your recipients to enjoy their well-deserved recognition—and have a great time doing it!

Frequently Asked Questions

How much should i budget for the event.

When budgeting for an event, it’s important to consider the scope of the event and what you’ll need to make it successful. There is no one-size-fits-all answer to how much you should budget for an event, but there are certain factors that can help guide your decision.

First and foremost, think about your end goal. What do you want to achieve out of this event? Depending on the scope of the outcome you’re hoping for, your budget may vary. For example, if you’re looking for a more elaborate setup with high-end decorations and catering services, that will naturally require more resources than an intimate gathering with fewer decorations and simpler snacks.

You’ll also need to think about any additional costs associated with the event. Will there be a fee for renting out a space or any other equipment? Do you need to hire performers or speakers? All of these expenses should be accounted for in order to ensure that your budget is adequate. Remember that some things may be more expensive than expected; having a bit of extra money in the budget can help cover unexpected costs.

In determining how much money should be allocated towards the event, it’s important to remember that no two events are alike. Consider all the components involved and determine what would best suit the occasion while staying within a reasonable budget. With careful planning and thoughtful consideration of all aspects involved, you’ll be able to create an enjoyable experience without breaking the bank.

What Type Of Awards Should I Present?

Deciding what type of awards to present is an essential part of planning an award ceremony. There are many different types of awards that can be given out, ranging from certificates and trophies to plaques and medals. It is important to choose the right type of award so it will be meaningful and appreciated by the recipient.

When selecting the types of awards, it’s important to consider the occasion, budget, and audience. For example, if it’s a corporate event with a large budget, a nice trophy or plaque might be appropriate. On the other hand, if it’s a school event with a limited budget, certificates may be more suitable. Additionally, you should tailor the awards according to your audience; for instance, things like medals or unique gifts might make sense for younger recipients while elegant crystal pieces may be preferred by older awardees.

It’s also important to think about how many awards you plan on giving out. Depending on how many people you plan on honoring during the ceremony, you may need multiple variations of each award type so everyone receives something special and unique. You can customize awards as well by adding logos or special messages that commemorate their achievement. It is these details that will make your award ceremony memorable and successful!

What Are Some Good Ways To Engage The Audience?

Engaging the audience is an important part of putting on a successful award ceremony. There are several things you can do to make sure your guests are entertained and involved in the event. One great way to get people involved is to have them vote on different awards or categories. This allows them to feel like they have some control over the outcome and makes the ceremony more fun for everyone.

You can also encourage participation by having people give short speeches, stories, or jokes about the winners. This will help keep people engaged and interested in what’s happening on stage. Additionally, if you have a big enough venue, you could even try hosting a game or two that involves audience members competing against each other for prizes related to the event.

Finally, music can be used as a powerful tool for engaging your audience. Consider playing some songs from popular artists who are relevant to the occasion and encouraging everyone to sing along or dance together as a group. This will create an atmosphere of unity and entertainment that will make your award ceremony unforgettable for all those involved!

How Do I Ensure The Event Runs Smoothly?

Ensuring an event runs smoothly is a priority for any organizer. It’s important to plan ahead and consider every detail for a successful outcome. There are several steps that can be taken to make sure the ceremony goes as planned.

First off, it’s beneficial to create a timeline and checklist of all the tasks that need to be completed. This will help to keep track of all the necessary details, such as setting up chairs and audio equipment, providing refreshments, or printing out programs. It’s also important to involve volunteers or staff in the process so that everyone knows what needs to be done and when.

Another way to make sure things run smoothly is to have a rehearsal before the event starts. This will help ensure that everyone involved – from speakers and performers, to technical people – knows their roles and how they should interact during the ceremony. Allowing time for a dress rehearsal will also give participants an opportunity to work out any kinks before showtime.

Finally, it’s essential to have someone who can act as coordinator on the day of the event. They should be in charge of checking that everything has been set up correctly, making sure all audio equipment is working properly, and overseeing any last-minute changes that may arise due to unforeseen circumstances. Having someone with good project management skills in this role will help ensure that the ceremony runs according to plan without any unexpected hiccups or delays.

What Do I Need To Consider When Selecting A Venue?

Selecting the right venue for an event is a crucial part of the planning process. It can mean the difference between a successful event and one that falls flat. When selecting a venue, there are several considerations to keep in mind.

First, you’ll want to ensure the venue is large enough to accommodate your guests. If you’re expecting a large crowd, it’s important to make sure the space will be able to comfortably hold everyone who will be attending. Additionally, you need to think about how accessible the venue is; if it’s not easily reached by public transport or doesn’t have plenty of parking available, this could cause problems on the day.

Next, consider any additional features that may be needed such as catering services or audio-visual equipment. You don’t want to be caught short when it comes time for the event so make sure that all necessary amenities are available at the chosen venue. Finally, take into account any restrictions on noise levels or other regulations which may apply at different venues; these need to be taken into consideration before making your final decision.

When selecting a venue for an event, it’s important to ensure that it meets all of your needs from size and accessibility through to additional amenities and regulations. Taking each of these factors into account beforehand will help guarantee that your award ceremony runs smoothly and successfully on the day.

To ensure that your award ceremony is a success, it’s important to take into account several aspects. Firstly, you need to consider your budget and decide how much you can afford for the event. Secondly, think about what type of awards you want to present and how best to engage the audience during the ceremony. Lastly, selecting an appropriate venue is key in ensuring everything runs smoothly.

Once all these elements are covered, you’ll be ready to host a successful award ceremony! With careful planning and attention to detail, you’ll be able to throw an event that everyone will remember fondly.

At the end of the day, it’s all about creating a memorable experience for everyone involved. So go ahead and create an amazing day that celebrates the people or organizations who deserve recognition – they won’t forget it!

Award Ceremony Speech to Hit Listeners’ Hearts

award ceremony speech

Ultimately, all successful award ceremony speeches have one important thing in common: they regard the event from the triumphant perspective, and the best ones are prepared ahead of time. So wondering, “How to make my award ceremony speech stand out?” Follow our guide where you’ll find some useful tips on the issue. Before you start reading this article and applying all the tips presented in it, look at the introductory part of an award ceremony speech presented below crafted for a ‘Teacher of the Year Awards’ ceremony.

Sample ‘Teacher of the Year Awards’ Ceremony Speech

Good evening to everyone! It is a big pleasure to share this night with all of you here. The Teacher of the Year Awards Ceremony is a traditional event that takes place annually in our school. Thanks to the benevolent support from the Parental Club, the awards over the last 20 years are found widely recognized and warmly saluted by winners. In this anniversary year, the Awards are separated into three categories, distinguishing teachers that have not only achieved an academic recognition but also helped their students to gain advanced results. Among our winners, there are teachers who run the most successful student projects and arrange the most effective charity activities.

All the finalists being here were selected during the strict tentative rounds grounded on a range of all-around evaluation criteria. Regardless of their majors and spheres of interests, these individuals have something essential in common – they love their job and do their best to serve the society, and thus these teachers are truly the role models for the young generation. Our thankfulness goes to all teachers for their strong efforts and support in promoting the complex personal development of the young people here, in preparing them for a future career, and mostly, in upbringing their young personalities with a faithful mind and open heart.

Also, I would like to admit the hard and honest work of our professional and experienced judges. Their activity was lasting for months and helped to make the difficult selection between “the best of the best.” Due to this painstaking work, I have the honor of congratulating all the winners of the ‘Teacher of the Year’ with their advanced achievements and outstanding personal development. I am sure that every one of you will be progressing in the future and thus contribute to the common well-being of the whole community. Always keep in your mind that your student looks at you with great expectations and hope to gain a perfect mentor and a faithful friend.

My sincere thankfulness goes to the Municipal Committee and the Santa-Martina Volunteer Club for arranging such a great and outstanding event. I believe the ‘Teacher of the Year Awards’ ceremony will keep being an opportunity to honor the prominent achievements of our teachers in the next years. Conclusively, I want to wish all of you a happy and fortunate coming year.

Thank you for your attention.

What Makes an Award Speech Ceremony Attractive?

It is a good idea to put this question before taking on a speech itself. To answer the question, “What will make my award speech attractive?”, you’re highly recommended to watch the video of the best Oscar speeches ever. Look at how the famous people speak in public when they are awarded. https://youtu.be/QR6JWtcWKCg After watching the given video, you can make a conclusion that your speech should be based on:

  • Elaborate preparations for public speaking. It means that even if you’re going to an award ceremony without guessing that you’ll be awarded, you should be ready to say some words. Believe Leonardo Dicaprio was likely to prepare a speech every ceremony he attended. Eventually, he got a coveted prize and manage to give a good speech. Follow his example! And in any case, good verbal communication skills in public might not go amiss. Asked to make a speech at a friend’s wedding or the birthday party? Do it well by practicing regularly! Develop active listening, confidence, emotional intelligence, and an effective body language to feel better during the public speaking on any occasion.
  • Sincerity. No amount of preparation can influence an audience’s perception greatly if you as a speaker are insincere in your speech, especially when it comes to an award ceremony speech. It may concern any emotion, feeling or impulse before your thought processes turn them into words. Tears well up? Don’t be afraid of showing them! Imagine that you’re speaking to a close friend and your sincerity will be appreciated by the audience.
  • Naturalness. Despite demonstrating sincerity, it is important to be quite natural in public speaking. You shouldn’t be too emotional if this state of mind isn’t typical for you. Don’t start crying purposely just because thinking, “The audience needs to see me sincere during my award ceremony speech.” Behave naturally! Feeling shy or perplexed? Don’t try to change yourself in this very minute. However, you should find a nerve to go up to a stage and deliver a good speech. Try out!

3 Basic Steps to Prepare an Award Speech

Believe you can make the best award speech ever? Well, you are left to take some basic steps in doing it – create a speech, rehearse it, and deliver it in front of the audience. Let’s prepare your award speech together!

  • Focus on the main idea of an award speech. If you’re asked to give a speech at the award ceremony, the first step is to choose a focused message. Determine if you want to show appreciation for the award and thank people who helped you or describe your path to getting an award and why it is vital for you. Even if you are given a prize, your speech shouldn’t miss a source of inspiration or motivation for the others to achieve the same great results in the field, be it a movie industry or science. This is more a general umbrella under which your main points should fall in your award ceremony speech.
  • Make a short list of 5 ideas for your speech. Know why the particular number of ideas to think of is used? Firstly, let’s look at the numerological meaning of 5 – it expresses the sense of personal freedom with a quick-thinking wit. Secondly, there is a consistent pattern with sets of 5. How many elements in the world? Right, 5 world elements – earth, air, fire, water, and spirit. How many senses do we have? Right, 5 senses – sight, taste, touch, hearing, and smell. You still have 5 ideas of your award speech to provide. Think of what you’d like to say about in your award speech.
  • Choose 3 supporting subpoints to the main points. With the main focus on the subject of speaking, you should support your words. You aren’t offered to plunge headlong into the numerology by finding out why 3 supporting details are needed. Just list them for your detailed speech. When you finish the outline of your speech, you can conclude it’s quite long to say about 5 points with 3 subpoints within 3-5 minutes. That’s why you can shorten it by removing some details. It is much more convenient to make speech content shorter than longer by picking out of the nose. What details are essential? Any evidence from your life that brings you to success. For example, your mom always says you, “Never give up!” Tell about it by giving the colorful description. Think of storytelling for your award acceptance speaking.

Unfortunately, all that we can do for you is to help with speech writing to get an award with dignity. It rests with you to practice your speech in front of the mirror or with the help of a recorder and deliver it effectively in the audience. Remember to be sincere and natural during your award speech! Besides, never give up for hell’s sake to get the award of recognition in this big world even if you struggle with a lot of written assignments now!

Presentation Speech Topics For Award Ceremonies

Presentation speech template including eleven speech topics for presenting an award, prize or gift to a happy recipient leading to a brief photo opportunity in the end. Bear in mind that you have to be short and sweet epitomizing. Each of the public speaking speech topics take two or three sentences maximally. The layout in this tutorial helps an enchanted public speaker to set up a good and aesthetically ceremonial award presentation.

  • The first remark you have to make is a commenting to the occasion. Refer why you are here together, refresh their memories a bit by stipulating why this is such a special day. Enforce the power of the delightful purpose of this meeting, and the happy recipient.
  • Explain in your presentation speech what the award represents. Be brief, since the audience has read the invitation and publicity material. Describe these underlying elemental public speaking power factors:
Symbol E.g. ? ?
Goal E.g. ?
Categories E.g. ?
History E.g.?
Named after E.g.? ?
Previous winners E.g. ?
  • Describe the organization you are representing. Tell why you are privileged to present. Make your speech personal, offer personal thoughts, experiences and feelings.
  • Praise the recipient. Present outstanding contributions, achievements or records that are relevant. Adapt them to the goals and meaning of the ceremonial special occasion .

Explain why the contributions are outstanding or unique. What offers did it take the winner? Refer to special qualifications and to similarities with other recipients.

Again: keep it short – 3 minutes for your award speech will do most of the time. Although it even can be somewhat shorter.

  • Mention the reasons for choosing her or him as recipient. Link the contributions to the meaning of the honor.
  • Make a concluding characterization by telling a compelling story or anecdote in the presentation speech text.
  • Ask if the receiver will come forward and declare her or him the winner.
  • Link the previous speech topics to what the prize gift stands for. Tip: read the inscription out loud and show the golden medal, the engraved plaque, the recognition trophy cup, or the certificate words.
  • At the end of your address congratulate her or him.
  • Hand over the award, prize, diploma, certificate or gift card.
  • Shake hands with the person or group being honored. Schedule a brief photo opportunity and smile to the camera! After the ceremony you could allow a small interview to invited journalists.

Finally, of course give the winner the opportunity to speak after your award presentation speech address. And start clapping your hands to express your honest approval after she or he has completed the thank you phrases.

Keep smiling all the time.

Welcome Speech for Award Ceremony

Welcome Speech for Award Ceremony School, Academic, Sports

Welcome speech for school awards ceremony.

Hon’ble Principal, Vice Principal and Teachers, Respected Parents and Dear Students! Welcome to the School Awards Ceremony 2016-2017.

Today, I feel very privileged and honoured to stand here in front of you all and acknowledge the achievements of our brilliant students who have made both the school and their parents proud. This program is held to recognize the young talents who have made an immense contribution to our school and the society. These brilliant students exhibit such qualities that will not only help them in achieving their goals, but also bring glory of success to our school academy. Today, we have gathered here not just to celebrate the achievements of our students, but also to give due regard to our values and morals which these awardees exemplify, like discipline, compassion and zeal for learning.

Awards are a way to encourage good behaviour and inculcate competitive spirit. This is the reason why our school organizes award ceremony every year to encourage its students. So we are here to give away the awards in mainly six categories, viz. academics, distinction in sports and arts, for participating in school exhibitions, debates and other social events. The awards to be distributed today are not just for recognizing those students who have performed exceptionally well in their academics, but also to honour those students who excelled in sports, performing arts and visual arts, including the ones who were proactive in various social events. The aim is to recognize that extra talent of our students other than academics and motivate them to shine in their respective fields.

Our institution has always provided its students with a healthy and fairly competitive environment to help them grow in every sphere of activity, be it academics, sports or any other extra-curricular role. We have given equal opportunities to all our students so that they realize their true potential and get ready to face the outer world once they complete their school studies. And I am much pleased to see our dear students performing and excelling in their respective areas of interests.

Also, I would like to address those students who have not won any prize and say that do not lose hope as this is not the end of everything and there will be many more opportunities coming your way to prove your mettle. School award ceremonies are just a beginning. I have a very inspiring line for all of you said by George W. Bush, the former president of the United States:

“To those of you who received honours, awards and distinctions, I say well done. And to the C students, I say, you too, can be president of the United States.”

In the end, I would like to use this wonderful opportunity to thank our Principal, Vice Principal and the board members for taking this institution to new heights and creating a distinct path for the students to follow. I would also like to extend special thanks to all the parents for joining us and making this occasion a huge success.

Welcome Speech for Academic Awards Ceremony

A very Good Morning to our school committee members, honourable judges, staff, parents and dear students! I feel really honoured in sharing with you the achievements of our brilliant young students. This is an occasion of joy for all of us as we have come together for celebrating this auspicious day. This goes without saying that the award ceremony is amongst my most treasured occasions of the school as it provides us with an opportunity to reflect on the preceding year, address the whole community and share the achievements, success and plans of our school for the days to come.

Our school truly believes that good education plays a crucial role in building a bright future for our children. Therefore, here we are committed to providing an atmosphere to our students where they all can imbibe good values and learn new things every day. I am extremely glad at the fact that our school committee members as well as teachers are leaving no stone unturned in working towards this direction. On this important occasion, we get a chance to publically celebrate this success achieved through the sheer hard work and perseverance of both our students as well as teachers.

Our students have not only excelled in academics but are also very good at the extra-curricular activities like sports, drama, artworks, organizing school events and many other things. They have not only made us proud, but brought accolades to our school and have given it a nation-wide recognition, thus adding extra feather to its cap. Students like you are responsible for the continuous growth and development of our school in combined efforts with the extremely proficient council members as well as our teachers.

Our school has constantly received attention from media, and has well-hosted the visits of the renowned personalities from the well-known institutions, national as well as overseas. Most of the visitors have even returned to pay multiple visits to our school for closely observing our students and supporting the faculty members. Luckily, feedback received from the visiting faculties has always been positive. This certainly wouldn’t have been possible without our committed staff members and capable students of this school.

I express my heartiest gratitude to the principal, teachers and parents for their support and collective efforts towards the development of these young talents, grooming them to achieve something substantial in life and above all, raising them with a benign attitude. Whatever our students have achieved so far would never have been possible without your constant endeavor.

I am extremely pleased to announce that the contribution of each and everyone present here has borne fruit. So I thank you all for having come together and adding more grace to this ceremony.

At last, I am going to recite a few lines.

“Succeeding in life is as simple as being a good student. All you have to do is pay attention, work hard and give it a best shot.”

Thank you very much!

Welcome Speech for Sports Award Ceremony

Good Morning Ladies and Gentlemen, our media partners, sponsors, respected officials and our very talented athletes! I heartily welcome you all to the sports award ceremony of this institution.

It gives me immense pleasure to host this ceremony that has been observed to commemorate the achievements of our teams, officials and athletes. This event truly showcases the commitment that all the members have shown towards the sports competition held last year in December 2016. The preceding year was indeed a very busy year for all of us as we had worked really hard to get through this competition. Our young athletes participated in all the four major games, namely table tennis, karate, cycling and indoor football and emerged with flying colours. You people have made us extremely proud.

Today, we are here to announce the lucky winners of the 12 main awards and also for applauding the victory of our commendable award recipients. A huge congratulations to all the finalists, you have definitely set a very admiring benchmark for other sports persons of this institution to imitate. We hope that you will continue to achieve brilliance in your respective sports career and in other spheres too.

Babe Ruth has rightly said, “The way a team plays as a whole determines its success. You may have the greatest bunch of individual stars in the world, but if they don’t play together, the club won’t be worth a dime.” Our football team has proved that a game can only be victorious when the players are well-coordinated and are imbued with a true team spirit. Due to such great efforts in league, the team has brought home second prize in the event organized in Pune at the national level and made our institution extremely proud.

On behalf of the Organizing Committee, I would also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the efforts of our esteemed board members, National Sports Association, city’s sports club and specially the National Olympic Council team members for making this day special for all those who have the nerve to achieve something in their lives.

I would also like to express my gratitude towards the organizing committee members who have fulfilled their duties quite well; did not fail to justify their roles and took all the loads of work with a smile. This event would have not been possible without you. I also want to thank all the athletes, volunteers, family and friends for making this sports award ceremony happen at such a grand level.

In the end, I would like to address those participants who even though have not won any of the awards but still put up a great show in the competition. Also, I would like to add by saying that it’s never too late to start over and try again. I have a short line for you delivered by Vince Lombardi.

“It’s not whether you get knocked down; it’s whether you get up.”

Now I want to request our chief guest to come on stage to say a few inspiring words.

How to give an award ceremony speech.

careertrend article image

Award shows are known for not only the performances, celebrity outfits and the glamour, but also the award acceptance speeches. While you may not be attending the Oscars or Grammys any time soon, you may attend an award ceremony at your job, school, or other organization, and be required to give an acceptance speech. A good speech garners respect from the audience, while a bad one may put people to sleep or confuse them.

Decide ahead of time who will speak if multiple people are part of the potentially winning entity. Either pick one person or decide how long each person may speak.

Make a list of every person you need to thank, such as your family, partners, mentors and other people. You may not have time to thank everyone, so it’s okay to sum up groups, such as “my family” or your marketing team at your place of employment.

Say concisely what the award means to you. Show genuine thanks and appreciation, but do so in a few words. Example: “Ever since I started medical school, I knew this award was something to strive for.”

Ask someone associated with the award ceremony what the time constraints are for an acceptance speech. If he is unsure of a set time, err on the side of keeping the speech brief, such as a minute or less.

Write out the speech. Do not write out every single word, but instead key remarks and people to thank. Type the speech and print it in a font that’s large and easy to read. Make the speech concise and genuine. Avoid showboating or using the moment as an opportunity to push another agenda or your political views.

Practice your speech multiple times. You may get nervous when presenting the speech, so practicing helps you feel comfortable and not forget your words.

Give the speech at the ceremony, breathing normally and making eye contact with the audience at least every two or three sentences. Speak confidently into the microphone, smile and act thankful, without coming off as cocky.

Award Ceremony Welcome Speech

Welcome Speech for High School Award Ceremony

Good evening to one & all present in the auditorium,

Hon’ble Chief Guest, Respected Directors, Principal Madam, Committee Members, Dear Parents, Teachers & Students.

This is SS, your host for the evening and today I, on the behalf of PQR School, heartily welcome all of you present. It is a matter of great honour and pleasure to appreciate and reward the hard work as well as performance of the students of tenth standard in their board exams.

Well…Education is much more than what happens within the four walls of the classroom and the school is very fortunate to have such teachers, trainers and instructors who recognise the same. In fact, if the building and teachers are the two pillars of any school, then all you students certainly are the third pillar.

PQR School believes in encouraging the students, for it believes that when they are motivated they tend to work harder in future and certainly their performances get better. This is why, the school holds High school award ceremony every year for rewarding the students who made the school proud. We also have with us today the scholars who have not only made the school but the city proud by their outstanding performances. You all would be amazed to know that the school has ranked number-1 this year beating all the other schools behind in the high school results.

So, today the school will honour the students with different slabs of scholarships based on the grounds of the percentages achieved by each of them and will also motivate all the students who worked very hard but couldn’t hit their targets. I am privileged today to welcome everyone to this ceremony of appreciating the talent of worthy students.

So, first of all with a huge round of applause, let us welcome our Guest of Honour; our Chief Guest for the evening Mr.Bhushan, who is the District Magistrate (DM) of our region. He is the person who is very much in the news & discussions nowadays. We all know about the landmark changes brought about by him in the society ever since he held the chair. He is the person who has brought a wave of development, safety, security, literacy in whole of the district.

Now, may I please welcome Respected Director Sir and Principal Ma’am to this prestigious Award Ceremony.

I would now like to heartily invite all the teachers, instructors, trainers and all the staff members without whom this achievement could not be attained, who put in all their efforts in bringing the best out of the children.

Last but not the least, I would like to extend my gratitude towards the parents who have worked equally hard as the students did in their studies, homework, revision part and remained to be a continuous support system, throughout the journey.

Olympics Closing Ceremony: All the Highlights as Paris Hands Over Games to L.A., From Phoenix Rocking Out to Tom Cruise’s Epic Stunts

PARIS, FRANCE - AUGUST 11: Actor Tom Cruise holds the Olympic flag during the Closing Ceremony of the Olympic Games Paris 2024 at Stade de France on August 11, 2024 in Paris, France. (Photo by Fabrizio Bensch- Pool/Getty Images)

The Paris Olympics set a high bar for itself after an opening ceremony that showcased Lady Gaga, Celine Dion and a scenic backdrop involving virtually every Parisian landmark along the Seine. But the closing ceremony — taking place on a blistering hot day in stark contrast to the pouring rain of its kickoff — also delivered a blockbuster show with a Hollywood twist.

Over 70,000 spectators attended in addition to 8,200 athletes from over 200 delegations and 270 artists. In an interview with Variety , Reboul said he and the rest of the organizers spent an “incalculable” amount of time to prepare an airtight security plan with local authorities. Zaho de Sagazan Kicks Things Off From the Jardin des Tuileries

French singer-songwriter Zaho de Sagazan, who sang “Modern Love” to Greta Gerwig at the Cannes Film Festival, kicked off the closing ceremony with a performance of French music legend Édith Piaf’s “Sous le Ciel de Paris” at the lush Jardin des Tuileries, where the Olympic Cauldron — an air balloon lit by the Olympic Flame — is located. She was accompanied by the choir of the Académie Haendel-Hendrix.

French Breakout Star Léon Marchand Carries the Olympic Lantern

Dressed elegantly in a suit, French swimmer and Olympic breakout star Léon Marchand — who won four gold medals and one silver at the Games — then removed the lantern containing the flame from the cauldron and began carrying it to the Stade de France. Nicknamed “the dolphin” by his French supporters, Marchand was welcomed with “Léon, Léon” chants. He moved to Arizona three years ago to train with Bob Bowman, the coach of 23-time Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps.

Athletes Band Together — and Sing Karaoke?

After parading in boats under pouring rain during the opening ceremony, the athletes — who all stuck around the City of Light for the closing bash — entered the futuristic stage together and moved to the beat of French electro tracks, including by Justice and M83.

After all the teams had entered, it was announced that it was time for “athlete karaoke,” where all competitors were expected to sing along to various songs. First up were some French anthems, including “Emmenez-moi” by Charles Aznavour, “Les Champs-Elysées” by Joe Dassin and “Freed From Desire” by Gala. Naturally, “We Are the Champions” by Queen was also part of the playlist, and resulted in the biggest sing-along of the night.

Tom Cruise Has Arrived

The actor waved to fans as he arrived to the VIP section of the closing ceremony ahead of his stunt performance to hand over the Games to 2028 host Los Angeles.

A Golden Voyager Descends on the Games

Dressed in a glittering costume, the voyager rappelled down from the top of the stadium and performed an acrobatic piece as two more mysterious figures attached the flag of Greece to a pole and waved it in the air. Nike, the Greek Goddess of Victory who appears on every Olympic medal, was also portrayed as a swarm of acrobats descended upon the stadium from the sky and erected the five Olympic rings. A piano then emerged from underneath the set, dangling vertically as Alain Roche played the instrument suspended in midair while French lyric tenor Benjamin Bernheim sang “Hymn to Apollo.” As the acrobats danced and flipped, the rings were raised into the air to symbolize the rebirth of the Games.

Francophone Musicians Take Over

After the dancers had been cleared off the futuristic stage, French indie band Phoenix delivered a rousing rendition of their hit “Lisztomania” surrounded by athletes. DJ Kavinsky and Belgian singer Angèle then joined the band to play “Nightcall,” the breakout song from Nicolas Winding Refn’s “Drive,” before launching into “If I Ever Feel Better” featuring a verse from Cambodian rapper VannDa. Fellow French rockers Air then showed up to play “Playground Love,” the band’s collaboration with Phoenix frontman Thomas Mars that was featured in “The Virgin Suicides,” directed by Mars’ wife Sofia Coppola. The surprise guests continued with Vampire Weekend frontman Ezra Koenig hopping on stage to sing “Tonight,” his duet with the band. Phoenix closed out its set with “1901,” which saw Mars jump into the crowd of moshing Olympians.

Paris Sets a Record in Olympic Marriage Proposals

Tony Estanguet, the dashing gold medal-winning French slalom canoeist who presided over of the Paris 2024 Organizing Committee for the Olympics, delivered a moving speech highlighting the records broken during the event, which not only included the 64 medals won by the French team, but also the number of wedding proposals that happened through the last 11 days. Hosted in the city of Love, the Paris Olympics saw seven wedding proposals, two of which happened in Marseille during the sailing competitions.

“To you, athletes, what can I say? We knew you would be brilliant, but you were magic,” Estanguet said. “You made us happy, you made us feel alive,” he continued, drawing a parallel with the exhilarating feelings triggered by a coup de foudre.

L.A. Mayor Karen Bass Is Handed the Olympic Flag

H.E.R. Performs the U.S. National Anthem

Is there anything Grammy-award winning superstar H.E.R. can’t do? As the American flag was raised into the sky to symbolize L.A. taking on the 2028 Summer Games, award-winning musician H.E.R. sang the U.S. National Anthem with gusto.

H.E.R. was dressed in an all-white look and also had a matching custom Fender Stratocaster. After belting out the final notes of the “Star Spangled Banner,” she paused and began strumming the “Mission: Impossible” theme song as Tom Cruise descended from the roof of the stadium.

Tom Cruise Delivers “Mission: Impossible”-Worthy Stunts

Tom Cruise jumped off the top of the Stade de France to mark the handover from the Paris Olympics to the L.A. Games in 2028, and landed on the stage of the stadium.

He was welcomed like a rockstar at the Stade de France and joined Team USA champion Biles along with L.A. mayor Bass, who handed the Olympic flag to him. He then hopped on to a motorcycle with the flag in tow and rode out of the stadium to make the symbolic delivery to L.A. In a pre-recorded segment, Cruise dove out of a plane over the Hollywood sign and positioned the Olympic rings over it before the artist performances in L.A. began.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Billie Eilish and Snoop Dogg Welcome Games to L.A.

L.A. natives the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Billie Eilish and Snoop Dogg represented the City of Angels after the handoff of the Olympic flag was made. On a beachside stage, the Red Hot Chili Peppers played “Can’t Stop” before Eilish sang her most recent hit “Birds of a Feather.” Snoop Dogg, who has been contributing commentary to this year’s Games on NBC, brought his Long Beach style to the screen as he rapped “Drop It Like It’s Hot” and even brought out Dr. Dre for their anthem “The Next Episode.”

Yseult and Paris Say “Au Revoir” With “My Way”

The broadcast shifted back to the Stade de France for the closing ceremony’s final segment: an enchanting version of “My Way” belted by French singer Yseult. As the final notes rang out, an impressive amount of fireworks exploded over the stadium — ensuring that the Paris Olympics went out with a bang.

Miley Cyrus Breaks Down in Tears While Being Honored at Disney Legends Ceremony

Miley cyrus got emotional as she reflected on her time as hannah montana while accepting her disney legend award at d23 aug. 11. .

Miley Cyrus has changed her hair and changed her clothes, but she always finds her way back home.

Indeed, the Hannah Montana alum was officially honored with her Disney Legend award at D23 Aug. 11—becoming the youngest person to ever receive the honor—and she couldn’t help but gush over her one in a million experience being the pop star alter ego.

“I’m definitely going to cry,” Miley tearfully said after accepting her award, per The Hollywood Reporter . “I’m gonna let everybody get on a little Disney Legend secret. I’m the one that tells you what you’re not supposed to know. And what I want to say, is that legends get scared, too. I’m scared right now, but the difference is we do it anyway, and all of you can do that every single day. It’s legendary to be afraid and do it anyway. There is no such thing as failure when you try.”

The Disney alum—who began the role of Hannah Montana in 2006 at just 13 years old, and continued until the end of the series in 2011—reflected on her character who, Miley noted, was created to “rebuild and reimagine” the Disney brand.

“I stand here still proud to have been Hannah Montana because she made Miley in so many ways,” the 31-year-old continued. “This award is dedicated to Hannah and all of her amazing, loyal fans, and to everyone who has made my dream a reality To quote the legend herself, ‘This is the life.’”

Given that Miley has not donned her iconic blonde wig in over 10 years, her speech also gave her the opportunity to get nostalgic—and she also took the moment to recall one of the most memorable moments of having the best of both worlds.

“Because Hannah Montana is a pop star, we needed footage of her playing sold out concerts, but no one knew who she, a.k.a Miley was,” she reflected. “So, they gave away tickets at the Glendale Mall where I would have my first free concert.”

The concert, which Miley also detailed in her 2009 book Miles to Go , was the first indication of just how legendary the character would become.

“In reality I was a little girl in a blonde wig at the mall,” Miley added at the Disney Legend ceremony. “But in my heart I was Hannah Montana. And I was so proud to be. A little bit of everything has changed since that day, but at the same time, nothing has changed at all.”

Keep reading to learn more about Miley’s journey.

1. She was born  Destiny Hope in 1992. Her parents Billy Ray Cyrus  and Tish Cyrus chose that name because, her father told US Weekly , "She's a giver. She believes that we're all put here for a reason, and that's to give back to our fellow man. I'm real proud of her."

2. Because she smiled often as a child, her family nicknamed her "Smiley," which was eventually shortened to Miley. The star legally changed her name to Miley Ray Cyrus in 2008.

3. Her godmother is Dolly Parton , who became close with her Billy Ray after they worked together in the early 1990s.

"We just kind of gelled, 'cause we're both country kids. We had a lot of fun just talking about that," Parton said on SiriusXM's Just Jenny in 2019. "And then when Miley came along, I said, 'She's got to be my fairy goddaughter.'" (Parton would later make an appearance on Hannah Montana as the titular character's fairy godmother.)

4. Miley knew she wanted to pursue a career in the entertainment industry after seeing a production of Mamma Mia! with her dad, who told the Toronto Star that she grabbed his arm and said, "'This is what I want to do, daddy. I want to be an actress.'"

5. She made her acting debut on Billy Ray's PAX TV series Doc .

6. At age 11, Miley auditioned for the Disney Channel series Hannah Montana . The producers initially thought she was too young, but after an exhaustive six-month search that had over 1,000 actresses read for the role of the secret pop star, executives brought Miley, then 12, back in.

"She stood in front of us and knocked us out," Gary Marsh , Disney's president at the time, told USA Today in 2007. "I remember I came back to my desk that night and wrote a note to my team saying, 'This is either something extraordinary or a chance that didn't pay off.' That bet has paid off in truly unimaginable ways."

7. During a 2020 interview with Hilary Duff on her Instagram Live show Bright Minded , Miley admitted the Lizzie McGuire star  inspired her to audition for Hannah.

"The only reason I wanted it was so I could do whatever you did," Miley told Hilary. "And so really, I don't think I gave a s--t about being an actress or a singer. I just wanted to copy you no matter what."

8. Hannah Montana premiered in March 2006 and quickly became one of Disney Channel's highest rated series of all time and made Miley one of Hollywood's most popular young stars. By 2008, paparazzi photos of Miley were being sold for anywhere from $30,000 to $150,000, according to The Los Angeles Times .

9. While they portrayed best friends on-screen, Miley revealed she and co-star Emily Osment "struggled to get along" during the first two seasons.

"There was competition between us—girls struggle with that, and we were no exception. I didn't do much to fix it," Miley wrote in her 2009 memoir, Miles to Go . "I mean, I wanted to, but I had no idea how to go about fixing it. I never got along with girls as well as I did with guys." But the two eventually became friends, with Miley explaining, "It took us a while to get into a groove. We both needed to learn how to be sensitive to each other."

10. After the series ended in 2011—there was also the 2009 big-screen release  Hannah Montana: The Movie in 2009—Miley admitted she struggled to find herself.

"Some of my audience was so attached to a character, which wasn't me," she told Howard Stern in 2020. "So, then that does a lot of psychological stuff, where it's like, 'Am I valuable as myself?' OK, the whole show's premise was that when I had my normal hair and looked like myself, no one gave a s--t about me. And then when I got all dolled up and put a wig on, all of a sudden, you know, I'm being chased by people chasing my tour bus. So, that's a lot to put on a kid—to go, 'When you're yourself, no one gives a f--k.' But then when they go and kind of groom you to look like something else, something that you're not, and you're really young, and it's a lot of makeup and, you know, wigs and all this stuff, it does something psychologically."

11. It was love at first sight for Miley when she met her first boyfriend Nick Jonas at a charity event in 2006, when they were both 13 years old. "We became boyfriend and girlfriend the day we met," Miley revealed to Seventeen in 2008. "He was on a quest to meet me, and he was like, 'I think you're beautiful and I really like you.' And I was like, 'Oh, my gosh, I like you so much.'"

After secretly dating, the couple broke up and Miley admitted she "bawled for a month straight" after their split. "Nick and I loved each other," she told the mag. "We still do, but we were in love with each other. For two years he was basically my 24/7. But it was really hard to keep it from people. We were arguing a lot, and it really wasn't fun."

12. Her relationship with Nick inspired her breakup anthem "7 Things," with Miley even wearing the necklace he gave her in the music video for the 2008 hit. The couple briefly reconnected in 2009, with their short-lived reunion inspiring The Jonas Brothers  ballad "Before the Storm," which featured Miley.

13. While filming The Last Song in 2009, Miley began dating her co-star Liam Hemsworth. They were on and off for a decade before getting married in 2018 . But Miley and Liam announced their split eight months later and they were officially divorced in 2020 .

14. Miley later admitted that the trauma of losing their house in Malibu during the California wildfires in 2018 drove her decision to marry the Hunger Games star after a two-year engagement.

"We were together since 16," she said on The Howard Stern Show in 2020. "Our house burned down. We had been like, engaged—I don't know if we really ever thought we were actually going to get married, but when we lost our house in Malibu...I just clung to what I had left of that house, which was me and him. And I really do and did love him very, very, very much and still do, always will."

15. During her 2020 appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Miley reflected on her first "hook-up," confirming it was Liam without directly naming her ex-husband.

"I ended up marrying the guy, so that's pretty crazy," she said. "I lied and said that he wasn't the first, so I didn't seem like a loser."

16. Shortly after announcing her split from Liam, Miley made headlines when she began a whirlwind romance with  The Hills: New Beginnings  alum  Kaitlynn Carter . The couple broke up after two months, with Kaitlynn admitting the public's interest in their romance played a factor in their split.

"We actually did work pretty hard to keep it as private as we could, but it is what it is," she said on  The Viall Files  podcast in June 2020. "It's so hard to go through a breakup in the public eye, too...it's so rough. But there's also a lot to be gained and learned from that."

17. Miley came out as pansexual in 2016, telling Variety that she struggled to "understand" her gender and sexuality growing up.

"I always hated the word 'bisexual,' because that's even putting me in a box," she explained to the publication. "I don't ever think about someone being a boy or someone being a girl. Also, my nipple pasties and s--t never felt sexualized to me. My eyes started opening in the fifth or sixth grade. My first relationship in my life was with a chick. I grew up in a very religious Southern family."

18. In 2017, Miley claimed she was the inspiration for Katy Perry 's hit song "I Kissed a Girl."

"I heard her on the radio...they said, 'Who did you write that about?'" Miley told WKTU . "She said: me! I heard it and I screamed, and started freaking out."

19. Miley is the founder of the Happy Hippie Foundation, which works to fight injustice facing homeless youth, LGBTQ youth and other vulnerable populations.

20. In her 2009 autobiography, Miley revealed she was born with tachycardia, a non-life-threatening condition that makes her heart beat much faster than the normal rate.

"The type of tachycardia I have isn't dangerous. It won't hurt me, but it does bother me," she wrote. "There is never a time onstage when I'm not thinking about my heart."

21. Miley adopted a vegan diet for six years before switching to a pescatarian lifestyle because her "brain wasn't functioning properly," she explained on   The Joe Rogan Experience in 2020. She revealed that Liam cooked fish for her to eat as her first meal in ages that wasn't entirely plant-based and, she recalled, "I cried, like, for a long time. I cried for the fish...it really hurts me to eat fish."

22. While "Party in the U.S.A." is one of Miley's most successful songs, the singer isn't exactly a fan of the catchy track. "I hate it," she said in a 2019 video . "But for some reason, the people love it."

23. In 2013, an online petition posted  on the White House's official "We the People" website asked President Barack Obama to change the U.S. national anthem from "The Star-Spangled Banner" to "Party in the U.S.A."

24. Initially set to lend her voice to the 2021 animated movie Hotel Transylvania , Miley claimed in a 2019 tweet that she was fired "for buying Liam a penis cake for his birthday and licking it." (She was replaced by fellow former Disney star Selena Gomez .)

25. In 2010, Miley's Disney darling image went up in smoke  when a now-infamous video surfaced of the star taking a hit from a bong. A decade later, Miley hilariously celebrated the scandal's anniversary on Instagram.

"Happy 10 year anniversary to the groundbreaking video of a teenager smoking a bong & saying dumb s--t to their friends," she wrote. "(Not sure the director of this fine film should be considered a 'friend' but...)" She also answered a burning question, writing, "#YesItWasReallySalvia #IfYouFindWeedThatDoesThisToYouSHARE."

26. In a 2019 tweet , Miley alleged the bong incident cost her a huge endorsement contract, writing, "I lost a massive Walmart deal at 17 for ripping a bong."

27. Miley has 74 tattoos and got her first body art when she was 17.

28. Miley has been open about her sobriety journey over the years, discussing her relapse during the pandemic.

"Well, I, like a lot of people, being completely honest...fell off," she said during an interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music in 2020. "I would never sit here and go, 'I've been f--king sober,' and I didn't. I fell off and I realized that I now am back on sobriety, two weeks sober, and I feel like I really accepted that time."

She added that she's trying to come to terms with things, noting, "One of the things I've used is 'Don't get furious, get curious.' So don't be mad at yourself, but ask yourself, 'What happened?'"

29. Miley explained that the deaths of musicians like Amy Winehouse, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison and Kurt Cobain inspired her to reevaluate her relationship with alcohol .

"Twenty-seven to me was a year that I really had to protect myself," she said. "That actually really made me want to get sober, because we've lost so many icons at 27. It's a very pivotal time. You go into that next chapter or this is it for you. I just feel that some of the artists that almost couldn't handle their own power and their own energy and their own force. It's an energy. I, no matter what, was born with that."

30. In March 2022, Miley's plane had to make an emergency landing after it was struck by lightning while she was en route from Colombia to Paraguay for the 2022 Asuncionico music festival. Miley later admitted that she was "a little traumatized" by the incident.

"It was really scary," she told Seth Meyers . "I was in my mom's lap because I was pretty sure it didn't matter about the seatbelts at this point."

Miley Cyrus Tearfully Dedicates Disney Legend Honor to Hannah Montana: ‘She Made Miley’

  • By Larisha Paul

During her final audition for Hannah Montana , 12-year-old Miley Cyrus wore her heart on her sleeve and her life-changing manifestation on her chest. “I should have my own TV show,” read the shirt she wore beneath a blue jacket in the tape . She was right. In the nearly two decades since she landed the role, the musician and actress has become woven into the fabric of pop culture history. Last night, at the 2024 D23 ceremony, Cyrus became the youngest-ever honoree to be presented with the title of Disney Legend.

At the event, country musician Lainey Wilson introduced Cyrus with a cover of the song that started it all: “Best of Both Worlds.” The Hannah Montana theme song served as the foundation of a complete discography of songs that are inspiring an entire wave of pop singers almost 20 years later. Wilson herself called the moment “a dream come true,” adding: “Miley, I want to thank you for never being afraid to step outside the box, always staying true to yourself, and most importantly, always kicking butt.”

And while “Best of Both Worlds” would eventually become the all-time defining Hannah Montana song, Cyrus opened her set that day with “This Is the Life.” “Which, of course, no one knew,” she said. “Because in reality, I was a little girl in a blonde wig at the mall with a big dream. But in my heart, I was Hannah Montana. And I was so proud to be her.”

Founder of the Ethnicity Awards, Sarah Garrett MBE, said: ‘I’m delighted that the 2024 Ethnicity Awards are once again supported by HSBC UK as headline partner, and that the awards continue to highlight the people and organisations who  are continuing to do good – both publicly and privately – for Black, Asian and Ethnic Minority communities and organisations across the UK.

‘All the individuals and organisations are very deserving of their place on the shortlist. The awards will be a celebration of their achievements and it is going to be another fantastic event.’

The Ethnicity Awards began in 2018, with the purpose of celebrating individuals and organisations that support Black, Asian and diverse Ethnic communities. Music superstar Dionne Warwick, Little Mix singer Leigh Anne Pinnock, Manchester United footballer and social mobility campaigner Marcus Rashford, newsreader Moira Stuart and Labour MP Diane Abbot, are amongst the impressive list of previous winners.

‘The Ethnicity Awards engages those who ensure equality, opportunity and fair treatment for all, regardless of ethnic background. The awards bring together communities, businesses and individuals to support a diverse Britain where everyone feels they can belong,’ the organisers explained.

Maya Jama

Garrett MBE originally set up the awards ceremony, after seeing her mother treated as a ‘second-class citizen’.

‘Seeing the adverse reactions of people towards her compounded in me the general feeling of not belonging. Something I longed for, and that would have really mattered to me, was to have some positive representation. I wanted to see people, like members of my family, be celebrated,’ she explained to Metro.co.uk.

‘I knew I needed to help create this change.

‘So, seven years ago, I decided it was time to do something positive – to unite people rather than divide – in the hope that I could dissipate some of the ignorance and  negative stereotyping  that exists. The Ethnicity Awards was launched as part of my wider initiative.’

‌The 2023 Ethnicity Awards will announce its winners on October 31

IOC President’s speech – Paris 2024 Closing Ceremony

Please find below the full speech delivered by International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach during the Closing Ceremony of the Olympic Games Paris 2024 today, 11 August 2024.

Dear President of the French Republic, Mr. Emmanuel Macron,

Dear President of the Paris 2024 Organising Committee, my fellow Olympian and dear friend, Tony Estanguet,

Dear Mayor of Paris, Mrs. Anne Hidalgo,

Dear Olympic friends,

Dear fellow Olympians,

Despite all the tensions in our world, you came here from all the 206 National Olympic Committees and the IOC Refugee Olympic Team, to make the City of Light shine brighter than ever before.

Your performances were amazing. You competed fiercely against each other. Every contest on the edge of perfection. Every performance sparking excitement around the world. You showed us what greatness we humans are capable of.

During all this time, you lived peacefully together under one roof in the Olympic Village. You embraced each other. You respected each other, even if your countries are divided by war and conflict. You created a culture of peace.

This inspired all of us and billions of people around the globe. Thank you for making us dream. Thank you for making us believe in a better world for everyone.

We know that the Olympic Games cannot create peace. But the Olympic Games can create a culture of peace that inspires the world. This is why I call on everyone who shares this Olympic spirit: let us live this culture of peace every single day.

These Olympic Games could only inspire the world, because our French friends have prepared the stage. And what an amazing stage it was!

Millions of people celebrating the athletes in the streets of Paris and all across France. Millions of spectators in iconic venues creating an overwhelming atmosphere. More than half of the world’s population sharing this spectacular celebration of the unity of humankind in all our diversity.

The Olympic Games Paris 2024 were a celebration of the athletes and sport at its best. The first Olympic Games delivered fully under our Olympic Agenda reforms: younger, more urban, more inclusive, more sustainable. The first ever Olympic Games with full gender parity.

These were sensational Olympic Games from start to finish – or dare I say: SEINE-sational Games.

The Olympic Games Paris 2024 were Olympic Games of a new era.

That is why I would like to thank all our French friends. First and foremost, my warmest thanks go to the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, for his tireless support. My heartfelt thanks goes to the Organising Committee, under the excellent leadership of my fellow Olympian, Tony Estanguet, for making these Games wide open. All my gratitude goes to the public authorities at all levels and to the public services, for their essential contribution.

All our thanks and recognition go to our Olympic community – the National Olympic Committees, the International Federations, our TOP partners and the Media Rights- Holders. Together, you have contributed to Olympic Games of a new era in every respect. And for this you can be proud forever.

A special thank you to all the wonderful volunteers. You will be forever in our hearts.

Dear French friends, you have fallen in love with the Olympic Games. And we have fallen in love with all of you.

Thank you Paris, thank you France!

Long live the Olympic Games! Long live France!

[Flame extinguishing]

And now, with my heart full of emotions, I have to perform one more task: I declare the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad Paris 2024 closed.

In accordance with tradition, I call upon the youth of the world to assemble four years from now in Los Angeles, United States of America, to celebrate with all of us the Games of the XXXIV Olympiad.

The International Olympic Committee is a not-for-profit, civil, non-governmental, international organisation made up of volunteers which is committed to building a better world through sport. It redistributes more than 90 per cent of its income to the wider sporting movement, which means that every day the equivalent of USD 4.2 million goes to help athletes and sports organisations at all levels around the world.
