Full Text of Madara Uchiha's Speech
Here is the full text of Madara’s speech , as transcribed (copy and paste) from the English dub of the anime:
Wake up to reality! Nothing ever goes as planned in this accursed world. The longer you live, the more you realize that the only things that truly exist in this reality are merely pain, suffering and futility. Listen… Everywhere you look in this world, wherever there is light, there will always be shadows to be found as well. As long as there is a concept of victors, the vanquished will also exist. The selfish intent of wanting to preserve peace initiates wars and hatred is born in order to protect love. There are nexuses, causal relationships that cannot be separated. I want to sever the fate of this world. A world of only victors. A world of only peace. A world of only love. I will create such a world. I am…the ghost of the Uchihas. For truly this reality…is a hell.

The Legendary Madara Speech – Wake Up to Reality (Full Text)
There is only one thing most of us appreciate much more than a powerful, lovable hero, and that is a badass villain. All Naruto fans can surely appreciate the greatness and complexity of Madara Uchiha as a character.
However, amongst all his impactful quotes throughout the series, the legendary Madara speech stands out the most to a majority of fans. We all remember how powerful and jaw-dropping the darkness behind his words was.
If you are looking for the full (copy and paste ready) version of the ‘Wake Up to Reality’ speech of Madara Uchiha, look no further – we have prepared it for you! We will also be explaining the meaning of the speech so you can understand just how profound it is.
Let’s get into it!
Madara’s Speech to Obito (The Full Extended Version)
Here is the video of Madara actually saying the words, as they sound ten times as powerful and memorable if you hear them directly from him:
Additionally, since many of you are searching for the full transcribed version of the speech, here is a helpful post from the r/Naruto subreddit , which contains the entire speech.
The Meaning of the Speech (Important Lines Explained)
When you first hear the words, you can immediately feel the darkness behind them. However, it’s not so much destructive, evil darkness that consumes the speech. It’s rather a different view of the world we live in, and Madara’s way of expressing his truth about it.
We are drawing a parallel between our reality and the one in the Naruto world because this particular speech seems to have a more general message, easily applied to us as well.
The weight and intent behind what Madara has to say walk a fine line between crushing realism and bleak pessimism.
Wake up to reality!
He calls us to wake up to reality in the first sentence, which made the speech as famous as it is. Madara is saying that we have fallen asleep, blind to the heavy truth that burdens our world. His speech is an invitation to open our eyes.
…the only things that truly exist in this reality are merely pain, suffering, and futility.
This sentence shows how gloomy the vibe of the entire speech truly is. Madara shows his disappointment and probably an overly dark view of the world he is trying to change. However, we have to understand that these feelings have fueled his entire existence. His mission starts from the perception of a world that needs change.
…wherever there is light, there will always be shadows…
Here, he highlights the ever-present existence of duality among all things. If there is light, there is dark; if there are victors, there are those who are defeated. According to Madara, we would be ignorant of the world around us if we didn’t acknowledge and understand all sides of life.
Hatred is born in order to protect love.
This is one of the most powerful Madara quotes in the entire show. He explains how we have created wars to preserve peace and how we learn to hate one another in order to preserve what we love.
Looking from this perspective, it’s easy to understand the significant mistakes people have been making throughout the centuries. However, knowledge without action doesn’t mean much, which is why Madara takes action.
I want to sever the fate of this world.
He shows his ambitious (and mostly unrealistic) goal of splitting the dualities we discussed above. Madara is longing for a world of peace, where the dark side of the coin (hatred, war) is eradicated.
Was Madara Right?
Although there is some truth to his words, even when translated into our reality, Madara’s view of the world is probably too dark and edgy. He has focused all his thoughts and emotions on the darkness around him and almost forgot that the light also exists.
Even though he mentions the dual nature of our existence, it’s as if Madara doesn’t believe that the bright side of the coin truly exists. That’s why he chooses to forsake reality and has the need to create a new one.
You can see the flaws in that approach quite easily.
Spreading love, positivity, and joy around us (much like Naruto did) is a more realistic and successful approach to bringing change in the long term.
What Episode is Madara’s Speech?
If you are searching for the exact episode to watch:
The “Wake Up to Reality” Madara speech appears in the 344th episode of the Naruto: Shippūden anime called “Obito and Madara.”
In this episode, we see the first encounter between Madara and Obito, right after he was saved from under the boulders by the then old Madara. He explains the motivation for his plans to unify the world, which is what the entire speech is about.
Interestingly, young Obito is not very interested in the speech that we fans love so much. He soon attempts to escape and get back together with his teammates.
Who Wrote Madara’s Speech?
Of course, the author of the famous speech is Masashi Kishimoto, the Japanese manga artist who created Naruto .
Naruto is a wonderful show which makes us think about the world and our place in it. The villains’ perspective is just as valid as that of the good guys if you do your best to understand it.
We hope that we have helped clarify the Madara speech and its true meaning. Now, we would like to hear from you:
What is your favorite Madara quote outside of this legendary speech?

One of the Big Three anime, Naruto — and by extension, Naruto Shippuden — remains one of the most popular and beloved franchises. The anime's interesting characters won the hearts of viewers, while also provoking their ire with incredible antagonists like the infamous Madara Uchiha. Despite his standing as one of the primary antagonists of Naruto Shippuden , he had a lifetime of wisdom to draw on. This included the famous Madara speech in which he affirmed that the only things to truly exist in the world were suffering, futility, and pain.
As one of the main antagonists toward the end of the series, Madara rose from the dead to fulfill his lifelong dream of taking over the entire world. Torch-bearer for the Uchiha Clan and the epitome of their well-known superiority complex, Madara only ever lost to the Leaf Village's first Hokage, Hashirama Senju. Both wise and strong, many of the most profound Madara Uchiha quotes are a bleak reminder that in life hope is scarce and suffering is imminent.
Updated on July 14, 2024, by Natasha Elder : As fans excitedly await the four-episode return of the Naruto series, we decided to take another look at one of Naruto Shippuden 's biggest villains. Madara Uchiha is revealed to be behind the Akatsuki, using Obito to do his bidding. When he is brought back in full, he is exceptionally strong and has equally strong opinions on the current state of the world. We wanted to highlight more of the quotes that define this intriguing character, as well as add more images that depict his intimidating presence.
"Wherever There Is Light, There Are Always Shadows."
Naruto shippuden, episode 344, "obito and madara".
In this world, wherever there is light, there are always shadows. As long as there is a concept of victors, the vanquished will also exist. The selfish desire for peace gives rise to war. And hatred is born in order to love.
Madara Uchiha was hungry for power. This desire for power manifested in his desire to take over the entire world and make everyone kneel before him. However, along with his thirst for strength, Madara was also wise enough to know that in order to gain something, something else must be discarded . In a lot of ways, this was how he appealed to Obito, who in turn tried to use this same tactic on Sasuke.
Across the course of Naruto Shippuden , Madara made a lot of lofty speeches, and they weren't all hot air. Much like Naruto's speeches , Madara's were compelling due to their honesty. Many of these wise words had a lot of merit, but the ways Madara chose to implement his philosophy by forcing everyone to follow was his inevitable downfall.
"Wake Up To Reality!"
Wake up to reality. Nothing ever goes as planned in this world. The longer you live, the more you realize that only pain, suffering, and futility exist in this reality.
15 Best Jiraiya Quotes In Naruto
Jiraiya was the most influential person in Naruto's life. His kind heart and incredible skill made him one of the best characters in the series.
A challenging rival to Hashirama Senju in his prime , Madara Uchiha eventually befriended Hashirama, who later went on the become the Hokage of the Hidden Leaf Village. However, Madara’s best-laid plans fell through as the differences between him and Hashirama grew, leading them to their separate paths. Madara suffered a lot, determined to fulfill his dreams. Despite his determination, his dreams didn't work out, even after his reincarnation.
These words are just a fraction of Madara's speech, which is a bleak reminder that life's certainties aren't hopeful at all. In his view, all the current reality has to look forward to is endless suffering, which was probably influenced at least in part by the violent loss of his brother . This philosophy worked hand-in-hand with Pain's core belief, which explains why it was so easy for the Akatsuki to align with Madara early on.
"Five-to-One... It's Just the Right Ratio For Playing Games."
Naruto shippuden, episode 333, "risks of the reanimation jutsu".
It's not unfair. Five-to-one... It's just the right ratio for playing games.
Throughout the Naruto series, the strength of the Kage has never been in doubt. Tsunade is widely respected not only because of her incredible healing abilities but also because of her remarkable strength. Similarly, even before he became the Kazekage of Suna, Gaara was feared because of his powerful sand jutsu and large chakra reserves.
As such, when the Fifth Hokage Tsunade, Fifth Kazekage Gaara, Third Tsuchikage Onoki, Fifth Mizukage Mei Temuri, and Fourth Raikage A formed a formidable team in order to defeat Madara, it seemed as though he might have difficulties. Instead, he says this line, which emphasizes how strong he truly is, as he can afford to take this fight lightly . This is even though the Kages had already managed to land some hits on him, further emphasizing that he wasn’t actually trying.
"To Protect Something... Another Must be Sacrificed."
Naruto shippuden, episode 393, "a true ending".
They're two sides of the same coin... To protect something... another must be sacrificed.
Madara Uchiha is no stranger to loss. Due to growing up in a war, he understands that sometimes sacrifices must be made in order to protect something that matters more . In his case, he was risking his life on the battlefield to protect his clan. However, war is always dangerous, and he ends up losing his brother, Izuna, to the endless war against the Senju.
While he eventually builds what would eventually become Konoha with Hashirama, Madara wasn’t satisfied. In this case, he was willing to sacrifice peace to protect his ideas for the future of the Land of Fire. By starting another war, he would be able to achieve the ideal world that he had been striving for since the beginning, even though achieving such a thing would require more sacrifice from him.
"You Are Merely A Momentary Life."
Naruto manga, chapter 568, page 8.
Nine-Tails, you are merely a momentary life, a temporary existence of coalesced energy — energy that once was a single, ultimate form!
Kurama, also known as the Nine-Tails, was a tailed beast that was trapped inside Naruto Uzumaki's body. During the Fourth Shinobi World War, Naruto went up against Madara and fought him using all his powers. Being the powerful ninja he was, Madara communicated with the Nine-Tails, who was partly the source of Naruto's powers, trying to get into his head with a strongly worded truth to make sure Naruto failed in his endeavors.
Fortunately, Madara was wrong about both Kurama and Naruto. Neither of them were easily convinced toward failure, especially after they formed the bond and alliance that made them a truly unstoppable jinchuriki and tailed-beast duo. Despite the truth in Madara’s words, that everyone exists but momentarily, Kurama’s newfound loyalty to his jinchuriki and friend proved to be ironclad .
"Thinking of Peace Whilst Spilling Blood Is Something Only Humans Could Do."
Naruto: Shikamaru's 10 Best Quotes
Naruto's classmate Shikamaru Nara evolved from a lazy kid to a clever strategist, and these humorous and inspirational quotes capture his evolution.
During the Fourth Shinobi World War , Madara was the source of much bloodshed and heartache. While Naruto and the Allied Shinobi Forces fought tirelessly for peace, he pointed out the opposition in their desire to achieve peace through bloodshed . Even though they had no choice but to return attacks if they wanted to survive, it's impossible to imagine war ever actually leading to peace amid violence, and Madara knew that.
With so many left dead in the wake of war, the survivors have nothing to be proud of. The cost of peace was too high in Madara's mind, and his solution was to get rid of the need for it entirely. It is easy to see the flaw in Madara’s logic, however, as the alternate is giving up and dying earlier. Despite how bleak things may seem, fighting to protect others is the only way to see peace.
"This is Nothing."
Naruto shippuden, episode 332, "a will of stone".
I once fought a battle against him, putting my own life on the line. Compared to that, this is nothing.
Before his death , Hashirama Senju was the one who gave Madara his most difficult battles. Like all warriors, Madara felt the loss of his favorite opponent when he was reanimated in Naruto Shippuden . He spends much of his fight against the five Kages comparing them to Hashirama, particularly in the case of Tsunade, given that she is one of his descendants .
As part of this frequent comparison, Madara says this quote. This not only serves to emphasize the unusual bond he felt with Hashirama but also to undermine the power of the five Kage. Stating that their power combined falls short of one man is shocking to viewers, who know that much of the reason each of them is ruling over their respective cities is due to their impressive abilities.
"Man Seeks Peace, Yet At the Same Time Yearning For War ."
Naruto manga, chapter 661, pages 12-13.
Man seeks peace, yet at the same time yearning for war… Those are the two realms belonging solely to man.
Continuing his debate on the balance between war and peace, Madara's point about the nature of the two is simple. Stepping back and surveying life and the world, the only creature who strives toward peace and war is mankind . Most other animals, if not all, fight for food and survival. It seems an inevitability for humanity to long for one while hoping for the other, but the dual nature of the two makes it impossible.
Trapping mankind in a peaceful dream state with no war by implementing the Infinite Tsukuyomi genjutsu, which manipulates the senses , sounds ideal, but there were definitely flaws to his plan. Additionally, this takes away freedom from each individual as they don’t actually have control over themselves in their visions, being instead forced to remain in place while dreaming of their ideal worlds.
"The Five Kages Are Nothing Compared to Me."
Naruto shippuden, episode 339, "i will love you always".
The five Kages fighting Madara is one of the most interesting battles because each Kage gets to showcase their abilities. For example, it is intriguing to see that Tsunade can heal major wounds without hand signs. It is also interesting to watch as the Kages combine their unique attributes in powerful attacks to break through Madara’s defenses.
As they manage to destroy Madara’s clones, which have Susanoo active, it seems as though the Kage have a chance at beating Madara. After mentally commending their skill, however, Madara activates his own perfect Susanoo, effectively breaking away from their attacks. He also thinks this dialogue, proving that he is in a league entirely his own . The sheer power he exhibits once he activates the Susanoo state confirms that he wasn’t exaggerating about his own abilities.
"The Moment People Come to Know Love, They Run the Risk of Carrying Hate."
Naruto manga, chapter 416, page 15.
Madara's logic is sound. Without understanding the feelings associated with love, it's impossible to understand hatred. One cannot exist without the other, and yet people strive constantly to know and feel love and scorn the hatred they learn as well. While hatred should not drive actions, as it is an endless loop that encourages nothing but violence, it is an emotion as natural as love.
The problem with Madara's philosophy is that balance is required. Without hatred, it would be difficult to understand the power of love, and vice-versa. What humankind does with their understanding of that knowledge can't be predicted or measured, and sealing it all away in a dream-state utopia would solve nothing . Humankind would die out, withering away as they dreamed without truly learning anything at all.
"To Start a War… To Bring Peace."
Naruto manga, chapter 502, page 12.
Oh, you know… it's fun, it's part of my plan… to start a war… to bring peace.
Naruto: 20 Best Pain Quotes, Ranked
Pain hoped to achieve peace in the ninja world through pain and suffering in Naruto Shippuden, and his best quotes reflect his ultimate goal.
It was difficult for most people to understand Madara's goals, but when Minato Namikaze asked him why he was there, his flippant answer continued to define his overall philosophy to viewers. He reiterated his message that peace cannot exist without war, but that he believed he had found a way to bring peace without war using the Infinite Tsukuyomi. The shinobi of the Naruto universe were violently opposed to this plan, and they would do whatever it took to stop Madara from fulfilling his goal.
The Naruto shinobi did manage to stop him in the end — but at a great cost. The interesting part is that it's easy to imagine the greatest points of Madara's goals to achieve peace resonated with Naruto, who did everything in his power to create a united world where the problems that plagued humanity could be solved by working together instead of against each other. Naruto's idea isn't a perfect solution, but human nature isn't perfect either, and it needs a balance between philosophies like Madara's and Naruto's.
"I Want to Sever the Fate of This World."
Naruto shippuden, episode 344, "obito and madara".
I want to sever the fate of this world. A world of only victors. A world of only peace. A world of only Love. I will create such a world.
When making speeches about his spectacular vision for peace, it's hard not to see where Madara is coming from. Although he may not have the saddest backstory in Naruto , he still endured a great deal of pain, suffering, loss, and hatred in his lifetime, and for him, it was essential to rid the world of those things to achieve true peace . It's a lofty vision, and even somewhat noble to a point, but it was his end vision and his choices to achieve said goal that were the problem.
Taking the right to choose away from the rest of the world tainted Madara’s goal and made it seem more like a nightmare than a peaceful dream. There are powerful realizations to make when one steps back and analyzes the different views people share when it comes to peace. Regardless of the suffering the world endures, in the end, it should remain in the hands of people who choose to do better.
"I Am... The Ghost of the Uchiha"
This Madara quote resonates with fans of Naruto and Naruto Shippuden because one of the earliest characters they are introduced to, Sasuke Uchiha, is driven to take revenge on his brother, Itachi, for killing his family . With Sasuke, Itachi, Obito, and Madara being the only remaining Uchiha, it is chilling to hear Madara talking about being the ghost of the clan. Madara’s claim of being the ghost of the Uchihas means that he is representing the hurt and anger that has been brewing through generations due to their unfair treatment.
From the establishment of Konoha, the Uchiha clan had been treated unfairly. Tobirama Senju even admitted that he made the Uchiha the patrolling police in the town to limit their ability to grow more influential. This consistent oppression resulted in the Uchiha starting to plan a rebellion — until Itachi suppressed it by slaughtering everyone but Sasuke.
"Power Is Not Will..."
Naruto shippuden, episode 333, "the risks of the impure world reincarnation".
Power is not will, it is the phenomenon of physically making things happen.
Madara craved power. While he certainly displayed intense prowess with his jutsu — especially forbidden jutsu — as well as his non-jutsu capabilities, he didn't believe he was powerful because he failed to achieve that which he set out to do. He spent his life and his reincarnation striving to achieve the power he sought, only to fail in death once again.
One of the most interesting things about Madara Uchiha as a character is how willing he was to demonstrate his incredible power and control. Unlike Nagato, who trusted that Naruto would do whatever it took to achieve the world their sensei, Jiraiya, wanted to see, Madara would never see past the idealistic nature of Jiraiya's hopes for peace. He had to be in control, believing that only he had the power to make things happen .
"Use the Darkness In Their Hearts."
I taught you that in order to control people, you need to use the darkness in their hearts. And if there's no darkness, then you just create it…
20 Best Naruto Uzumaki Quotes, Ranked
Naruto's inspiring journey teaches the importance of maintaining strong resolve, never giving up, and believing in oneself to achieve success.
Madara corrupted Obito Uchiha using the slowest and most painful power: manipulation . Despite his rivalry with Kakashi, Obito had no darkness in his heart until Madara saved him from the cave collapse. By slowly turning him against his loved ones and friends, it became easier for Madara to manipulate Obito to play the part of Madara until it was time to resurrect him. Using the same strategy Madara used on him, Obito sowed seeds of darkness into Sasuke's already broken heart and turned him against the Hidden Leaf Village with a skewed version of the truth.
Obito had seen too much suffering himself to be able to deny the merit of Madara's philosophy. Had he been in control of the situation when he was younger, things might have gone very differently for Rin, Kakashi, and Obito himself. Though he was redeemed in the end, Obito spent years listening to the poisonous tales Madara and Zetsu spun for him.

11 . Oh, you know…it’s fun, it’s part of my plan…to start a war…to bring peace. – Madara Uchiha

23 . How good can there be in power if you can not protect those you love? -Madara Uchiha

And all that war achieves is needless destruction and ruthless murder.

8 Most Eye-Opening Madara Uchiha Moments From Naruto
One of the many things that make the "Naruto" anime series unique among its peers is its dedication to settling disputes with words, not fists. This can be seen in the first storyline in the original series, where Naruto Uzumaki appeals to the humanity of Zabuza Momochi over the death of Haku, which leads to Zabuza sacrificing his life to take down Gatō and his men. Even in "The Last: Naruto the Movie," Naruto showed mercy to Toneri Ōtsutsuki despite everything he put Naruto and Hinata through and even invited him to stay on Earth after learning the horrible truth about his clan. That's not to say Naruto is above raising a fist or two, but in general, the knuckleheaded ninja is more concerned with reasoning with his enemies than taking their lives.
That's what made the introduction of Madara Uchiha in the series so interesting. Madara was the complete antithesis of Naruto Uzumaki, an ego-driven maniac shaped by the countless wars he'd lived through and the tragedies he'd endured such as losing his little brother, Izuna Uchiha. This was a villain that had zero interest in words, only action. Madara's lust for power, revenge, and a challenge from a worthy adversary led to some of the most eye-opening moments in the "Naruto: Shippuden" anime series.
Summoning an asteroid (Tengai Shinsei)
The terrifying power of Madara Uchiha was often described as one of a god, so it's fitting that one of Maradara's first major actions after being revived was to summon a meteorite from the sky with the intent of killing everyone on the battlefield. This wasn't just a random act of a vengeful god, but a jutsu called the Tengai Shinsei. The Tengai Shinsei allows the user to draw massive meteorites from above and land them to their desired destination. Here's the kicker: if the first meteorite fails to do the job, the user can summon another one and have it collide with the first one. The Fourth Division learned this the hard way after stopping Madara's first meteorite attack, only to be blindsided by the second. Even Madara wasn't immune to his own attack, as evident by the aftermath. Interestingly enough, this move wasn't named in the anime or manga but by the games, specifically "Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3" and "J-Stars Victory Vs."
Casting the Infinite Tsukuyomi
One of Madara Uchiha's most powerful moves isn't associated with pain but deception. The Infinite Tsukuyomi is a genjutsu of extraordinary power. By reflecting his Rinne Sharingan onto the moon, Madara was able to enslave the ninja populace in their own dreams, while their bodies were drained of chakra for the God Tree. What's particularly cruel about this genjutsu is that the victim is trapped within their most desired fantasy, such as Hinata Hyūga fantasizing about being in a loving relationship with Naruto Uzumaki while her cousin, Neji Hyūga, is not only alive but happily watching from afar. Another cruel example is Lady Tsunade imagining a Village Hidden in the Leaves where all her loved ones didn't tragically die, as well as Gaara dreaming of a happy childhood with his parents. Considering Madara's complicated feelings about the loss of his little brother Izuna, one could see his use of the Infinite Tsukuyomi as giving those the blissful joy he wished he could have.
Defeating the Shinobi Alliance
Among the thousands of fight scenes that have occurred throughout the "Naruto" anime series, Madara Uchiha vs. the Shinobi Alliance easily ranks in the top 10. Kicking off the "Fourth Shinobi World War: Climax" storyline, Kabuto Yakushi reanimates the corpse of Madara and sends him out to the battlefield against the Shinobi Alliance via the summoning powers of Mū. It's a fight scene that has to be seen; Madara effortlessly takes down one shinobi after another, almost like he's performing an eloquent dance. Perhaps the most striking visual from the fight scene is one ninja throwing a kunai knife with a paper bomb attached at Madara — but Madara grabs the kunai, slaps the paper bomb on another ninja, fatally sends the kunai back to its owner, then goes back to kicking butt before the bomb goes off, after which he emerges from the smoke to kick even more butt. It's without a doubt one of the best anime fight scenes in "Naruto Shippuden."
Snubbed by Hashirama Senju
There is no doubt that Madara Uchiha is one of the strongest villains in the "Naruto" anime series. He proved it and then some with his amazing fighting abilities during the Fourth Shinobi World War. However, even an intimidating fella like Madara can be knocked down a peg in the most unexpected ways. Case in point, his hilarious reaction to being snubbed by his childhood friend and rival Hashirama Senju after the two are brought back to life. The two of them have a ... let's just say complicated relationship. To keep it brief, the associations of their respected clans made it impossible for Hashirama and Madara to continue to be friends during their original lifetime. Despite being pitted against each other countless times, Hashirama could never kill someone he once considered a friend and Madara could never surpass Hashirama in combat (this would change, however). During the climax of the Fourth Shinobi World War, Madara senses Hashirama's presence and eagerly requests a rematch with him. Hashirama, trying to deal with other matters at hand, tells Madara to wait. Madara's face going from childlike joy to complete disappointment after hearing that comment is priceless.
Praising Might Guy
Madara Uchiha might be a psychopath, but he's still a man of honor — just look at the amount of respect he showed Might Guy during their battle in the Fourth Shinobi World War. In what's probably one of the top ten fights in the "Naruto: Shippuden" series, Guy initiates the Eight Gates Released Formation to face Madara and eventually uses a forbidden jutsu called Night Guy, which transforms himself into a red dragon made of chakra to deliver an incredible kick at an accelerating speed. While the move delivered a devastating blow to Madara, the recoil shattered the bones in Guy's right leg. Even though Madara was able to recover from Guy's ultimate attack, he still praised his opponent for the incredible skill he displayed, calling Guy the strongest taijutsu user he ever faced. Following the end of the Fourth Shinobi World War, Guy is forever bound to a wheelchair. His disability, however, hasn't stopped him from being the Guy everyone knows and loves in "Boruto: Naruto Next Generations."
Fighting the Tailed Beasts
Not even the awesome power of the legendary Tailed Beasts was enough to subdue Madara Uchiha. After being completely resurrected, Madara set his sights on defeating the released Tailed Beasts, such as Naruto Uzumaki's Kurama (Nine-Tails) and Gaara's Shukaku (One-Tail), to revive the dreaded Ten-Tails. Round one went poorly for Madara, as the overwhelming might of the Tailed Beasts managed to chop off his right arm. He was also fighting them completely blind, as the resurrection process caused his eyes to crumble like dust. However, after Madara received a Rinnegan from one of his White Zetsu clones and "borrowed" an arm from them as well, his second assault against the Tailed Beasts went off without a hitch. Madara summoned the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path and sealed the Tailed Beasts inside to resurrect the Ten-Tails once again. Although the Tailed Beasts were able to get in a few licks on Madara, thanks to the leadership of Gaara and Shukaku, their combined power wasn't enough to defeat Madara in battle.
Wiping out the Five Kage
The final storyline of "Naruto Shippuden" didn't hold back on establishing the dominance of Madara Uchiha. News of his reemergence was enough to kickstart the Fourth Shinobi World War and have all the Kage of the Five Great Shinobi Countries unite to take him down. The Five Kage at the time of the story was: Tsunade (Village Hidden in the Leaves), Gaara (Village Hidden by Sand), Mei Terumī (Village Hidden in the Mist), A (Village Hidden by Clouds), and Ōnoki (Village Hidden by Rocks). Despite assembling all the great ninja leaders to fight together side by side, the Five Kage eventually succumbed to Madara's might. What really did them in was Madara creating 25 copies of himself, each with its own Susanoo (a humanoid avatar of chakra). Even after the Kages defeated all of Madara's wood clones, the madman initiated his perfected Susanoo. If not for Kabuto Yakushi trying to send Madara back to the land of the dead (and Madara canceling that command), the Five Kage might have met their end.
Madara Uchiha vs. Naruto Uzumaki
It's only fitting that with the "Naruto" series focusing so much on the relationship between Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha — "Naruto: Shippuden" in particular — that the two of them would be responsible for defeating Madara Uchiha. Of course, things didn't go down that easily. Throughout the Fourth Shinobi World War, both Naruto and Sasuke were hanging on a thread of life when they fought against Madara. Sasuke being impaled by his own sword and Naruto nearly succumbing to death following the extraction of the Nine-Tails inside of him were just some of the blows they endured from Madara. However, after awakening a new power inside themselves, Naruto and Sasuke teamed up to take Madara down. What made this fight different from the last is that the two of them found a weak spot in Madara's Limbo: Border Jail, a jutsu that allowed Madara to summon versions of himself from another world to attack or defend on his command while being completely untraceable. Madara only escaped death from Naruto's and Sasuke's signature moves by sacrificing his precious Limbo jutsu. Their fight didn't have a definitive conclusion, as Madara was ultimately betrayed by Black Zetsu for the resurrection of Kaguya Ōtsutsuki.
