Samantha has so evolved as a performer, where her name has become a selling point along with the other aspects of a film. Samantha is coming with a film Yashoda, where she plays the lead role. The trailer was intriguing and hinted at conspiracy around the concept of surrogacy. The movie was released today in theaters. Check out the review.

What Is It About?

Yashoda (Samantha) a food delivery girl agrees to become a surrogate mother for a large sum of money. She will be sent to a highly sophisticated surrogate facility owned by Madhubala (Varalakshmi Sarathkumar). Yashoda learns that something is not right at the facility and she gets shocked seeing gruesome incidents happening there. On the other side, there is an active murder investigation of a business tycoon that leads to a stunning end. How is it linked to Yashoda’s story and what she does thereafter form the rest of the story.

Performances

Samantha gave an apt performance in the role of Yashoda. This role is a cakewalk for her, yet the effort she put into crossing the ‘t’s and dotting the ‘I’s could be seen in this dual-shaded role. This time she had to do the action part also and she has done it effortlessly. 

Varalakshmi Sarathkumar appears as a dangerous woman in a cold blood. Most of her roles were aggressive and yelling types, but In Yashoda she had to be subtle yet ruthless. She did quite well. Unni Mukundan supported her well. Sampath Raj, Murli Sharma, and others were alright in their respective roles. Kalpika, Divya Sripada, and others will be seen in brief roles. 

Technicalities

The storyline of Yashoda is interesting. For the concept, the movie hardly needed outdoor shots. Most of the sets looked fine while some shots in the facility appear to be heavily inspired by Hollywood sci-fi thrillers. The concept of confining the inmates with illusion walls is an unusual setup. The screenplay is good. Background music by Manisharma is alright.

Slow First Half Predictable episodes Routine Climax

Analysis  

There were many movies based on the concept of surrogacy earlier. This plot of Yashoda is a plot developed from real investigative research that is untouched in films so far. A woman in need of money agrees to be a surrogate mother for an unknown billionaire and reaches a state-of-the-art facility for the same. Smelling a conspiracy, she digs deeper to unturn the dark truths only to find a giant mafia. 

The first half of Yashoda is slow with the setup in the surrogacy facility, with friends and character establishment. But it gets interesting as the narrative gets into the plot a little deeper toward the interval block. The pre-interval to interval sequences are rightly done promising an intriguing second half. The plot could be sensed on whole, but the details remain blurred until the revelations slowly turn up

The second half is more gripping and intriguing with each twist and turn. From Madhu’s flashback to the establishment of the murder investigation link, there are some good twists that turned out well. The concept of narrating two parallel stories back and forth without disclosing a link between them and that too until the latter second half is adventurous. If one side derails, there is a chance that by the time the link is established, the narration might have looked bumpy. That balance and suspense link between the two sides is maintained well by the director duo. 

On the downside, a perverted security guard, a highly monitored facility with umpteen blindspots, and a spine-chilling mafia setup with opened exit doors are some routine cinematic liberties that could have been worked differently. The emotional blocks in the pre-climax are too conventional. 

The thrill factor worked mostly while the emotional episodes are cliched. The climax is obvious with some routine action blocks. Overall, Yashoda is a decent thriller with a few stereotyped scenes. 

Bottomline: Decent Thriller With Suspense Elements !

Yashoda Movie : What's Behind

Samantha's Yashoda has been the cynosure of all eyes ever since its announcement. The film directed by Hari and Harish is releasing today on November 11, 2022. The film's OTT partner is Amazon Prime and it has bagged the rights for a whopping amount of Rs 45crs. The OTT streaming will be underway after Yashoda's theatrical run. The film's teasers and trailers got tremendous responses and Samantha indulging in high-octane stunts became the talking point. To top of it, Samantha revealed that she is suffering from a rare disease myositis, and sympathy increased in her. Let us find out whether Sympathy for Samantha powered Yashoda at the box office or not.

Yashoda Movie Story Review

Yashoda story is all about surrogacy and the dark secrets behind it. Yashoda (Samantha) a poor girl in order to help her sister pursue her studies and get her married, decides to become a surrogate mother. She is taken to Eva Hospital facility and as days progress she finds something fishy going on. Where this leads to, whether Samatha delivers a baby, what is its connection to the mysterious murders happening in the city, and how they are related to EVA Hospital top brass Madhubala (Varalaxmi Sarathkumar), Dr. Gautam (Unni Mukundan), Union Minister Giridhar (Rao Ramesh), police officer Rishi (Shatru) and military officer Vasudev (Shatru) from the crux of Yashoda.

Yashoda Movie : Artists, Technicians Review

Yashoda's story is all about surrogacy and they tried to surprise viewers with a medical thriller. The story and plot chosen by Hari and Harish are novel and completely different from the ones we have seen in medical thrillers. The narration starts off in an interesting and exciting way with mysterious murders and Samantha is then introduced as a girl who opts for surrogacy due to financial constraints. The parallel narration generates interest to a point but the hospital scenes where Samantha interacts with others dip down the proceedings. But the director duo scored points by including the emotional angle into it. Artificiality increased during the hospital scenes unlike the investigation scenes involving Murali Sharma, Sampath Raj, and Shatru. But curiosity levels increase once Samantha finds out interesting and shocking things in the hospital during the pre-interval and interval scenes. This set the stage for the gripping second half with Samantha taking charge. This excites viewers and Samantha's role is elevated to the core thrilling her fans. But when the stage is set for the next level takeoff, the flashback featuring Varalakshmi Sarathkumar and Unni Mukundan, and Rao Ramesh dips the proceedings. There are many scenes in the film in the second half when viewers think that the film come to end but it drags on and on till the routine climax brings down the curtains to Yashoda. Hari and Harish's screenplay is fine to some point but at times it went for a toss. The same is with the script and the story. Samantha during the last few years has been reinventing herself by doing different performance-oriented roles. Samantha with Yashoda showed her acting prowess once again. She showed variations in her expressions and emotions. At the start, she played the role of an innocent girl out to help her sister and then shows her curiosity to find out the mysterious happenings in the hospital. Samantha indulged in breathtaking stunts and also emoted well showing her feelings as a pregnant woman. For all her performance, the character arc in the film all Samantha's hard work failed to elevate it to the next level. The dialogues of Pulagam Chinnarayana and Bhagyalakshmi are impactful and thought-provoking. They highlighted the emotions quite well. Varalakshmi Sarathkumar played the role typical to her appearance and of late she is getting similar kinds of roles. But her flashback episode turned out to be artificial. Unni Mukundan performed the supporting role well as the doctor. His role comes with a surprise. But Unni Mukundan's role could have been elevated more. Rao Ramesh once again entertained with his dialogue delivery and antics and expressions. Shatru, Sampath Raj, and others performed according to their roles. Mani Sharma's music is just ok. None of the songs get registered. His background music is in sync with the story and took viewers along with them. The cinematography of Sukumar is good and gave a rich feel to the scenes. The editing of Marthand K Venkatesh is ok but could have been far better as there are a few drags in the film.

Yashoda Movie : Rating Analysis

Samantha's Yashoda with Hari and Harish generated immense interest among movie lovers with interesting teasers and trailers. Hari and Harish tried to show Samantha in a completely different role and expose the surrogacy scandals showing Samantha as the surrogate mother. This is quite interesting and with the interesting concept and plot, they proceeded ahead. They started the proceedings in an interesting way but in between, they failed to maintain the tempo as the screenplay went uneven. It went from racy to patchy and artificial and routine elements marred their creativity. Had Hari and Harish included a few more interesting twists and turns to thrill the viewers, Yashoda could have made an even better impact. Yashoda for the brilliant start and interesting interval bang in the end turned routine with the climax. Altogether Yashoda is an interesting medical thriller that failed to show more power. Considering all these aspects, Cinejosh goes with a 2.5 rating for Yashoda.

Yashoda is a film that Samantha had pinned a lot of hopes on. Due to her ill health she could not promote it as well. The film directed by Hari and Harish has finally hit the screens today. Let’s see how it is.

Yashoda(Samantha) is a poor girl who agrees to become a surrogate mother. She is taken to Eva, a surrogacy center owned by Madhu(Varalakshmi Sarath Kumar). Things start well for Yashoda but one small incident creates a doubt in her mind. She then takes it upon herself to find out the truth behind the surrogacy mafia. How she unravels it is the main story.

Plus Points:

The basic backdrop of surrogacy is new for Telugu cinema and has been set up nicely in the narrative. This gives Yashoda a completely new edge. The director duo set up the whole surrogacy concept well and created an intriguing factor right from the beginning.

Varalakshmi Sarath Kumar is getting better with each film and gets a meaty part once again. She as the head of the surrogacy center is amazing. Her flashback in the second half with Rao Ramesh is very good. Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan is also neat in his role.

The second half is where the actual action begins as the twists executed are very good. The action part and suspense elements have been unravelled quite well in the second half. Kalpika Ganesh is good in her role along with Murali Sharma and Sampath who play cops.

Last but not the least, Samantha gives her life and soul to the film and is stunning as Yashoda. Be it the way she managed the pregnant setup or did the action part, Samantha is in top form. Yashoda is completely based on her character and Sam holds fort superbly. Not to miss her action movies and endearing emotion when she comes to know the actual surrogacy scam give the film a good depth.

Minus Points:

One of the biggest minus points of the film are the logical issues. The film is set in a surrogacy center which is shown as hitech and filled with cameras. But Sam escapes them easily. Such scenes are plenty and look a bit over the top.

The film starts on an interesting note until Samantha reaches the surrogacy center. From there, the film falls flat as scenes related to ragging and details of the center drag for no reason. A more linear screenplay and crisp narrative would have made matters better.

The film could have been more emotionally strong as the actual cause of Varalakshmi turning into a certain manner is not showcased well. More depth and pain in her role would have made the purpose of the villain more intense. In a way, the bonding between key characters is weak.

Technical Aspects:

Music by Mani Sharma is good and the BGM creates a solid impact in the proceedings. The camera work is very good but the art department needs a special mention as the surrogacy center looks cool. The lyrics and dialogues by Pulagam Chinninarayana and Bhagyalakshmi are also very good. Production values are amazing.

Coming to the director duo Hari and Harish, they have done a good job with the film. They, casting Samantha, for such a role is half battle won. They have taken a new backdrop which many do not know and created a good story around it.

Hari and Harish manage to enhance the film with neat twists and thrills in the second half. There are a few logical issues in their narrative but the twists cover them up nicely. As they waste too much time in the first half, they don’t have much time to create more impact in the flashback which was a key. But still, they narrate the film in such a way that the normal audience would not observe these errors and enjoy the film.

On the whole, Yashoda is Samantha’s one woman show. Right from the first frame, she carries the film on her shoulders and gives a solid performance. A few logical errors and slow start are basic drawbacks. If you ignore these aspects, Yashoda has an interesting backdrop and makes for a decent watch this weekend.

Yashoda Starring Samantha Ruth Prabhu to Stream December 9 on Amazon Prime Video

Yashoda , starring Samantha Ruth Prabhu, will be available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video from December 9, the streamer announced on Tuesday.

In a press release, the Amazon streaming service said the Telugu movie will also be available to its subscribers with dubs in Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam languages.

Directed by filmmaker duo Hareesh Narayan and K. Hari Shankar, the survival thriller featured Prabhu in the titular role of Yashoda , a woman who agrees to join a surrogate program out of desperation to find her missing sister. Things start to go haywire when revelations about the high-end surrogate facility come to light.

“When Yashoda was written, we knew that the audience would find this thrilling adventure worth watching. Samantha's performance, and the incredible work done by the team has all paid off well. We are extremely thrilled with the response that the film has gotten across the country and cannot wait for the response of the global audience,” co-director Narayan said in a prepared statement.

His partner Shanker added to the statement, saying, “ Yashoda is a rare masterpiece in India's sci-fi genre, and a lot of exemplary minds have come together to bring the story to screen. Such stories from the south Indian film industry are doing wonders pan-India, and that in itself is a matter of great pride for the team. We are thankful to Prime Video for allowing us the global platform that this film deserves.”

Yashoda OTT Release Date & Time: Samantha's Sci-Fi Thriller Will Stream From Dec 9 On Prime Video!

Samantha Ruth Prabhu's latest venture, Yashoda, a science fiction thriller movie, written and directed by Hari and Harish, was released all over the world on November 11. The movie is based on real-life crimes around surrogacy. Yashoda is receiving love from the fans of the actress and was met with a decent response at the box office.

Yashoda is the first pan-India venture of the actress and marks the Tollywood debut of the director duo Hari and Harish. The fans of the actress have erected full-size blown-up cut-outs of Samantha in places like Vijayawada, Vizag, Hyderabad, Vizianagaram, Nandyal, Kakinada, and other places to celebrate the film's release. The movie is receiving positive-to-mixed reviews from fans and critics.

The movie's digital streaming rights were sold off to Amazon Prime Video reportedly. The movie, due to its success, will be released for digital streaming only six weeks after the theatrical run. However, the movie ventured into the digital platform rather quickly. The movie will be available for the Amazon Prime Video subscribers to stream from December 9. The movie is available in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada.

Yashoda stars Rao Ramesh, Murali Sharma, Unni Mukundan, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Sampath Raj, Shatru, and Josh Ravi among others in pivotal roles. The movie also has Kalpika Ganesh, Madhurima, and Divyasripada in supporting roles.

Sivalenka Krishna Prasad produced the film under the Sridevi Movies banner. M Sukumar and Marthand K Venkatesh worked as the cinematographer and editor of the film, respectively. Mani Sharma's background score was quite enhancing. Hollywood stunt choreographer Yannick Ben composed the fights for Samantha in the film.

Yashoda OTT Release Date

Actress Samantha starrer survival thriller Yashoda released in theaters on November 11, 2022 and now the movie is all set for a digital release on Amazon Prime Video. The OTT release date of the movie has been officially announced as December 9, 2022 [Friday].

Written and directed by Hari-Harish duo, Yashoda features Samantha in the titular role alongside names like Unni Mukundhan, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Rao Ramesh, Sampath Raj, Murali Sharma among others. The film comes with a runtime of 132 minutes and and tells the tale of a woman who agrees to be a surrogate mother for money.

How she finds herself trapped in a world of uncertainties and makes her way out from a myriad of politicians, doctors, and other powerful conspiracies forms the rest of the story. The movie has Mani Sharma for music.

Nunakkuzhi Movie Review In Telugu: మలయాళ డైరెక్టర్ జీతు జోసెఫ్‌కు తెలుగులోను మంచి క్రేజ్ ఉంది. ఆయన నుంచి వచ్చిన దృశ్యం, దృశ్యం 2, నెరు, 12th మ్యాన్ సినిమాలు మంచి సక్సెస్ సాధించాయి. అయితే ఇవన్ని క్రైమ్ అండ్ ఇన్వెస్టిగేషన్‌ జానర్‌లో సాగుతుంటాయి. కానీ, తన స్టైల్‌కు విభిన్నంగా కామెడీ జానర్‌లో జీతు జోసెఫ్ తెరకెక్కించిన సినిమానే నునాక్కుజి.

ఆగస్ట్ 15న మలయాళం మంచి హిట్ కొట్టిన నునాక్కుజి మూవీ సెప్టెంబర్ 13 నుంచి జీ5 ఓటీటీ లో మలయాళంతోపాటు తెలుగు, కన్నడ, తమిళం, హిందీ భాషల్లో స్ట్రీమింగ్ అవుతోంది. ఐఎమ్‌డీబీ నుంచి 10కి 7 రేటింగ్ అందుకున్న ఈ డార్క్ కామెడీ మూవీ ఎలా ఉందో నునాక్కుజి రివ్యూ లో తెలుసుకుందాం.

తండ్రి మరణించడంతో ఎండీగా కంపెనీ బాధ్యతలు తీసుకుంటాడు ఎబీ జకారియా (బసిల్ జోసెఫ్). పెళ్లై మూడు నెలలు అయిన ఎబీకి కంపెనీ వ్యవహారాలను పెద్దగా పట్టించుకోడు. భార్యతోనే మాట్లాడుతుంటాడు. ఈ సమయంలోనే ఇన్‌కమ్ ట్యాక్స్ ఆఫీసర్స్ వచ్చి కొన్ని లెక్కలు సరిగా లేవని ఎబీ ల్యాప్‌టాప్‌తో సహా కొన్ని వస్తువులు సీజ్ చేసి పట్టుకుపోతారు. అయితే, ఆ ల్యాప్‌ట్యాప్‌లో తన భార్యతో ఇంటిమేట్ అయిన వీడియో ఉంటుంది.

ఇన్‌కమ్ ట్యాక్స్ ఆఫీసర్‌ను కలిసి తన ల్యాప్‌ట్యాప్ తెచ్చుకునేందుకు ఎబీ ప్రయత్నిస్తుంటాడు. ఈ క్రమంలో రష్మిత రంజిత్ (గ్రేస్ ఆంటోనీ) ప్లాట్‌లోకి దూరుతాడు. ఆ తర్వాత ఏమైంది? రష్మిత ప్లాట్‌లో ఎబీకి దూరాల్సిన అవసరం ఏమొచ్చింది? అసలు రష్మిత రంజిత్ ఎవరు? ఆమె కథ ఏంటీ తనకు తెలియకుండా ఎబీ పురుగుల మందు ఎందుకు తాగాల్సి వచ్చింది? డెంటిస్ట్ జయదేవన్ ఎవరు? అతని కథేంటీ? స్టార్ హీరో సుందర్ నాథ్ కహానీ ఏంటీ? వీళ్లంతా ఒక్కచోటికి ఎందుకు చేరారు? అసలు ఎబీకి తన ల్యాప్‌ట్యాప్ దొరికిందా? అనే విషయాలు తెలియాలంటే నునాక్కుజి చూడాల్సిందే.

అర్థరాత్రి ఇద్దరు వ్యక్తులు ఓ హోటల్‌కు వెళ్లడం, అక్కడ పెద్ద గొడవ జరగడంతో సినిమా స్టార్ట్ అవుతుంది. ఈ ఇద్దరిని బైక్‌పై చూపిస్తూ వచ్చే పాటతో సినిమా కథను చెప్పి చెప్పినట్లుగా దాదాపుగా రివీల్ చేశారు. కానీ, క్లైమాక్స్ వస్తేకానీ అది అర్థం కాదు. ఎబీ కంపెనీ బాధ్యతలు తీసుకోవడం, ఇన్‌కమ్ ట్యాక్స్ రైడ్ జరగడం, ల్యాప్‌ట్యాప్ సీజ్ చేయడం, అందులో భార్యతో కలిసి ఉన్న ప్రైవేట్ వీడియో ఉండటం అంతా ఫాస్ట్‌గా సాగిపోతుంది.

మరోవైపు రష్మిత రంజిత్ డివోర్స్, డెంటిస్ట్‌పై రివేంజ్ తీర్చుకోవడం వంటివి చూపిస్తూ కథలోని లీనమయ్యేలా చేశారు. ఆ తర్వాత ల్యాప్‌ట్యాప్‌ను దక్కించుకునేందుకు ఎబీ చేసే ప్రయత్నాలు, పురుగుల మందు తాగిన ఎబీని కాపాడేక్రమంలో రష్మిత ఇరుక్కోవడం, వారిని ఎస్సై ఇంట్రాగేట్ చేయడం, మరోవైపు హీరో సుందర్ స్వామినాథన్‌కు ఇన్‌కమ్ ట్యాక్స్ ఆఫీసర్ మేనల్లుడు సినిమా కథ చెప్పడం సన్నివేశాలతో బోర్ కొట్టకుండా అలా సాగిపోతుంది.

క్లైమాక్స్ ట్విస్ట్

అయితే, ఆద్యం కామెడీ, నవ్వు తెప్పించే డైలాగ్స్‌తో సినిమా బోర్ కొట్టకుండా ఎంగేజింగ్‌గా సాగుతుంది. కానీ, మధ్యలో ఎక్కడా కూడా ఇంట్రెస్టింగ్‌ గా, థ్రిల్‌కు గురయ్యే ట్విస్టులు ఏం రావు. అదొక్కటే మైనస్. అయితే, క్లైమాక్స్‌లో వచ్చే ఒక్క ట్విస్ట్ మాత్రం చాలా బాగుంటుంది. అలాగే షాక్‌కు గురయ్యేలా చేసి, ఆ వెంటనే నవ్వుతెప్పిస్తుంది. కోర్ట్ సీన్స్ చాలా కామెడీగా సాగుతుంది. కోర్ట్ వ్యవహారాలు, పోలీసుల ఇంట్రాగేషన్, హీరోల కథలపై జడ్జ్‌మెంట్, ఫ్యాన్స్ వంటివాటని డార్క్ కామెడీతో చాలా బాగా చూపించారు.

బ్యాక్ గ్రౌండ్ మ్యూజిక్, సినిమాటోగ్రఫీ బాగుంది. ఇక డైరెక్టర్ కమ్ యాక్టర్ బసిల్ జోసెఫ్ నటనతో ఇరగదీశాడు. అతని నటన సినిమాకే మెయిన్ హైలెట్. అలాగే, ప్రతి ఒక్కరు నటనతో చాలా బాగా చేశారు. అందుకే పెద్దగా స్టోరీ లేకున్నా వారి నటనతో ఎంగేజ్ అవుతాం. అయితే, ఊహించని ట్విస్టులతో క్రైమ్ థ్రిల్లర్స్ తెరకెక్కించే జీతూ జోసెఫ్ అంచనాలను అందుకోలేడనే చెప్పాలి. తన జానర్ వదిలేసి డార్క్ కామెడీ అనే ఫ్రెష్ జానర్‌ను తన స్థాయిలో కాకున్నా బాగానే రక్తికట్టించారు.
