The Cunning Rat Story

A tale about betrayal.

Betrayal is a spark for stories to bloom in front of our eyes.

It is important in literature because it surprises the reader when it happens in the story. It pleases their curiosity, causing them to go for the book with two eager hands and devour it.

They also teach us how to understand others and how they behave. These stories, especially for children, provide a solid foundation for understanding the basics of emotions. In this story, we will read a betrayal story and the moral behind it.

Once upon a time, in a little den, there lived a cunning rat. When the rat was about to go out in search of food, he came across a cat.

This cat seemed to be watching intently at the den's entrance. "If I go now, the cat will definitely eat me alive," the rat thought. The rat then had an idea. He rushed down through the rat colony to his friend's den. Unlike him, the cunning rat's friend was simple.

The simple rat was astonished when he saw his friend. The simple rat greets his friend after a long time apart. The cunning rat asks the simple rat, "Did you know there's a cornfield right outside?  I just discovered it and decided it wouldn't be good to eat alone. So I rushed over to invite you."

The simple rat exclaimed, "This is amazing news!" "Friend, lead the way. Finally, we'll enjoy a delicious meal!" Being well aware of the cat's presence, the cunning rat thought of yet another plan to trick the poor rat. The cunning rat replies, "How can I?" "I've admired you since we were little. I'm afraid I won't be able to do such a shameful thing as lead you! Please, lead the way. I shall follow you."

Because it was a simple rat, it didn't suspect anything and led the way. They soon arrived at the door to their tiny den. Because the simple rat had no idea about the cat waiting outside, he stepped out unprotected. When the cat noticed the simple rat, he jumped on it and killed it.

The clever mouse, on the other hand, raced for the cornfield. "Stupid rat, he fell for my trap!" the cunning rat exclaimed without regret. An eagle swooped down from nowhere and grabbed the cunning rat away just as it was about to reach the cornfield.

No matter what the cunning rat tried, he was unable to escape. "Oh no, I'm going to be killed and eaten like my friend!" he cried.

Moral of The Story

The best part is that reading moral stories to your child at an early age not only helps them learn important life lessons but also helps them develop their language skills. This story reminds us not to be cruel since it will eventually happen to us as well.

The story in the article shows how people trick others in order to fulfil their desires. These short stories with moral values can teach your child essential life lessons that will benefit them in the future.

FAQs on The Cunning Rat Story

1. Did the cunning rat escape death in the story?

No, an eagle swooped down from nowhere and grabbed the cunning rat away just as it was about to reach the cornfield. No matter what the cunning rat tried, he was unable to escape.

2. How did the cunning rat trick his friend?

The cunning rat asks the simple rat, "Did you know there's a cornfield right outside?  I just discovered it and decided it wouldn't be good to eat alone. So I rushed over to invite you." As the simple rat could not suspect anything, it got tricked.

The Benefits and Considerations of Keeping Pet Rats

How it works

Owning pets has been a part of human life for ages. People keep pets for companionship, fun, and even emotional support. Sure, dogs and cats are the usual picks, but more folks are finding out how cool it is to have pet rats. Now, I know what you’re thinking—rats have a bad rep. But domestic rats (Rattus norvegicus domestica) are actually smart, loving, and really social. Let’s dive into why pet rats are awesome, backed by science and expert views.

  • 1 The Smarts and Trainability of Pet Rats
  • 2 Social Creatures and Emotional Connections
  • 3 Taking Care of Pet Rats
  • 4 Clearing Up Some Myths
  • 5 Wrapping It Up
  • 6 References

The Smarts and Trainability of Pet Rats

First off, rats are super smart. Studies show their brains are pretty advanced, kind of like dogs and even some monkeys. There’s this one study in Current Biology that found rats can do metacognition, which means they can think about their own thinking. Crazy, right? This makes them easy to train and fun to have around.

You can teach rats all sorts of tricks. They can run through mazes, come when called, and even understand gestures and voice commands. Training them isn’t just fun; it’s good for their brains too. Keeping their minds busy helps stop them from getting bored and acting out. Plus, it makes life more interesting for both the rats and their owners.

Social Creatures and Emotional Connections

Rats are super social and love hanging out with their buddies and their human friends. A study from the University of Washington found that rats show complex social behaviors like empathy. They’d rather help a friend in trouble than take a food reward. This shows they can feel and care for others, making them great companions.

Rats love being around people. They enjoy being petted and might even groom you back, showing their affection. This bond can be really comforting, especially if you’re looking for a pet to help with stress or loneliness. Many studies say pets can help reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. Rats, with their friendly and loving nature, fit right into this idea.

Taking Care of Pet Rats

While having pet rats is great, you gotta know how to take care of them. They’re pretty low-maintenance, but they do need certain things. A good cage with enough space for them to play and sleep is a must. Fill it with fun stuff like tunnels and chew toys to keep them happy and busy.

Feeding them right is also important. They need a balanced diet with quality rat food, fresh fruits, veggies, and sometimes protein. Regular vet check-ups are a good idea to keep an eye on their health. Rats don’t live very long, usually 2-3 years, which can be tough. But it also means you can give them a good life in a short time.

Clearing Up Some Myths

People often have the wrong idea about pet rats. One big myth is that rats are dirty and carry diseases. Actually, domestic rats are clean and groom themselves a lot. If you keep their cage clean, they’re no more likely to carry diseases than other pets. The National Fancy Rat Society (NFRS) says good hygiene and regular cleaning can prevent health issues.

Another myth is that rats are mean and bite. Wild rats might, but domestic rats are usually gentle if they’re socialized right. If a rat bites, it’s often because it’s scared or uncomfortable. With patience and positive reinforcement, most rats become friendly and trusting.

Wrapping It Up

In the end, pet rats are a unique and rewarding choice. They’re smart, trainable, and affectionate. They do need some specific care, but the emotional support and fun they bring are worth it. By busting common myths and giving them a loving home, rats can thrive and form strong bonds with their owners. As people look for different pets to keep, rats stand out as a cool and lovable option.

Short Essay On Cats

  • Long Essay On My Favourite Pet Cat
  • Fun Facts About Cats That Kids Should Know

What Your Will Child Learn From The Essay?

Cats are beloved pets known for their cute, furry appearances, serious expressions, carefree attitudes, and silly antics that captivate people worldwide. Their long history of coexistence with humans has led to an enduring fascination, with some even questioning whether we have domesticated them or they have domesticated us.

Cats have a unique charm that sets them apart from other pets. From playful kittens to graceful adults, cats possess an irresistible appeal that has made them a staple in popular culture, with countless books, movies, and TV shows featuring feline characters. In this article, we will go over what makes cats a favourite and show you how to write cat essays in English for classes 1, 2 and 3 in short and long forms.

Here are some essential tips on how to write an essay on cats:

  • If you plan to write about your pet cat in the essay exclusively, start from their adoption and continue the essay writing about their behaviour.
  • When writing a generic essay about cats, discuss their habits, food preferences, instincts, and general nature.
  • Long-form essays should have introductory and concluding sentences/paragraphs.
  • A good essay can balance information about your cat’s behaviour and nature.

If your little one could use some help describing cats, this section about the appearance of cats will come in handy.

Cats & Their Appearance

The common cat is a four-legged mammal with furry skin, soft paws, attentive ears, and a heightened sense of alertness. They are born with different colours such as black, white, grey, orange and sometimes a mix of all the three. The fur on cats is to protect them from cold. They have soft, padded paws that dampen noise when they are hunting or moving about. They also have long whiskers around their nose to sense the movement of prey and a rough tongue to scrape the flesh off of bones. Cats are carnivores that hunt little animals in the wild. An adult cat can weigh between 3.5 to 4.5 kilos.

This 10-line my pet cat essay is easy to follow for children in classes 1 and 2. Here is how you can frame 10 lines on cats:

  • I have a pet cat, and his name is fluffy.
  • Fluffy is a male cat with a long furry tail.
  • He is white with orange stripes on different parts of his body.
  • Fluffy is a good boy and behaves well all the time.
  • He poops in his litter box and eats up all his food without making a mess.
  • Sometimes he becomes very playful and runs all around the house.
  • Fluffy follows me wherever I go and sleeps below my desk all the time.
  • He also loves to relax and laze around everywhere in the house.
  • Fluffy loves spending time cuddling with us and makes soft purring sounds.
  • I love my pet cat, Fluffy, and I know he loves me a lot, too.

Paragraph On Cats

Here is an example of my pet cat essay in around 100 words:

My pet cat is an orange tabby named Lizzy. We raised Lizzy since she was a 12-week-old kitten. She is nine months old now and loves to play all the time. She likes to chase her toy ball around the house. She also chews on all my stuff and pulls the curtains and sheets. When she is not playing, she wants to eat and sleep. I always look for Lizzy the first thing in the morning when I wake up, and I pet her goodnight before going to sleep.

A short essay is an excellent exercise to establish flow and narrative. Here is an example of a ‘My Pet Cat’ essay in 150 to 200 words:

We have a pet cat in the house called Momo. He is a stray we adopted from our street when he was three months old. Momo has been in our family for two years now. He stays inside the house and lazes around all day but is very energetic at night. That’s when he loves to run around and often topples things in the house.

Having a pet cat is a huge responsibility. Since letting them outside exposes them to diseases and other dangers, you must provide them with everything inside the house. Cats need fresh and healthy food, a litterbox to poop in, and a good bed to sleep on. They also have to be vaccinated against several diseases to ensure their safety.

Cats are carnivores by nature. Momo loves to eat chicken, fish, dry cat food, and wet cat food. Sometimes, he also brings the small animals he hunts from the garden inside the house. Everybody in the family loves Momo, and he loves us back even more. Although they appear calm, cats have a different way of showing affection to their owners. Momo loves me when he slowly blinks his eyes when I call out for him or curls up beside my feet when I study.

Long Essay On My Favourite Pet Cat

A long, descriptive essay on my pet cat requires children to plan for what they wish to include in the essay and build a good narrative. Here is an example of an essay for Class 3:

My pet cat, Rocket, is a Maine Coon cat. As a popular breed for its size and furry looks, Rocket is as impressive as any pet can get! He is white, black, and grey and quite a graceful-looking feline by his appearance. He sits majestically and walks majestically but sleeps in silly postures. He loves spending his time with me or outside looking at birds sitting in the backyard.

I’ve always wanted to have a pet cat that is furry and cute. Maine Coon is my favourite cat breed as I think they are the most majestic-looking cats in the world. These cats live in cold climates and higher latitudes where it snows and the temperature regularly falls below freezing levels. Because their natural habitat is cold, they naturally have thick fur. Therefore, we must take extra precautions to ensure Rocket doesn’t get too hot in the lower latitudes we live in. He gets his air-conditioned room where the temperature is always maintained cool. It has his bed, play area, and a window leading him to the backyard.

Rocket spends most of his time indoors during hot summer days, sleeping in my room. We also give him a haircut to make him feel more comfortable. When it’s colder outside, he likes to venture into the garden and hunt little animals. Even though we give him all the best foods, his hunting instincts remain the same as all other cats. He often hunts little birds, pigeons, chipmunks, and other unfortunate critters wandering into the garden.

Rocket also loves to be pet and cuddled. He likes it when I scratch his back with a comb. When he is not the apex predator in the garden, he is a silly cat playing with random things in the house. I cannot wish for a better pet than Rocket!

Fun Facts About Cats That Kids Should Know

Some cool facts about cats for children:

  • Cats are excellent jumpers – they can jump six times their height.
  • Cats always land on their feet when they fall.
  • Cats spend 13 to 16 hours sleeping during the day.
  • One year of a cat’s life is approximately equal to 15 years of human life.
  • Cats show affection to their owners by slowly opening and closing their eyes.

By studying the examples given above and writing an essay on ‘My Pet Animal’ or ‘My Pet Cat’, your child can learn how to express their observation and knowledge about cats in short and long essays. These examples will equip your little one with ideas on how to present information about their pet cat sequentially for their own composition.

English Essay, Paragraph, Speech on “The Rat” for Kids, Students of Class 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 CBSE, ICSE Board Examination.

The only good thing that can be said for rats is that they get up a lot of rubbish, especially bad meat and other kinds of food that would cause disease if left about. But rats make up for any good they may do in this way by the amount of good food they devour, and by the diseases, they bring to men. Rats are great thieves, and they destroy every year large amounts of grain and human food of every kind. And as their numbers increase very quickly, if they were not kept down they would swarm in such numbers as to destroy all the food, and even drive people out of their villages and towns. So men are always at war with rats, and yet the rats still swarm.

In India, rats are especially dangerous because they carry the plaque flea, whose bite gives people the dreadful disease called plague. If rats increase in great numbers in any place and are not driven out of people’s houses, the people are sooner or later attacked by the plague, which may spread rapidly all over a whole province and cause thousands of deaths. The only way to keep the plague away is to kill the rats which bring it.

Rats live in villages and towns because there they can find such a lot of food. They hide in holes, drains, and dark cellars under the houses, and come out at night to steal. There are different ways of catching and killing them. Cats and certain kinds of dogs are good rat-catchers and can be trained to catch and kill. Rats are also caught in traps baited with cheese, fat, or meat. And they are often killed in large numbers by poisoned meat placed near their holes.

Every ship carries hundreds of rats, who hide in the hold and eat any food they can find. This is the way rats have been spread all over the world. It is thought that rats first came from China; but now men have, without wanting to do so, carried them to Europe and America, and every country, where they have become a pest and a danger.

Write an essay on ‘If you were the Chief Minister of the state’.

Solution Show Solution

First of all, I shall try my level best to make my country a strong and self-respecting nation. India will be a great power and no other country will dare attack India.

The second thing I will do will be the fullest and genuine attention to the poorest and the lowliest. I shall endeavor to give full employment to at least one member of each house-hold. It will be my attempt to keep the prices under control. I shall try to streamline the public distribution system further and supply the essential commodities to the poor at subsidized rates. I shall try to make the taxation system more useful and rational. Whereas the rich may be taxed heavily, the poor and the middle classes will be spared.

The third thing, to which I shall devote my energy, is the education system. I shall raise its standard and make it based on merit and for all. The examination system will be overhauled so that there is no copying and the real merit of a student is readily discernible. Much more attention will be given to admission to professional colleges on the basis of merit. There will be reservation only on economic grounds and not on caste basis.

The fourth thing deserving my fullest attention will be the population control. Without it, our country will be ruined. Then I shall also take care of important and productive fields like agriculture, industry, oil production, mining, increase in exports etc. Above all, I shall try to raise the moral standard of the people and make them more patriotic. I shall also try to root out evils of terrorism, communalism, provincialism, drug-taking, dowry system, drinking etc.
