Battlefield V Assignments

  • Edit source

BF5 Assignments

Assignments are challenges featured in Battlefield V . Similar to past installments, players must complete specific tasks in order to complete them. Four categories of assignments are available: special assignments, challenge assignments, Tides of War assignments, and daily orders. Special assignments feature two to five specific tasks with two, three, or all tasks needing to be finished in order to complete the respective assignment. Upon completion, special assignments will award Company Coin , other awards such as Dog Tags or cosmetic options. Three Daily Orders are available at any time and are refreshed every twenty-four hours, requiring only one task to be completed. Upon completion, players will be awarded Company Coin and XP .

Battlefield 5: how to track Assignments, Special Assignments, Mastery Assignments and rewards

Assignments have been overhauled in Battlefield 5, but how they work, and how you can get more of them isn't always clear.

As we explained in our Battlefield 5 tips , Assignments are one of the progression items you'll need to stay on top of as you play the game.

Assignments are not only a great source for Company Coin (in-game currency), they can also reward XP - and more importantly - cosmetic items for your soldiers and weapons. In this guide, we hope to make it easy to understand, choose, equip, and track Assignments.

Assignments, explained

In Battlefield 5, Assignments are more like quests than they are challenges. In simple terms, Assignments are much more tasking versions of Orders. Only instead of having one requirement you can easily fulfil in a day, they're meant to be completed over time.

In response to feedback in Battlefield 1 and previous games in the series, DICE made Assignments more accessible this time around. Depending on the reward, an Assignment could have anywhere from two to four or five requirements. Crucially, however, you won't always have to complete all associated tasks.

At the very top of the Assignment's description, you'll note that it's asking you to complete two or three of the listed objectives. Often, the harder tasks will be tracked per game. DICE made sure to always include an easier, more grindy version for those unable to do the high-pressure equivalent - and their progress instead carries on from match to match.

For instance, you'll come across requirements like 'get ten kills with a weapon in a round', in contrast to 'do 3,000 damage with a weapon'. You can always try to go for the former, but if you only manage to get nine of the ten required kills, this particular tracker will reset in the next round. The easier option is to obviously go for the damage dealt task, but the flip side is that it'll take you longer to achieve.

Take your time to read each requirement carefully, because you may find that one of them falls completely outside your typical play style. If that's the case, ignoring that task could mean getting stuck on an Assignment for weeks.

If you never fly in Battlefield 5, it doesn't make sense to accept a plane-based Assignment, even if some of the other objectives are doable as an infantry. The only thing you need to worry about is whether any of the doable tasks are enough for you to clear the Assignment and claim the reward.

Once you've unlocked all class weapons and reached a high enough level, Assignments will start to make up a more crucial component of your play. You'll move on to chasing Company Coin, and cosmetic items for your favourite weapons - and Assignments will help get you there more efficiently.

battlefield 5 special assignments

How to get new Assignments

Assignments are doled out in a few different ways in Battlefield 5. You have your basic weapon, and class Assignments, which are unlocked the more you use the weapon/play the class they're associated with.

These often reward low-tier cosmetic items for use with your weapon or class. In fact, if you browse the available options for the different weapon grips or outfit pieces you'll find most of them locked behind Special Assignments. For weapons, the game will say which Assignment you need to complete to earn the reward, but it currently does not do the same for soldier outfits.

Like the weapons and classes themselves, Assignments also come in different levels . It starts out with Proficiency, goes through a few levels of those until it culminates with Mastery. This is true for both weapon, and class Assignments.

Weapon and class Mastery Assignments unlock higher tiers (rarer) rewards for your class or weapon. Naturally, you'll only get these if you spend enough time with that class/weapon. Their requirements are also more challenging than the basic version, but they reward Epic gear.

Maxing out your class level for each of the four classes - currently at 20 - unlocks Mastery Assignments in the same way. Likewise, when completed, they award very good-looking cosmetics, or rarer colours for existing pieces. Once again, these won't be easy, with the Recon ones especially being a pain in the ass. For weapons, Mastery Assignments unlock the more exquisite camos.

Special Assignments

Some Special Assignments were given as pre-order bonuses, and they're essentially similar to the Special Assignments deluxe edition owners get. In both cases, if you didn't pre-order/opt for the more expensive edition, you won't have access to them.

They're themed around real-world operations by the British Special Air Service (SAS), and the German Fallschirmjager troops in the war. In all cases, they reward Company Coin. Since CCs can be used to buy weapon Specializations and certain cosmetic items, they're meant to give players who pre-ordered/bought the deluxe edition a bit of an edge, but they don't have exclusive rewards beyond that.

We should also mention Basic Training Assignments , which are the easiest to do. These also reward Company Coin, and are good to stock up on in case you're not feeling the rest of what's available to you, or you're just looking to grind some CCs.

Assignment rewards

The Assignments page in Battlefield 5 is smartly laid out. It lets you easily see the requirements and rewards of each Assignment before you commit, as well as for those you already have equipped. Sadly, you can't preview the rewards themselves from the same menu.

You certainly can remember the name and return to the customisation menu to see the item, however. In some cases, completing Assignments unlocks more Assignments. This is common with the Proficiency Assignments . On top of the usual rewards, you'll also unlock a higher tier of the same Assignment. Completing Proficiency 2 unlocks Proficiency 3 and so on.

The higher tiers in turn give you access to better rewards, but require more finesse, as we outlined above. As always, you can discard what you don't like, or ones you've picked up but don't think you'll be able to finish.

How to track Assignment progress

Unlike Orders, Assignments don't refresh daily - but they do rotate. Like we mentioned in our Battlefield 5 tips , it's always recommended that you check the list regularly.

In-game, bringing up the menu (Esc) will display a concise tracker on the right for both Daily Orders, and Assignments. You can also select Assignments from the same menu for a detailed reminder of your objectives. Even better, Battlefield 5 always tracks your Assignment progress in the background, and you'll get a subtle popup on the left side of the screen anytime you make progress.

It can sometimes be hard to track whether or not your most recent kill counts as an "objective kill" or just a normal kill. Watching that tracker ensures you're always informed of your progress.

In the launch version of Battlefield 5, you're not able to discard Assignments or sign up for new ones mid-match. This needs to be done from the main menu, outside of the match. It's not ideal, but it's something DICE is working on improving .

Battlefield 5  – Assault, Medic, Support, and Recon Final Unlocks

As you can see from the Rank 20 unlocks above, each class gets its own final weapon: the Gewehr 1-5 for Assault, the M1928A1 SMG for Medic, the MG 42 for Support, and the KAR98K for Recon. While these weapons will likely be balanced to ensure that high ranks don’t have an unfair advantage, it’s still nice to have a high-rank unlock for showing off just how much you’ve played that class!

Battlefield 5  – Which Class to Level Up First?

When you look through the above unlocks, you should see a few items that tickle your fancy. It’s probably a good idea to focus on that class to begin with. If you do end up struggling to rank up, however, changing to Assault always offers a consistently solid experience, with a power weapon and useful gadgets. If murdering the opposition isn’t your main priority, you can of course opt to take on the role of Medic or Support, which can heal and resupply your teammates. You’ll get a lot of love when distributing those Medic and Ammo Crates. The Recon class can also be useful for spotting the enemy and weakening fortified points from range. Being flexible and switching roles when needed is key to being the best Battlefield player.

10 essential Battlefield 5 tips to know before you play

These are the Battlefield 5 tips you need to know before jumping into its WW2 themed multiplayer

Battlefield 5 tips

Arming yourself with some Battlefield 5 tips can help you come out on top against your multiplayer opponents, as you get to grips with the large scale, class based multiplayer skirmishes taking place in the World War 2 setting. There's no modern warfare taking place here, so you'll need to get good at the basics then build upon that foundation to become a force to be reckoned with in the theater of war. You won’t find any crazy gimmicks like Levelution or Behemoths here, soldier, as Battlefield 5 is a summation of smaller, subtler tweaks to the franchise’s DNA. Resultantly, the less obvious additions to multiplayer are worth knowing about for staying on top of the food chain, so these are the ten biggest essential Battlefield 5 tips to know before playing things to know before you jump in and play online.

1. Spotting now requires binoculars

Battlefield 5 tips

In previous Battlefield games, you could tag enemies by pressing a button while aiming at them down a sniper scope. That way, everyone on your team knew where they were and could plan accordingly. In Battlefield 5, spotting has been dialled back somewhat. No longer can you pick out players through your sniper scope: you need to switch to your binoculars and tag them.

Of course, only Scout players have binoculars so if you’re playing with a full squad, make sure one of your pals is rocking Scout in order to spot the enemy team. Another change to spotting is that tags don’t persist when an enemy breaks line of sight. If they go behind a rock or building, they won’t be tagged anymore for you. It’s fairer and a lot more realistic (in real-life, soldiers can’t track enemies behind walls believe it or not), so spamming the spot key doesn’t help as much as it used to.

2. Squad up

Battlefield 5 tips

Squadplay has been given some welcome TLC in Battlefield 5, as a core tenet of the multiplayer ecosystem. That means you ought to a join and stay in a squad even when playing as a lone soldier, as there’s huge benefits to doing so. For one thing, squadmates can spawn in on each other, and Battlefield 5 encourages players to do so by transitioning to a squad spectator mode whenever they die.

Furthermore, all members of a squad can now revive each other regardless of what class they’re playing as, while Battlefield 5’s scarcity of ammo makes the Support class more important than ever. So, find your three brothers or sisters in arms, make sure that team comp is tip top, and get fighting.

3. Build, build, build

Battlefield 5 tips

One of Battlefield 5’s biggest new features is the Fortifications system, whereby any player can build (or indeed destroy) defenses at a variety of capture points or chokeholds across all eight of the multiplayer maps available at launch. Simply bring out your hammer, and the user interface will show you where any available Fortifications can be placed in the nearby terrain, at which point you simply need to hold down the build button to set them up.

The Support class can build at twice the speed of any other, so those who prefer to play Battlefield 5 like an intense game of Fortnite should select this soldier from their company. But pick your moments carefully; it’s not always worth placing down Fortifications during, say, a game of Conquest, when players are dispersed more evenly across the map. Instead, prioritise building when your team are tasked with defending a specific perimeter, but try not to leave yourself vulnerable to a stray sniper shot.

4. Take advantage of supply stations

Battlefield 5 tips

When you spawn, you don’t start with much ammo at all. If you’re involved in a lot of engagements right from the get-go, you’ll run out of ammo swiftly. Keep an eye out for supply stations - even from the start of each life, they give you more ammo than you’re carrying.

They’re not just for ammo either. Health doesn’t automatically regenerate the same way as in previous Battlefield games, so you need to rely on either a medic dropping you a health pack or you can heal yourself up at a supply station. There’s only a few on each map, so make sure you take note of where each one is if you need to recover.

5. Remember to crawl on your back

Battlefield 5 tips

There’s been too many occasions when we’ve been playing a first-person shooter, prone on the floor providing covering fire for some teammates when we start hearing shots from behind us. Of course, we’ve had to turn around slowly on the ground to try and return fire, but by that time, we’re long dead.

Now when you’re prone and you turn around 180 degrees, rather than spinning round on the floor, you’ll change position to essentially be on your back. This allows you to turn much quicker and retain your position, so you don’t make yourself more visible by standing up. Hopefully more games follow suit, as it’s a welcome addition and it looks badass.

6. Specialise your guns and vehicles

Battlefield 5 tips

In addition to customisation options for each member of your company in Battlefield 5, every gun and vehicle in the gun now has its own specialisation tree, which can be levelled up through expenditure of the in-game currency known as Battlefield Coins. These will allow you to deck out your favourite weapons and transport with bespoke abilities and perks, while also encouraging repeated employment of these gadgets to get a better feel for each.

For example, upgrading the MG42 with a larger magazine and faster rate of fire will improve its effectiveness as a suppressive Support weapon, while adding a longer range scope to the Kar 98k with an added damage perk will turn it into a devastating sniper rifle for the Recon lovers. Meanwhile, you might remove the jericho sirens from your Stuka plane to make it less noisy, or outfit your tiger tank with a faster repair ability to last longer in combat. The choice is completely up to you, just don’t forget to make a decision once you’ve earned enough Battlefield Coins to do so.

7. Make the most of being squad leader

Battlefield 5 tips

So, you’ve been promoted to squad leader. You lucky thing, you. By implementing Battlefield 4’s Commander feature more seamlessly into the gameplay, Battlefield 5 lets the leader of any squad call in unique and valuable resources for their team during multiplayer matches. Achieving team based objectives within your team of four, such as capturing objectives or defusing a bomb, will earn the squad with a currency called Resources.

These can then be spent by the squad leader to call in Reinforcements, which can be selected from the social wheel in-game. Leaders can deploy all sorts of helpful Reinforcements from this menu, from ammo filled supply drops to devastating missile drones that can decimate dozens of enemies at a time. So if you are the leader, make sure to issue orders to earn those Resources as quickly as possible, as the rewards for doing so will soon make themselves apparent.

8. Experiment with Combat Roles

Battlefield 5 tips

Classes have been a part of Battlefield since the very beginning, and Battlefield 5 adds new layers to the system with the introduction of Combat Roles. These are essentially subclasses that can be selected for the Assault, Medic, Support, and Recon roles, which allow players to experiment between varying playstyles.

For example, Assault players can choose between the Light Infantry or Tank Buster Combat Roles, with the former equipped with perks and abilities focused on surviving at the frontlines, and the latter built towards doing exactly what it sounds like. What’s more, you can swap between these specialisations whenever you like, so if you think your team could use a specific type of soldier to help turn the tide, then feel free to quickly jump into the class customisation menu and switch over.

9. Don’t forget to heal

Battlefield 5 tips

Battlefield 5 introduces a new, self-healing mechanic into its core gunplay to change up the pace of multiplayer. Every class in the game is equipped with one health pack, and the game will prompt players to manually heal themselves when their character gets dangerously close to death, though you can use it whenever you want.

While life bars do eventually recover automatically over time, you’ll need to keep well stocked of these health packs in multiplayer either way, so ask a Support class for a resupply or look for a nearby ammunition crate once you’ve run out. The last thing you’ll want is to be stuck in the middle of a firefight desperately waiting for your lifebar to slowly climb back to full health.

10. Keep an eye out for Daily Orders and Special Assignments

Battlefield 5 tips

Daily Orders and Special Assignments are Battlefield 5’s recurring multiplayer challenges that players can pick up from the main menu, four at a time, and many of these are tailored towards specific classes and playstyles.

They might be as simple as getting headshots as the Recon or resupplying squadmates with ammunition as a Support, but completing each one will earn you more experience points to level up your company, weapons, and vehicles with. This will thus quicken the rate at which you unlock new content for multiplayer, so don’t forget to pick up your fresh batch of Special Assignments and Daily Orders as soon they go live in the game.

All Battlefield 5 Special Assignments in Lightning Strikes

battlefield 5 special assignments

With each new chapter of Battlefield 5’s Tides of War , DICE introduces a new list of Special Assignments. Just like Overture , the first chapter of Tides of War; a new set of Battlefield 5 Special Assignments is now available with the Lightning Strikes chapter.

All Seven Battlefield 5 Special Assignments in Tides of War Chapter 2

Each Special Assignment in Lightning Strikes requires players to complete either one of two or three possible objectives. Completing one of these Battlefield 5 Special Assignments will reward the player with large amounts of XP. Once you unlock them by reaching the associated Chapter Rank , you can find the new Special Assignments in the Assignments section of the main menu; here, you can track up to four of the assignments at any one time. Overall, there are seven new assignments coming with Lightning Strikes, and these are as follows.

How Rewards and Progression Work in Battlefield V – Tides of War and Chapter 1: Overture

What to expect from the first weeks and the future of your evolving battlefield v..

Tides of War has reached Battlefield™ V . The first chapter – Chapter 1: Overture – is here, kicking off an evolving battlefield where all kinds of new experiences are coming your way.

In this post, we’ll answer questions on your progression through Tides of War; what it will mean to you, and what unique challenges and rewards it enables.

What is Tides of War? Available to all  Battlefield V  players, Tides of War will let you continue your  Battlefield V  journey through seasonal events. Tides of War consists of multi-week Chapters, each with its own unique theme and gameplay possibilities. A new Chapter can also bring new battlefields, challenges, modes, weapons, progression options, and more to your  Battlefield V  experience.

What challenges do the Chapters contain? There will be weekly Chapter Events in each Chapter. As visualized in the image above, these can be described as themed challenge trees where you choose the path, picking in-game challenges. The Chapter Event during the first week of Chapter 1 revolves around Attrition and Fortifications, for instance. You’ll be rewarded with things like weapons or visual customization items at the end of each tree.

Do the Chapters come with more Assignments? Yes, Tides of War also contains new Assignments – unique to the currently active Chapters. Just like regular Battlefield V Assignments, these consist of a group of tasks where you need to fulfill some or all of the objectives to earn a reward. For example, the Assignment “Three Kills” challenges you to complete any two of three challenges (get a set number of headshots, get a set number of kills while bipod is deployed, or get a triple kill.)

What is Chapter XP and Chapter Rank – and how do I earn it? As you play Battlefield V during a Tides of War Chapter, you earn XP which works towards a unique Chapter Rank. Each time you level up your Chapter Rank, you’ll be rewarded. Hit the battlefield regularly during each Chapter and you may reach its coveted maximum Chapter Rank.

Do I earn Chapter XP from playing things that aren’t part of the Chapter? Yes, everything that you do that normally generates XP in Battlefield V multiplayer works towards your Chapter Rank. For example, a regular game of Team Deathmatch that’s not tied to Tides of War will help you climb the Chapter Ranks. However, the most effective way is by completing the weekly challenges which will net you a big chunk of Chapter XP.

What rewards do I get from climbing the Chapter Ranks? For each Chapter Rank-up, you’ll unlock rewards like imposing soldier outfits, stunning weapon skins, dashing Dog Tags, challenging Special Assignments, and other items, some unique to the Chapter.

What if I miss out on a Chapter Event reward, will I be able to get that in some other way? When you complete the final challenge in the Chapter Event, you will earn the reward for that week and be able to use it immediately in your next round. And yes, gameplay content released this way will also be obtainable by other playable means for everyone after the week has ended.

What Chapter Events will be part of Chapter 1: Overture? The weekly Chapter Events, along with their rewards and dates, are as follows:

Attrition and Fortifications (Dec. 6 – Dec. 12): Ammo and medical supplies are not unlimited in Battlefield V . Resupply yourself and your team in a challenge tree where you choose the path. Earn the mighty VGO medium machine gun for the Support Class in this one. Get tips on how to complete Attrition and Fortifications .

Squad Play and Reinforcements (Dec. 13 – Dec. 19): Stay close to your squad mates this week. Assist them with kills, revives, and enemy spotting in a series of challenges. Your reward? The Axis Ratburner Helmet.

Vehicles and Classes (Dec. 20 – Dec. 26): Master your tanks, planes, and other vehicles in this one. To complete the chained challenges, you can also choose to take on class-related anti-vehicle tasks. Complete the Chapter Event, and you’ll be able to equip your Recon soldiers with the Selbstlader 1906 self-loading rifle.

Grand Operations and Modes (Dec. 27 – Jan 5):  Chapter 1: Overture ends with a focus on Grand Operations. Paradrop down into this vast multiplayer experience and complete unique challenges.

You’ll make your Assault class happy with the final reward: an AG m/42 semi-automatic rifle.

What are the chapter-specific Assignments during Chapter 1: Overture? Below are the four Assignments you’ll be able to tackle in Chapter 1. Jump into  Battlefield V  to see exact requirements for each task.
