The rotational Quantitative Analytics program is designed to provide you with the opportunity to gain comprehensive professional and industry experience that prepares you to develop, implement, calibrate, and validate various analytical models. What will you do?

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Developing and validating models for different uses under the direction of experienced team members according to the track of your choice: 

The Capital Markets Track  deals with the mathematical models for pricing, hedging and risking complex financial instruments. Wells Fargo trading portfolios include products in all traded asset classes such as credit, commodity, Equity, FX Rate, Mortgages, and Asset-Backed Finance.

The Risk Analytics & Decision Science Track  deals with the statistical, econometric, and machine-learning/AI models for a variety of applications, including loss and revenue forecasting, credit decisions, financial crimes, fair lending, operational risks, and analysis of unstructured data such as text and audio.

  • Use Python, R, C++, SAS, SQL or other programming languages as well as mathematical/statistical packages for model development and validation
  • Perform mathematical model development and validation (risk assessment) under the direction of experienced team members
  • Produce required documentation to evidence model development or validation
  • Understand business needs and providing possible solutions through clear verbal and written communications to management and fellow team members
  • Stay up to speed on industry challenges and new and innovative modeling techniques used across Wells Fargo to solve business problems or enhance business capabilities.
  • Participate in model related projects for varying purposes, methodologies and relevant lines of business

Program structure and desired qualifications:

  • Full-time program for Master's and PhD candidates. This is a 12-month rotational program that starts in July (1-month classroom training followed by two rotations).
  • Summer internship for Master's and PhD candidates. Program length is 10 weeks.
  • Enrolled in a Master’s or PhD program in: Statistics, Applied or Computational Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, Physics, Quantitative Finance, Operations Research, Data Science, Engineering or related quantitative field or a related quantitative field
  • Excellent computer programing skills and use of statistical software packages such as Python, R, SAS, SQL, Spark, Java, and C++
  • Strong verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills
  • For the Capital Markets Track : Experience and demonstrated knowledge in mathematical and numerical methods including Monte Carlo methods, differential equations, linear algebra, applied probability, and statistics
  • For the Risk Analytics & Decision Science Track : Experience and demonstrated first-hand knowledge in a number of these areas: data analysis, statistical modeling, machine learning/AI models, data management, and computing

Auburn University

Auburn, AL Positions: 4 Type of Student: Graduate Deadline: January 9, 2023

Auburn University is accepting applications for their Fall 2023 cohort in their National Science Foundation Research Traineeship (NRT) Program on Climate Resilience in the Southeast.

This is an interdisciplinary program in which candidates accepted into Auburn’s graduate program from an array of schools and departments, including math and statistics, can apply. Funded trainees receive a $34,000 stipend per year for up to two years, qualify for the Auburn graduate out-of-state tuition and instate tuition waivers, and have a set amount of semester student fees paid.

Funded trainees must either be a US citizen or permanent resident. Unfunded trainees may receive departmental support in lieu of NSF funding. Both groups of students have the same expectations and qualify to participate in all aspects of the program.

The NRT program’s goal is to train the next generation of scientists and leaders to help build resilient communities that are prepared for, can effectively respond to, and quickly recover from damaging hazard events in the southeastern United States. MS and PhD students will conduct research within an integrated and multidisciplinary framework with the aim to better understand, predict, and communicate the resilience of natural, social, and built environmental systems.

They will gain hands-on experience with regulatory research projects under the guidance of an expert OB mentor, using real or simulated data to address real problems in a stimulating, collaborative, and supportive environment. Past research project areas have included modeling and simulation, missing data, noninferiority trials, multiple endpoints, adaptive designs, Bayesian design and analysis methods, meta-analyses, benefit-risk analyses, subgroup analyses, biosimilars, patient experience data, and data mining. Interns have been involved in the development of statistical methods, software tools, and new drug application databases for the analysis of pre-clinical and pre- and post-market clinical data.

Interns are expected to participate in the internship 40 hours per week at our headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland, with their mentor and cohort. Participants may be able to conduct offsite training on a temporary basis while the mentor and FDA staff are working offsite because of the national COVID-19 public health emergency.

As part of the internship program, interns will prepare a written report and 30-minute presentation summarizing the work.

Successful candidates must be legally eligible to work in the US. It is the student’s responsibility to obtain the appropriate work authorization, if applicable. As required by current immigration law, an internship offer is contingent upon the student’s ability to provide the appropriate documentation to prove work eligibility prior to the start of the internship.

Our program is administered by and paid through the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) via its contract to operate with the US Department of Energy. US citizenship is not required for participation. Due to requirements for issuance of an official FDA identification card, individuals selected for participation must be able to successfully pass a tier 1 background investigation for the federal government. To do so, participants must have maintained residence in the United States for a minimum of 36 of the past 60 months as of March 1, 2023. F-1 individuals with curricular or optional practical training authorization are eligible, as are J-1 students with academic training authorization or J-1 exchange visitors.

  • Work on programming simplifications/efficiencies under the guidance of the statistics team.

Internship Qualifications:

  • MS or PhD in Statistics or a related field.
  • Knowledge of data handling and statistical analysis programming in SAS, JMP, or R.
  • Knowledge of experimental design, linear mixed models, and regression.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
