Many pagans, therefore, converted into Christianity with the promise to celebrate their tradition still today. Historical evidence does not substantiate whether Jesus was born on December 25 or not.

“Feast day of Christ” can also be explained as the meaning of Christmas. The idea originated in Germany, but Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, who later spread it to the rest of the western world. This event was intended to make the whole family enjoy a day before December 25. You know it is Christmas season when you walk down the street and see them lit up with decorations, lights, and Christmas trees.

Christmas preparations generally begin on Christmas eve, which includes buying decorations, food as well as lots of gifts for everybody, including the children in the family and our beloved friends. It is a picture that brings my heart warmth. So, this Christmas, let us make sure everyone can be joyous and can take part in this celebration.

Anyone can recite this speech for a Christmas church service or celebration. It's an excellent segue into a Christmas program, such as a cantata. This speech discusses why Jesus was born and the plan God had for His son's life and every soul.

The birth of Jesus the Christ was prophesied in the Old Testament. It is the fulfillment of this prophecy that brings us together to celebrate Christmas. That wondrous birth of God's only begotten son! It was God's plan, as explained in John 3:16, part of what I just quoted. The love that God has for this world, for each of us, and for you is so great that he was willing to sacrifice his only son for you, for me, and for all people in this world.

Think about that for a moment.

Consider the enormity of that kind of love because we know that God loved his son. Just as you love your children, your parents love you, and you love your parents. For us, it's impossible to comprehend the greatness of God's love for us. His love was so deep that he willingly sacrificed his son for the souls of all humanity for the sake of your soul.

During Christmas, when we consider the birth of Christ, it isn't just a celebration of him being born as the son of God, although that within itself is an amazing event! But Christmas is also the celebration of the birth of redemption for all human souls.

Jesus was born for this reason and this reason alone. His birth means, as the rest of that Bible verse states, "that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

Each of you was given the keys to heaven on the day Jesus was born. If you believe Jesus the Christ child was the only begotten son of God and the only reason he was born into this world was to take away your sins, then you are given the ultimate Christmas gift — life eternal.

So, on Christmas Day, we rejoice in the amazing birth of the son of God, and we also rejoice in our salvation, knowing that through his birth and sacrifice, we will join him and God in heaven for all eternity.

Why Jesus Was Born in a Stable

Does anyone know what a manger is? (wait for children to respond.) A manger is like a slanted box with legs. It's where hay is placed for the animals to eat.

Imagine not being born in a hospital but a barn, and your crib is a dirty bin where animals are fed. It's difficult for us to understand why God would allow his only son, whom he loved very much, to be born in a barn with smelly farm animals. But the way Jesus was born is a very important part of the Christmas story. Do you know why? (allow children to answer)

God allowed his only son to be born in a barn because he wanted the world to know his son was a gift to everyone, not just the rich and powerful people of the world. God wanted the average person who worked in fields, who tended sheep, who worked in shops, and who prepared meals to know that Jesus was their savior as much as he was for a king or queen.

Jesus Christ was born for everyone because, in God's eyes, all of us are equals. No one is better than anyone else. And so, God wanted his son to be born in a place that was common to the average person.

That's why our Christmas church plays are about how Jesus was born. We retell the story of how Mary and Joseph traveled to Bethlehem. Mary was about to give birth to Jesus. They needed a nice room with a bed, but all the rooms in the inn were rented. Instead, they had to stay in a stable, a barn for animals.

This is an unusual and humble beginning for the son of God, but it was important that Jesus be born as a common person so he could fulfill God's plan to save the world, to save each of us from sin.

When we sing Christmas hymns, we're singing about our joy and happiness that God loved us so much that he sent Jesus to save our souls and give us eternal life. We're also singing thanks to Jesus for the difficult burden he took upon himself to come into our world and ultimately give up his life for each of us — for each of you.

And there were three wise men who understood this. These kings traveled a very long distance to bring priceless gifts to Jesus because they knew he was the son of God. They wanted to pay their respects to Jesus and thank him for coming into the world to save them. And so, we give each other gifts in that tradition of gratitude.

While these kings were kneeling before Jesus and bestowing him with priceless gifts, shepherds in the fields saw an angel in the night sky singing and announcing the birth of the Christ child. The shepherds hurried to the stable to also pay their respects and give thanks. And, soon, people were coming from all over to see Jesus.

This is the scene we call the nativity. It's a snapshot of Jesus's birth that shepherds, villagers, and kings all kneeled before him and sang songs of thanksgiving. So, let us give thanks as we sing our Christmas hymns and keep Christmas in our hearts every day.

In this speech, George Bailey appeals to pathos and ethos to evoke a sense of charitable responsibility among the wealthy class.  He also utilizes rhetorical devices such as polysyndeton ("they do most of the working and paying and living and dying"), hypophora ("is it too much to have them work and pay and live in a couple of decent rooms and a bath?" followed by an answer to the question), and metaphor ("rabble" and "cattle").  Students can apply these rhetorical tools to their own speeches to evoke a sense of ethical responsibility.   

Writing Prompt:

Identify an ethical issue that is relevant to the holiday season such as poverty, consumer spending, greediness, etc. and write a speech that calls attention to this issue using rhetorical devices such as polysyndeton , hypophora , and metaphor to convey a strong, persuasive message.

Love Actually

In this scene from Love Actually,  Jamie (Colin Firth) proposes to Aurelia (Lucia Moniz) in broken Portuguese, with the entire town looking on.  This iconic holiday proposal definitely tugs on the heartstrings with the layers of Christmas nostalgia and a love story.

"Beautiful Aurelia, I've come here with a view to asking you to marriage me. I know I seems an insane person because I hardly knows you but sometimes things are so transparency, they don't need evidential proof. And I will inhabit here, or you can inhabit with me in England. Of course I don't expecting you to be as foolish as me, and of course I prediction you say 'no', but it's Christmas and I just wanted to... check."

Jamie appeals to the pathos and ethos of love at first sight by using rhetorical devices such as anaphora (repetition of "of course"), climax (tension increases up to the last word "check" in the proposal), procatalepsis (introduces the objection "I know I seems an insane person because I hardly knows you" and then counters it with "but sometimes things are so transparency, they don't need evidential proof").  

Overall, this is a romantic holiday film clip that will inspire students to appeal to the pathos aspect of argumentation. 

Write a speech in which you propose marriage to another person.  Use rhetorical devices such as anaphora , climax, and procatalepsis to convince this person to marry you. 

Scrooged tells the famous Christmas story of a greedy man who didn't believe in Christmas until he was visited by three ghosts who showed him the error of his ways, and he learns to be generous and embrace the Christmas Spirit.  Bill Murray's speech at the end of the film is inspiring.

"I'm not crazy. It's Christmas Eve.  It's the one night of the year when we all act a little nicer, we smile a little easier, we cheer a little more.  For. a couple of hours out of the whole year, we are the people that we always hoped we would be.  It's a miracle.  It's really a sort a of a miracle because it happens every Christmas Eve.  And if you waste that miracle, you're going to burn for it.  I know what I'm talking about.  You have to to do something.  You have to take a chance.  You do have to get involved.  There are people that are having trouble making make their miracle happen.  There are people that don't have enough to eat.  There are people that are cold.  You can go out and say hello to these people.  You can take an old blanket out of the closet and say, "Here."  You can make them a sandwich and say, "Oh by the way, here."  I get it now.   And if you give, then it can happen.  Then the miracle can happen to you.  It's not just the poor and the hungry; it's everybody who has got to have this miracle.  And it can happen tonight for all of you.  If you believe in this spirit thing, the miracle will happen, and then you'll want it to happen again tomorrow.  You won't be one of these bastards who says, "Christmas is once a year, and it's a fraud."  It's not.  It can happen everyday.  You've just got to want that feeling.  And if you like it and you want it, you'll get greedy for it.  You'll want it everyday of your life, and it can happen to you.  I believe in it now.  I believe it's going to happen to me now.  I'm ready for it.  And it's great.  It's a good feeling.  It's really better than I've felt in a long time.  I'm ready.  Have a Merry Christmas everybody." 

In this scene, Murray uses rhetorical devices such as parallel structure and anaphora ("we all act a little nicer, we smile a little easier, we cheer a little more" & "You have to to do something.  You have to take a chance.  You do have to get involved"), and epistrophe + parallelism ("You can take an old blanket out of the closet and say, "Here."  You can make them a sandwich and say, "Oh by the way, here") to convey a message about ethical responsibility to help others.  He appeals to both ethos and pathos in his speech about how it makes a person feel to be generous-- a great message for the holiday season!         

Write a speech in which you try to convince a modern-day "scrooge" to give his money to charity. Use rhetorical devices such as anaphora , parallel structure, and epistrophe to convince this person to be generous.

Christmas Day Preparations

Before Christmas, people begin to get ready for Christmas Day. The first step in Christmas preparations is buying gifts for friends, family, children, and coworkers as well as Christmas decorations and food. New outfits are often bought during Christmas. They typically dress in red or white on Christmas Day. So for Christmas Day, women buy dresses in red or white.

Christmas Day Celebrations

The night before Christmas Day, known as Christmas Eve, is when most people begin their Christmas celebrations. Decorating Christmas trees, lights, and candles is the beginning of the holiday season. Due to the widespread belief that Santa Claus will grant their wishes, people also make a secret request that is placed on the Christmas tree. People exchange gifts with one another and have a special meal on Christmas Day.

Good morning everyone, and a very Merry Christmas to all of you! I am Riya, a student of Auxilium Convent School, and I am honored to be speaking to you today on this special occasion.

Christmas is a time of year that holds a special place in our hearts. It is a time when we come together with our loved ones, exchange gifts, and celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. For me, Christmas is a time of reflection and gratitude, a time to think about the blessings in my life and the people who make my life so rich and full.

As a student of Auxilium Convent School, I have been taught the importance of kindness, compassion, and giving to others. This Christmas, I am reminded of the true meaning of the holiday season and the joy that comes from spreading kindness and love to those around us.

Christmas is a time for family, and for me, that means spending time with my parents, grandparents, and cousins. We often have big family dinners, exchange gifts, and sing carols together. It is a time to create new memories and strengthen our bonds as a family.

But Christmas is also a time to think about those who are less fortunate and to give back to our communities in any way we can. This could be as simple as donating toys or food to a local charity or volunteering at a soup kitchen. By spreading joy and hope to others, we are spreading the spirit of Christmas, and creating a more connected and compassionate world.

At Auxilium Convent School, we are taught to be grateful for the blessings in our lives and to use our privilege to help others. This Christmas, I challenge every one of you to think about how you can use your blessings to make a positive impact on the world around you. Whether it's through volunteering, donating, or simply spreading kindness and love, let's all do our part to make this world a better place.

How We Can Celebrate Christmas Day

Here are some of the ways that we celebrate the holiday season:

Christmas Decorations: Our school is decorated with lights, tinsel, and festive ornaments, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere for the holiday season.

Carol Singing: Our school choir performs Christmas carols and songs, spreading the joy and spirit of the season throughout the school and community.

Nativity Play: Our students participate in a nativity play, retelling the story of the birth of Jesus Christ and bringing the story to life for our school community.

Gift Giving: Our school encourages students to bring gifts for those in need, such as toys for children or food for families in need. We collect these gifts and distribute them to local charities and organizations.

Community Service: Our school organizes community service projects during the holiday season, such as volunteering at a soup kitchen or donating goods to a local food bank. These projects help our students learn the importance of giving back and spreading kindness to others.

Special Assembly: Our school holds a special assembly on Christmas Day, where students share Christmas stories, sing carols, and reflect on the true meaning of the holiday season.

Festive Meals: Our school holds a special Christmas lunch, where students can enjoy a festive meal and spend time with their friends and classmates.

Some of the most important customs of this holiday celebration are gift sharing, distributing gifts by Santa Claus, Christmas cards distribution, Christmas music, singing Christmas songs, lighting candles, church services, having a special meal, special Christmas decorations, Christmas trees, Christmas lights, and so many. Various identical figures such as Santa Claus, Saint Nicholas, Father Christmas, and Christkind, bring gifts to the small children at Christmas night. It is celebrated to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ who was born on 25 th of December. It is a religious and traditional festival of the Christians. In India, it is celebrated by more than 25 million Christians with great enthusiasm and joy. There is a largest Indian Christian community in Mumbai where mostly Roman Catholics are found. In other states of country there are high populations of Christians are found who make this festival a glory of India in the winter season. Christmas arrives hand in hand with winter vacation , A time when joyous melodies and snowflakes alike clutch. With hearts aglow and spirits soaring high, Families embrace the season as laughter fills the sky. It’s a cherished winter vacation, a moment in time, Where love and merriment in harmony chime.

At this festival, a midnight mass is considered as the most important service for Christians especially Catholics during which whole family members go to the mass and enjoy a massive feast of different delicacies. They also involve in the giving and receiving of presents to each other. Few days before of the date, they enjoy decorating churches with Poinsettia flowers and candles especially for the Christmas Eve Midnight Mass service.

People start greeting each other from few days before the festival by saying Happy Christmas, Merry Christmas, Subh krisamas, krismas Mubarak, etc through Christmas cards or gift distribution. Decorating Christmas Trees in the houses or garden is the special custom and tradition of Christmas celebration. People also decorate their homes and Churches with candle and electric bulbs. Christian people in Southern India lit some small oil burning clay lamps on roofs to symbolize that Jesus is the light of whole world. They sing a special song known as carol song and perform other rituals in the church. At some places, there is a traditional to cut fruit Christmas cake to actually celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. Santa comes in the mid night with lots of attractive gifts to distribute among kids.

There is a traditional of keeping fast especially by the Catholics, they do not eat from 1 st to 24 th of December and eat after midnight service. Santa Claus (the Christmas Father) is also called as Christmas Baba (in Hindi), Baba Christmas (in Urdu), Christmas Thaathaa (in Tamil), Christmas Thatha (in Telugu), Natal Bua (in Marathi), and Christmas Papa in (in Kerla).

He is believed as the Son of God and has been the central figure of Christianity for years. Modern scholars agree with the historical existence of Jesus. It is believed that Jesus was a Jewish rabbi who had preached his messages to people orally. He came on the earth to support his people however crucified for the sins of people. His followers believed that he was back to the life after death. Jesus was the Son of God having unique significance and took birth from the Holy Spirit, a virgin woman named Mary. It is considered that He came to earth as savior of his people. He was one of the important prophets of God and Messiah for innocent people.

In order to pay honor and remember the Jesus Christ for his all the great works, people celebrate Christmas day annually with huge preparations and decorations. They start sending Christmas cards and gifts to the loved ones few weeks before the celebration. Any festival in India cannot be complete without its delicacies and Christmas is no exception. I personally like the aroma of fresh fruit cake coming from the houses and find it irresistible! Don’t you? I am sure you too love it!

You could see the festive mood setting in with beautiful Christmas carols playing everywhere. It really makes the ambience pleasant and joyous. The sound of bells, coming from the churches fill up the surroundings and make the festival more vibrant.

Children are the happiest around Christmas. They receive a lot of gifts and surprises from their parents, relatives and not to mention Santa Claus. They believe that Santa comes silently in night and plant gifts for them in the Christmas tree; which is actually done by their parents.

Children are the happiest going out with their family for buying Christmas tree, gifts and sweets. It is the time when they are taken for outings, movies, shops and also get to choose gifts of their choice.

Having said all that on Christmas, there is one more thing I would like to mention here, since I have the opportunity to do so. Donate or volunteer! That’s correct, you heard me right. There are some families or individuals who cannot afford the celebrations and the joy as you do. You can bring some happiness in their life by giving them a gift; believe me that you will never forget the smile that you will bring to the children’s faces.

This holiday is a great time to show your concern and compassion towards other through donation or volunteering. Christmas is a reason to be happy and spread happiness. Brighten your own house as well as the house of others.
