Hard Binding

We guarantee our 4 hour service at all times but the majority of books are printed and bound even faster, most in as little as 2 hours, at no extra cost to you. If you’re worried about an urgent submission, just contact us. There's no appointment needed; just come in to our 2 C Grangegorman Lower store or email over your PDF when you're ready to go.

These prices are for binding only in our standard leatherette covers. If required by your college, we can also bind with a buckram material for 10% extra. Please see below for our printing prices.

Soft Binding

We offer a wide range of soft binds with gold embossed covers. These can be done on their own in about 2 hours (€18.00 each) or with a discount if you're also getting hard bound copies (€14.00 each).

We also do soft binding with clear covers, starting at €5.00. These can be done while you wait.

Soft binding is available on books of up to about 370 pages. If you’re concerned about the size of your book, feel free to contact us about it.

These prices are for binding only . Please see below for our printing prices.

We can also provide the printing of your thesis. We always print on high quality 100gsm white paper. You will need to have your file in PDF format. For assistance with converting your file. You can give your PDF to us on a USB key, or through email.

Please note that any page with colour will be considered a colour print as standard. This includes pages with coloured text, such as headings or URLs. You can reduce your printing price by making sure that all of your text is black before saving your final PDF.

Thesis FAQ's

Thesis printing page count.

Readsdirect.ie use a high quality 100gsm paper semi gloss paper, this means that the maximum number of sheets in each thesis is 270 sheets. This is for a thesis printed on one side or 470 pages if printed on both sides of the page. We suggest you check with the regulations from your college but the above page count would be sufficient for most colleges. Larger page count: If the page count is above the readsdirect.ie maximum we would suggest 2 volumes. If you have any questions contact us at [email protected] to discuss your options and find a resolution.

Hardbinding or softbinding Pricing

How Quick can I get my thesis from ReadsDirect.ie

If correct files and details submitted before 10.00 am on any given day we will aim to have within 24 to 48 hours depending on volume of orders received instore or by online order form. Delivery nationwide will be same criteria on timelines plus allowing for DpD couriers plus the time of year. We will contact you if any delay or we cannot reach your desired timeline. It is imperative that you check and confirm all details before submitting as ReadsDirect.ie cannot be held responsible for any errors or mistakes after collection or receiving the delivery WE ONLY PRINT THE SUPPLIED PDF FILES. ReadsDirect.ie strongly recommend you submit your thesis 48 hours before deadline date to be absolutely sure of receiving it on time this will also create a less stressful environment for yourself, doing so will also create a safe time for fixing any errors that you did not notice pre submitting for print.

Correct way to submit my thesis

You must save the file correctly in PDF format only – not word,excel, powerpoint, jpg or any other file. In submitting your file in PDF it will insure there is no variance from what you see on your screen or print out. If you have a lot of text boxes , images imported, graphs and so on please check that they have saved correctly. We suggest try print on a home printer a few selected pages you would be worried about to verify if all is correct. If done on word on a mac definitely save to pdf and try flatten any graphics on pages.

1. Click FILE then SAVE AS 2. Name your file correctly i.e. JasonJamesBondBourne.pdf 3. Alter the file type to PDF 4. Determine where you wish to save your pdf file i.e in a Folder called thesis or on your desktop called thesis 5. Then press SAVE 6. We suggest you open the saved pdf and check all is ok. 7. Remember if re-saving the file call it a different name or jasonjamesbondbourne.pdf

I’m using the Pages App on iOS:

1. Go to Tools [the spanner icon at the top right] 2. Select ‘Share and Print’ 3. The select ‘Send a Copy’ or ‘Open in Another App’ 4. You will be given both PDF and Word as options!

Tips and rules to follow before finally submitting for print

1. Make sure you proof read the file again and check that any changes you made were saved and that the correct file name is saved. 2. The cost of colour and black and white – try ascertain the amount of colour pages you have and black and white to gauge a final cost for printing – the binding for hardback is already at an incredibly low €25 softbinding from €3. 3. Quotes and urls can be in colour in your final pdf – this will class as a colour page so if you do not need them in colour change to grayscale when saving pdf. 4. Again check all as the final submitted file is non negotiable once printed and paid for.• Minimum margins: • All pages should have a 2.5cm (1”) minimum margin around all sides so we can print the thesis and bind it correctly.• ReadsDirect.ie will only print your thesis single-sided only on high quality 100 gsm white paper.• If you need double sided you must state this clearly or notify print department.

Printed copies of my thesis!

ReadsDirect.ie recommend that a minimum of 2 hardback and 1 soft back copy is produced, but this is entirely your choice. 1 copy for yourself as a souvenir and to show off to everyone ! 1 copy for your lecturer and 1 soft copy for maybe someone else to read and advise.

My thesis hardbind cover layout ?

Normally in gold foil – if silver foil please advise at the time. • Your full title of your work / thesis• State your full name as author • The title of your course /award • The year of submission- check with your college/university for exact requirements here if you are unsure your Course Code doing this will allow any library staff to reference your work at a later date. • The spine of your thesis is in gold foil with the below information • The year of submission- check with your college/university for exact requirements here if you are unsure • Your full title of your work / thesis• Course code • State your full name as author

We suggest you check with your college/university for exact requirements and regulations if you are unsure on what goes on the cover or the spine of your thesis The information printed by us in gold or silver foil on the cover of your thesis will be exactly in accordance with the Preview you see online. ALL INFORMATION WE ARE SUPPLIED WILL BE PRINTED IN GOLD FOIL OR SILVER FOIL AS PER THE PREVIEW YOU SEE ONLINE. The information printed in gold or silver foil by us on the cover and spine of your thesis is specified by you, so we encourage you to read and carefully enter the information your college or university requires in our Order Form.Again the information we print is supplied by you so we re iterate to double check all text on covers and spines and check in with what the college or university regulations are – maybe get advise off a fellow student on your course or if in a whats app group share your info and pictures of finished files .

Single sided print or double sided!

We can print either option for you – check with your college to see what the specific regulations are also allow for this when you are typing up your thesis regularly check the word counts and page counts.Test them by saving in pdf to see page count – so you can either add or subtract to reach min or max page count. Some colleges and courses will want double sided or single sided – so please check first before you start the thesis. If single sided specify this on the order form as its very easy to follow .If you require double sided printing make sure you check the page numbering is correctly positioned like centre so it runs coherently throughout your thesis

Colour printing costs!

To save the best possible money on your thesis remember that colour pages should only be colour where necessary. Again check your file for the colour pages to make sure you are happy with the final page count.We are only 25c per colour page and 0.05 cent per black and white page.As we are the lowest prices for thesis printing you will save money.

Thesis paper quality!

100 gsm semi gloss paper excellent for thesis printing and allowing great colour exposure.The black and white looks excellent on the paper also – do not save the pages in black and white as a gradi-ent or grayscale as this will not come out black when printed. All hyperlinks / URLs / web or e-mail addresses / headers and footers must be converted from colour and greyscale. Wire Binding / Spiral Binding

Wire binding also known as spiral or wiro binding involves punching holes along the side and fastening them together using a metal wire strip. Wire binding is our most popular commercial binding method. Wire binding allows documents to open flat on a desk and allows for a full 360 degree rotation of your sheets. Wire binding or Wiro Binding is stylish and professional.

Thermal Binding / Soft Binding

Thermal binding uses heat and glue to bind your documents. A specialised Fastback glue strip is heated and applied to the spine of your sheets. Please Note: We print on 100gsm copier paper. The maximum number of pages that can be bound in a single book are as follows:

• Wire binding 150 sheets
• Thermal binding 320 sheets.

If you have more than the max pages for your binding type please consider using 2 or more books per project.

Please convert your final thesis/project files to PDF format before emailing them to us to ensure that your formatting is maintained. If we convert your document on our system this may cause the file and fonts to change, we can only accept a PDF formatted file .

• Undergraduate dissertations and final-year projects are held in the libraries in hardcopy and online format.   
• Taught postgraduate dissertations are available to use in the library and online.   
• Research theses ‌are also available in print and online formats.

• From the drop-down search menu choose:   Subject Search.  
• Input your program code e.g. TU856 or your program title e.g. BSc Computer Science.  
• Select the  eDissertations  option to view and open the pdf files (where available)  
• Select  Dissertations  to see the hardcopy listing and library location (where available)
• Sort the list by  Reverse Year  to view the newer titles.
• To access eDissertations off-campus you will need to access library services through your TU Dublin Single Sign-On.  

Hardcopy  dissertations are for Library Use only and may not be borrowed.

Trinity college dublin theses.

Trinity College Dublin research theses can be found using Stella Search and refining your search results by selecting the format 'TCD Thesis' for print theses, or 'TCD E-Thesis', or by limiting results to the Library Collection 'TCD Theses' for both.

For the most up-to-date list of e-theses go directly to the TARA e-thesis collection .

All print theses held by the Library are in storage. Students, staff and visiting readers should use Click and Collect to request them.

Note: Trinity College Dublin theses cannot be borrowed and must be read in the Library.

Taught Masters dissertations awarded post-2004/5 are not held by the Library in print format, but some are available electronically due to authors kindly donating the PDF of their thesis .

Undergraduate dissertations are not held by the Library.

Stays/Embargoes/Restrictions

Occasionally a new thesis or e-thesis will have a "stay" (embargo) on it, meaning it cannot be requested or viewed. This temporary (usually between one and five years) restriction is made by the Graduate Studies Office on behalf of the author. A small number of e-theses are restricted to Trinity logins only, and some authors have chosen to opt out of the retrospective digitisation of their print thesis.

Retrospective Thesis Digitisation Project

The Library has been working to retrospectively digitise the collection of Ph.D. theses.

For the authors who graduated from 2000-2017, e-mail notification of the project was sent to authors via the Alumni mailing list. A notification was posted in the Alumni magazine. The lists of theses to be scanned in each phase were posted on the Library website for several years. Authors were/are asked to get in contact if they object or have any other concerns.

Most of these theses are now available online from TARA . If you are unable to find a specific e-thesis from 2000-2017, please contact Niamh Harte at [email protected] .

Theses from Other Institutions

Many universities are digitising their research output and making it freely available via their institutional repository – check their Library/University website for information.

British and Irish theses, including Trinity College Dublin theses, plus North American and some European theses are indexed in ProQuest Dissertations & Theses: A&I .

If a thesis is not available freely online contact the Library’s Inter-Library Loan Office .

• Read in the institution's library by using an Library Link card or letter of introduction , or
• Request via Inter-Library Loan

British Theses

• Browse  EThOS Electronic Theses Online Service
• Register at the site to search and download items
• UK theses are free to download after requested once and digitised
• For others use Inter-Library Loan to obtain at subsidised cost

European Theses

• Browse DART-Europe for the discovery of European electronic theses (including Trinity College Dublin e-theses)

Public Transport

The Thesis Centre is served by the following buses;

9 , 14 , 15 , 15a , 15b , 16 , 65 , 65b , 68a , 83 , 122 , 140 & 142 .

All of these stop across the road from our shop, stop number 1285 , and take about 5 minutes to get to us from the O'Connell Street area. If you're coming from the south side of Dublin, stop number 1352 is just outside our shop. Harcourt Street Luas stop , on the Green Line, is also just a 4 minute walk from our shop.
